Before there was Kim Kardashian and Ray-J , or Paris Hilton and some dude named Rick Solomon , there was Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee.
In what has been billed as the “first viral video,” a new trailer for the Hulu biographic miniseries “Pam & Tommy” invites us all to watch the 1990s rock royalty bang it out one last time.
On Thursday, the streaming TV platform dropped the first full-length trailer for the new series, which premieres Feb. 2 next year.
Lily James (“Baby Driver”) and Sebastian Stan (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) star as “Baywatch” bombshell Pamela Anderson and Motley Crue guitarist Tommy Lee, alongside Seth Rogen, Nick Offerman, Taylor Schilling, Andrew Dice Clay, Pepi Sonuga, Spencer Granese and Mozhan Marnò.
The eight-part series was executive produced by Rogen and creative partner Evan Goldberg, while filming was helmed by “I, Tonya” director Craig Gillespie.
For months we’ve followed the transformation of James, 32, into the iconic Playboy centerfold star, now 54 — boobs, platinum blonde and all. And, as the trailer indicates, costume designers did not disappoint, especially when it comes to 39-year-old Stan’s uncanny resemblance to Lee, now 59.
The series follows the brief courtship of Anderson and Lee, then 28 and 33, respectively, when they wed in 1995, just 96 hours after the lovebirds first met. Their ill-fated Cancún beach wedding ceremony was captured on VHS, as well as their wild reception party and, as the legend goes, their honeymoon night.
It was the sex tape heard around the world.
As the story goes, a disgruntled electrician named Rand Gauthier (Rogen) reportedly found himself out of $20,000 worth of completed work ordered by the high-rolling newlyweds on their Malibu mansion during renovation. According to a 2014 Rolling Stone exposé , he and other workers at the home were said to have endured ridiculous demands by the nagging couple.
When the jilted Gauthier returned to the home to gather his tools and go, he found himself at the wrong end of hot-headed Lee’s firearm — which ultimately compelled him to enact revenge.
The tradesmen would sneak into the home and steal a safe that he presumed was filled with Anderson’s jewelry and Lee’s guns — but, as fate would have it, the container would also hold the infamous sex tape.
The rest, as they say, is Hollywood tabloid history.
“Pam & Tommy” will begin streaming Feb. 2 on Hulu.

“Pam & Tommy,” the eight-episode Hulu miniseries about the couple’s infamous 1995 sex tape , premieres Wednesday on Hulu — and it doesn’t take long before s–t gets weird.
They settle into Lee’s ginormous Malibu estate, which is undergoing major renovations. When Lee — a childish, arrogant jerk who struts around in thong underwear — fires carpenter Rand Gauthier (Seth Rogen) and refuses to pay him the thousands he owes him or return his tool box, Gauthier (an ex-porn actor) steals Lee’s safe from his garage. In it, he finds scads of jewelry and guns — but also a private videotape of Anderson and Lee having sex on their boat shortly after their wedding. (Lee honks the boat’s horn with his penis, so there’s that.)
To get back at Lee, Gauthier teams with coked-up porn director Milton Ingley (Nick Offerman) to sell the prepackaged videotape on the nascent “World Wide Web” and recoup his losses. He gets more than he bargained for … and it doesn’t end well for anyone involved as the sex tape gains global notoriety and Jay Leno starts joking about it on “The Tonight Show.” Taylor Schilling plays Gauthier’s estranged wife, Erica (an adult film star); Andrew Dice Clay is quite good as a mobster who partners with Gauthier and Ingley.
You’ll have to watch “Pam & Tommy” to follow the rest of the stranger-than-fiction story, but here are the Top 5 bizarre moments in the tawdry tale.
Yep, you read that right. The show features full-frontal nudity of Stan’s animatronic penis prosthetic. In Episode 2, following Tommy and Pam’s first hookup in a Mexico hotel room, Tommy heads to the bathroom, where, buck naked, he admits that he’s in love and proceeds to have a surreal heart-to-heart with his snide, sarcastic (and, yes, judgmental) member, which talks back to him in a two-minute exchange of dialogue and mentions Locklear, Jenny McCarthy and Denise Richards. It includes these bits and pieces:
Member: “We’ve been down this road before. And it never ends well!”
Tommy: “You saw her. “She’s f–kin’ perfect.”
Tommy: “I don’t have to change who I am as a person.”
Member: “Tommy, Tommy! You sound f–king ridiculous!”
And so on. It has to be seen to be believed.
Pam and Tommy rush into a church and find a priest to marry them on the beach in Mexico (Pam is in Cancun to meet with “Baywatch” distributors). The ceremony goes off without a hitch, but the young marrieds opt for unorthodox wedding attire: Pam wears a skimpy white bikini and a shirtless Tommy sports Bermuda shorts. Then again, they immediately jump into the surf after saying “I do.” At least they saved some bucks on tux-rental fees.
Back in their hotel room, following the talking-penis incident, Tommy hangs a “Please Service” room sign from his member … as an invitation for Pam. As one does.
In the series opener, Gauthier disguises himself as Tommy’s sheepdog when he goes to steal the safe — thinking (correctly) that the guy watching the security cameras will think it’s just the dog walking around the grounds. Gauthier uses a white, mink-stole-type coat that he wears when he vaults over the fence and into Tommy’s yard (with a dolly to wheel the safe — don’t ask). Cut to the surveillance camera … which shows what appears to be Tommy’s pooch loping around. Mission accomplished.
Leno, or a reasonably plastic, cartoonish facsimile thereof (his hair is too gray for 1995), appears throughout “Pam & Tommy.” In one scene, he’s in the all-male writers’ room at NBC in Burbank when a staffer reads his joke about the sex tape as fodder for Leno’s monologue — but Leno passes because “Uncle Jim and Aunt Susie in Duluth” won’t know who Pam and Tommy are. He changes his tune once the tape gains infamy, and he jokes about it in his “Tonight Show” monologue — and again when Pam visits the show to promote her new movie “Barb Wire.” It’s an embarrassing and awkward exchange.
There are also several scenes with actors portraying Playboy founder Hugh Hefner (who looks close to the real deal, but the voice is a bit off) and his archrival, Penthouse publisher Bob Guccione (anyone’s guess), who, after a legal battle, publishes photos in the magazine taken from the sex tape.
