Pandora's Rose is a BDSM group in Columbia Missouri that was founded in 2008. We
are dedicated to the education, development and growth of the BDSM
lifestyle. Some of our members have been in the lifestyle for years and
have attended courses on a varity of BDSM subjects. Others in the group
are just beginning in the lifestyle and starting to understand what BDSM
is.

There are many things that BDSM is not . BDSM is not
violent, abusive, or controlling.

Pandora's Rose is a caring, loving, and respectful group. BDSM is
only performed by consent of all parties involved. We will
never push you to do anything that you are not confortable
with. Everyone's names and information is kept in the strictest of
confidence and will never be shared with anyone.

Many people do decide to explore BDSM in their own ways. Some enjoy
just coming to events to learn about BDSM. That is fine. You do not
have to parpicipate in anything. If you wish to come and learn more
about this wonderful lifestyle, we will welcome you with open
arms. Some like to watch a couple of times then try out the
lifesyle for themselves. That is great also. You are more than
welcome to come and do either one.

Pandora's Rose welcomes everyone regardless of gender, age (21 and
older only), sexual preference, or any disabilities.

You are a very experienced person in this world. Maybe it will be cliché, but I would like to ask what is spanking? Is it an art?
To me, it is an art. Each posterior is my canvas which I fill with colour, lines and other shapes. There is far more to CP and spanking than bending someone over and hitting them. If that is the extent of one’s knowledge, they have so much more to learn.
Jim Rohn’s “We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. You have included this saying “The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons” in your book. Is it really the most important feature of discipline that it is preventive?
No, not necessarily. The discipline Jim Rohn referred to was self-discipline of the mind. This is something that many people need help with and my method of helping is by administering physical CP along with helping people psychologically (I am trained in this). Discipline can be preventative, but it can also be used as an incentive. Not all discipline is punishment; It should be a positive experience leading to on-going improvements in the person’s life.
What distinguishes Corporal Punishment and BDSM? What are the similarities and differences between them?
BDSM is an umbrella term, originating from the USA. It was intended as a quick way of denoting that a person indulges in various kink activities and/or interests.
Whilst CP in the guise of Impact Play makes up part of BDSM, CP in and of itself is very often viewed by participants as being separate from and different to BDSM. I believe the mindsets are the biggest difference.
CP, as we know it in the UK, is based on real-life punishments that existed in our society for hundreds of years. It has been used as a form of discipline for youngsters and adults, both domestic (in a home environment) and in the judiciary (courts, prisons, etc.).
The whole of CP and BDSM are grey areas – they cross over with each other. There are similarities and differences. Some people take from both camps and some stick to one; it helps make the ‘scene’ more diverse and interesting.
In your Art of Corporal Punishment, you actually explain the historical roots of spanking. Is it really such a deep-rooted and institutional thing? What is its validity today? It is generally seen as a game.
I have no doubt that cave dwellers smacked their offspring on occasion! CP is indeed sometimes seen as a game – but only by some people. For many, myself included, it is an inherent need that is hard-wired into our brains. There is far more to CP and Discipline than physical spanking and for many there has to be a reason to receive, hence roleplays. I feel that CP and Discipline today are more necessary than ever. Our society has changed so that there is no longer ‘a price to pay for everything’; people do their best not to take responsibility for their actions and our society seems hellbent on facilitating that, which is resulting in the victim mentality. Everyone needs discipline in order to lead productive lives. If people lack self-discipline, I instil it.
What would you answer if I asked you what is the golden rule of discipline?
In a nutshell – respect and trust. Respect for other people, especially those who receive. It takes an inordinate amount of strength (mentally) to subject oneself to CP/Impact Play. Just because someone receives and/or submits, does not make them inferior in any way – this is a lack of knowledge and understanding on the part of the Disciplinarian/Dominant. At both ends of the cane, respect and trust must be earned – they should never be taken for granted.
I wondered is why when spanked is the person being asked to count and say thank you.
Some people see it as a way of ensuring the recipient is paying attention. Personally, I feel it stops the recipient from getting into subspace as they are having to concentrate on counting rather than getting their head into the right place. The Holy Grail and reason for playing for most people is to give up any responsibility for a while; this cannot happen if they are responsible for counting (and deciding when the next stroke will arrive). It also gives them ultimate control as the next stroke will be delivered only when they have counted it and thanked the administrator, who should be able to tell when the next stroke should be given, again defeating the object of playing.
Hmmm difficult to say, but I expect the hand and the cane, although I tend to use all of my implements a lot!
What are your punishment methods other than spanking?
I have many Machiavellian methods I have picked up over my 40+ years in the lifestyle! It really depends on the person and the situation. I might set them lines to write, or use sanctions and withhold their favourite pastimes, or invoke corner time, or make them do chores they hate… the list is endless!
Where is the corner time punishment in discipline? What exactly does this punishment do?
I use corner time after a physical punishment to give the recipient time to reflect on their transgression and the price they have had to pay; and whether they have learned their lesson. Sometimes, I will use it after a verbal telling-off for the same reason.
What do you think is the philosophy of spanking and other disciplinary sanctions?
This is my personal Punishment Ethos which I think encapsulates it quite nicely…
Punishment, to be truly effective, must leave an indelible imprint on the miscreant producing repentance, remorse and a genuine desire to be better behaved in the future.
You know there are different schools of spanking and BDSM. Do you feel like you belong to a school? What kind of style do you have?
No, I like to think of myself – and every other Disciplinarian – as being unique. We have our own styles, our own ways of doing things. Those who consider everyone as competition are missing out on a network of peers, all helping each other. Again, it comes down to respect. My style is based on traditional, English Disciplinarians in their various roles.
What is your favourite punishment and humiliation?
I don’t believe that all play is punishment – there is far more to it than that. I think my favourite sessions are those that do not require a reason to justify the play (e.g. punishment); where both parties are working together to reach a satisfactory conclusion where both give, both take and both get where they need to be.
What is your favourite spanking tool?
Hand and cane… and everything in between! I don’t have a favourite implement, sorry.
Finally, what would you like to say to the readers?
Firstly, thank you for reading this interview. Secondly, please remember that a day you don’t learn something new is a day you have wasted. Contrary to what some seem to believe (or at least claim), believing yourself to be “naturally dominant” does NOT mean that you “instinctually know everything”. Everyone has to learn and there is far more to learn than you think until you begin to delve beneath the surface. Treat everyone as you would have them treat you. Be honest – with yourself as well as others. Enjoy what you do – if it isn’t fun on some level, you shouldn’t be doing it!
