Houston, TX – One of the nation’s most electrifying young basketball talents has made his college decision. PJ Haggerty, the 6'3' combo guard out of Crosby High School (TX), has officially committed to the University of Memphis Tigers under head coach Penny Hardaway, sources confirmed today.

Haggerty, a consensus 4-star recruit and a top-50 prospect in the Class of 2024, chose Memphis over offers from Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma State. Known for his explosive scoring ability, crafty handles, and relentless attacking style, Haggerty has drawn comparisons to NBA guards like Ja Morant and Darius Garland.

Why Memphis?

In an exclusive interview with Sports Insider, Haggerty shared his excitement:
'Memphis feels like home. Coach Penny believes in my game, and I love the way they play—fast, aggressive, and with swagger. I want to come in, compete for a championship, and get better every day.'

Hardaway, known for developing elite guards, sees Haggerty as a potential one-and-done talent who could thrive in his system. 'PJ is a bucket-getter with next-level creativity,' Hardaway said in a statement. 'He fits our culture perfectly.'

A Meteoric Rise

Haggerty’s stock skyrocketed after a dominant junior season, where he averaged 28.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game, leading Crosby to a deep playoff run. His performances on the AAU circuit with Team Harden (Adidas) further solidified his reputation as one of the most dynamic scorers in high school basketball.

NBA scouts are already buzzing about his pro potential, with ESPN’s Jonathan Givony noting: 'Haggerty has the scoring instincts and athleticism to be a future first-round pick. Memphis could be the perfect springboard.'

What’s Next?

With Haggerty’s commitment, Memphis now boasts one of the top backcourts in the country, pairing him with fellow blue-chip recruit Tyran Stokes. The Tigers are expected to be preseason Top 25 contenders.
