The primitive Pentecostal view of the Apostle Paul's Epistle to the Church in Philippi is heavily rooted in scriptural text and has many facets. The view holds that the book of Philippians holds specific Biblical truths and implications that are applicable to modern-day life and Christianity.

Primitive Pentecostals take Philippians as a clear testament to the power of proper thought and attitude. The majority of the book focuses on the attitude of rejoicing and thanksgiving throughout the most trying of circumstances. This can be seen in the famous passage (Phil. 4:4-7) which states, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Primitive Pentecostals urge believers to not just be thankful and rejoice in their present circumstances, but to also actively engage in prayer. The book of Philippians encourages believers to remain in a state of supplication before God while trusting in His will and timing. This is seen in Philippians 1:6 stated, “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” This is a powerful reminder that the Lord ultimately has the final say and will bring our work full circle in His own timing.

In addition, Primitive Pentecostals believe that the book of Philippians serves as a reminder that discipleship must come with a willing attitude. This can be seen in Philippians 3:10 which states, “I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participate in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.” Primitive Pentecostals also take this passage to emphasize the importance of not merely striving for a spiritual path but having an earnestness and desire to commit and grow in that faith.

The primitive Pentecostal view of the book of Philippians is that it serves as a reminder for several key Christian teachings. From the power of attitude, to prayer, to the need to be actively dedicated to discipleship, there are many Biblical truths to be extracted from the book. As such, Primitive Pentecostals strive to integrate these teachings into their own spiritual journey.
