Paris, France is improving its overall subway service to reduce notorious subway delays ahead of the 2024 Olympics.

According to AFP on the 27th (local time), the Paris Transport Authority (RATP) plans to reduce cases of subway service interruptions due to passengers suffering from minor health problems and promote quick and efficient baggage inspection.

In Paris, subway services are often interrupted due to passengers suffering from minor health problems such as dizziness. RATP revealed that as of 2018, delays due to an average of 10 incidents occurred in the Paris subway per day, adding that subway delays were sometimes up to 45 minutes.

“We will no longer stop trains even if passengers feel unwell,” Ile-de-France Governor Valery Pecresse said.

“What we need is to get that person off the train so they can get treatment on the platform,” he said, explaining that a new standard emergency response plan had been reviewed.

In addition, unattended baggage is cited as another cause of subway delays. Governor Pecrese said, “About 360 bags are left unattended every year on the RER B route connecting Paris and Charles de Gaulle International Airport,” and added, “Transport authorities will use detection dogs to inspect them more quickly.”

“As Paris prepares for the 2024 Olympics, these policy changes and operational improvements are a committed effort to address long-standing problems within the subway system,” BNN Breaking said. “By introducing a public transportation system, we aim to set a precedent for major cities around the world.” 고스톱
