This show revels in depravity and lunacy. The titular Panty and Stocking are fallen angels who hunt ghosts and jointly personify the id from Freudian psychology. Panty's obsession with sex and Stocking's obsession with sugar show us how revelatory and glorious, as well as how unfulfilling and saddening pure hedonism can be. Garterbelt represents the Super Ego. His constant attempts to get the girls to do their job as ghost hunters and rid the world of evil shows how oppressive, yet necessary the desire to live up to expectations and be serious about life is. The milquetoast male companion to the girls, brief, represents the ego. He shows us how painful it is to both be aware of one's shortcomings and refuse to be defined by them is. If all of that makes this show sound heady and pretentious, all the jokes center on sex and pop culture references, there is an obscure reference to Attack of The Killer Tomatoes hidden in episode 10, and episode one ends with the girls fighting a poop monster. This show is a supreme exercise in gleeful nihilism. However, it is not without its faults. The character design and animation are sub par. Most episodes follow a very predictable monster of the week template. Worst of all, the first season ends on a cliff hanger and season 2 was never made. So we do not get closure. As flawed as this show is, give it a chance anyway. There is nothing else like it on the market.

Don't listen to these idiots who easily get offended buy a little cursing and in-your-face humor. If you enjoy an anime show with great english dubbed voices, awesome action scenes and hilarous satirical jokes that just keep on going then this is the show for you!
