The PPP program, operating since late 2018, is a key component of Uzbekistan’s comprehensive reform process, which was launched under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan in 2017. Through PPPs Uzbekistan is targeting an alternative mechanism for attracting much needed financing and to on-board private sector expertise to deliver improved public services. Consequently, these efforts are being well noted by international community which might be seen in the example of announcing Uzbekistan as the winner in the Partnership Awards 2022

Brief on the Awards:

The Partnerships Awards are the industry’s biggest and most prestigious celebration of excellence in the industry. This year, it is reflecting the outstanding efforts made by organizations and individuals to go above and beyond in response to the particular challenges caused by the pandemic.

The Partnerships Awards matter because they are judged by the toughest critics. Expert judging panels are made up of over 30 industry professionals representing both the public and private sector. The judges are selected based on their expertise, experience and integrity in the PPP market.

It is organized by Partnerships Bulletin, which is part of the Haymarket Media Group. It provides intelligence to leaders in the public and private sectors that form partnerships to design, build, finance, operate and maintain public infrastructure.

Partnership award 2022:

The Partnership Awards 2022 are that took place on Thursday 19 May 2022, at the Hilton on Park Lane, London, where was announced not only the winners of 2021 Awards, but the winners of 2022 Awards as well. The evening brought together senior representatives from all facets of the PPP industry to celebrate the outstanding partnerships and projects made by teams and organizations. It was an opportunity for the sector to really come together to network whilst celebrating the great work that has been taking place over the last couple of years.

The Partnership Awards 2022 was very special for Uzbekistan, as for the first time in the history of Uzbekistan Public-Private Partnership Development Agency (PPPDA) under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan has won the nomination Public Sector Promoter/Procurer of the Year. This is a prime example of the embeddedness of the PPP program at the core of the government’s development strategy.

For information: previously the award was won by Bangladesh in 2018, by Melbourne in 2017 and by Philippines in 2016 and 2014.

Apart from that, in the Best Utilities Project nomination, two projects were listed among finalist: (a) 457 MW Sherabad Solar PPP Project implemented by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) and (b) Operation, maintenance and modernization of the District Heating Network of Tashkent City implemented by Veolia Energy Tashkent.
