In the first chapter, Peter calls on each and every one of us to work hard in deepen our relationship with God and make our calling and election sure through faith in Jesus Christ. He also explains how by doing this and growing our faith, we are more likely to endure trials and temptations.

Primitive Pentecostalism also puts an emphasis on the power of the Holy Spirit and its ability to empower us. This is another concept which is highlighted throughout the book of 2nd Peter. Particularly in the third chapter, where Peter reminds believers of the power of the Holy Spirit and how great and mighty it is.
