When planning for a party, it is nice to have some easy party dessert recipes that are quick to make and will feed a crowd.
Guests always appreciate a sweet treat, whether baking for a dinner party, bridal shower, baby shower, a wedding, or a birthday party.
As people mingle about, it’s important to offer them an easy grab and go dessert. Think of it as dessert finger foods.
This post may contain affiliate links.
That’s why I concentrated this list on easy party desserts to make that don’t need a plate or a fork to be enjoyed.
Although decorated sugar cookies (or an excellent chocolate chip cookie ) would seem to be an important part of a party dessert table, I wanted to explore more diverse desserts and bring a medley of options to you.
And yes, cake pops are also small and portable, but I don’t find them easy to make, so they’re not on this list.
In this post, we’ll explore an array of bite-size desserts, dessert bars, mini desserts such as tarts and pies, and other handheld party desserts.
These bite-sized desserts are a great option for people who only want a small portion but great flavor.
A homemade chocolate truffle will satisfy any chocolate lovers at your party, while a stuffed strawberry will cater to the more health-conscious guests while still giving them a bite of a delicious dessert.
Most of these easy dessert recipes only require a few ingredients and no baking.
Dessert bars are the perfect potluck dessert recipe. They’re a quick and easy party dessert. Most are baked in one pan then cut, and only require a small napkin to eat, making them truly grab-and-go.
I bring the mochi coconut bars (#13) to a lot of potlucks, they won’t melt in the hot weather and they’re always quite a hit! (And they’re gluten free so more of my friends can enjoy a sweet treat). They’re great for luaus, pool parties or your next diner party.
Try out some of these delicious looking recipes:
Little Tarts and pies are excellent mini desserts and will bring any dinner party to new heights.
Although some are a little more time-intensive, they’re not difficult to make. From no-bake cheesecakes to mini apple pies, you’ll find an easy recipe to embellish your dessert table. And these little masterpieces will make you the talk of the town!
If you need easy desserts for a birthday party, cupcakes are the perfect treat. Take your favorite cake recipe and turn it into two dozen cupcakes with an easy frosting in less than an hour.
Chocolate-covered strawberries are also a great stand-by, and I love those ice cream cones covered with melted chocolate and filled with fresh berries. Fruit cups are one of my favorite things to serve at a party, next time, I’ll make sure to serve them in these.
I hope you enjoyed my list of easy party desserts for a crowd. The best part is that these dessert recipes will work for any time of the year.

Throwing an ice cream party ? Check out these fun ideas for games and activities for kids and teens.

Hide all of the makings of an ice cream sundae (bowls, spoons, toppings, sauces and mix-ins, ice cream scoop) around the party space (except, of course, for the ice cream, which would melt if not kept in the freezer). Give the kids a list of the items you have hidden and send them on a hunt for the makings of their sundae. When they return with their findings, they get to make their own sundaes.

This activity is part game, part homemade recipe, part science experiment—and all fun. Kids pair up, fill plastic bags with ingredients and toss them back and forth to make their very own servings of ice cream.

Challenge their taste buds with this fun game. To play, blindfold participants and feed them samples of different ice cream flavors to see who can correctly identify the most flavors. Use a combination of easy, traditional flavors such as vanilla and chocolate with a few of the more rare selections your local grocery store offers—or make your own, unique flavors of ice cream.

The fun doesn’t have to be limited to ice cream flavors. You can also have kids try a variety of toppings such as sprinkles, cookie dough, syrups and broken up pieces of ice cream cones.

Use a plain wooden block to create the ice-cream-sundae die kids will need to play this game. On each side of the block, write one of the following: Add one topping, add syrup, add a cherry, add whipped cream, and, again, add one topping.

Give each kid a bowl with a scoop of ice cream, and have them sit around a table that has been stocked with toppings. One at a time, they pass the die around, rolling it to see which component they get to add to their sundae first. The die keeps getting passed and rolled until kids complete their sundae.

For this game, you will need several cardboard boxes that have the tops and bottoms removed. Have the kids decorate the boxes to look like ice cream trucks. When the trucks are ready, kids “wear” them by stepping into them and holding them up around their torsos. Have them line up at a starting place and race their trucks to the finish line.

Like the traditional egg on a spoon race, kids must race to carry a cherry, on a sundae spoon, from one spot to another without dropping it. If someone drops the cherry, she must go back and start again.

For this game, give each player an empty bowl, an ice cream scooper, and a pile of cotton balls. Blindfold the participants and set a timer. Kids must use the time to scoop as many cotton balls into their bowls as they can. When time is up, players will remove their blindfolds and count how many cotton balls they managed to get into their bowls.

For some messy—but delicious—fun, have your party guests sit around a table with their hands tied behind their backs. Place a bowl of ice cream in front of each player (with plenty of whipped cream on top) and see who can finish first.

For this game, you will need empty ice cream cones and plenty of sprinkles. Place a large bowl of sprinkles on one side of the play area and a slightly smaller, empty bowl at the other end. Have players line up between the two bowls. Give each player an empty ice cream cone.

The player closest to the large bowl of sprinkles must scoop the cone into the bowl, picking up as many sprinkles as he can (but is only allowed to scoop once). He must then pour the sprinkles from his cone into the cone of the next player in line. That player has to pour them into the next player’s cone. This continues down the line until the last player, who must pour any sprinkles left into the empty bowl. Keep playing like this until the smaller bowl is full.

Place two sets of necessities for ice cream sundaes at one end of the party space. Have kids split into two teams and line up on the other side. Teams will race, relay-style to gather the ingredients, one at a time, and bring them back to their team. When all of the items are collected, the team needs to make a sundae. The first team to build a completed sundae that uses all of the ingredients wins.

In the unlikely event you come home with leftovers, remember a few of these storage hacks. If your dessert includes any dairy products, it’s safest to store any leftovers in the fridge. Mark your containers with the date on a piece of masking tape to help keep track of freshness. For cookie recipes, like our Lemon-Poppy Seed Sugar Cookies for example, store at room temperature in an airtight storage container. Pro tip: To keep your cookies soft and chewy, place a quarter slice of bread (per dozen cookies) inside the container as well. The cookies absorb the moisture from the bread, which keeps them soft longer.
Also, when storing cookies, make sure to separate containers by flavor. You don’t want a Frankenstein creation of lemon-poppy and chocolate chip. If you need to pack all of your cookies into one tin, pack each flavor into individual freezer bags. These freezer bags are thicker and less porous than regular plastic bags, meaning the flavors will be kept separate from the rest.
Bringing a treat to share at a get-together, not hosting? Remember to bring your own serving utensils. Chances are your host won’t have enough spatulas or spoons for everyone. Second, ask beforehand how many people your dish needs to feed. Nothing says party-stopper like running out of dessert too soon. Read your dish’s recipe to see how big a batch you need to feed the group. Bring your dessert in a disposable dish or paper serving plates, which can help make cleanup quick at the end of the night. If you want to bring a metal pan or fancy party container, label it on the bottom with your name and phone number on a piece of masking tape. This will help you get your dish back just in case you forget to grab it before you leave the party.
