Widowmaker is one of the most iconic and important characters in Blizzard's Overwatch, and here's our ranking of her top 10 best skins.
By Caleb Bailey Published May 27, 2019
For the last three years, Overwatch has reigned over the competitive team-based shooter genre. Millions of fans love Overwatch for its finely tuned gameplay and fascinating world. However, Overwatch's rich cast of characters is the main reason the game is so popular. Every year, Blizzard adds at least one more character to the game to keep things fresh.
Widowmaker, formerly known as Amélie Lacroix, is a playable character in the game. This femme fatale is something of a great white shark; she's one of the oldest characters in the game and has changed the least. Widow is all about quickly killing enemies and looking good while doing it. To that end, here are some of Widowmaker's best skins.
Limited time video game promotions are always bittersweet. On one hand, players that are able to participate get exclusive rewards. On the other hand, players who can't get in on the action potentially miss out forever. Widowmaker's 'Noire' skin is only available to players who pre-ordered Overwatch back in 2016.
If you're an avid Overwatch player, chances are you've seen this skin plenty of times. The designs of the 'Noire' skin's costume and gun are great! But we have to dock points from the 'Noire' skin because of its exclusivity. If Blizzard ever lets players purchase this outfit, we'll definitely consider ranking it higher.
This skin is based on Sarah Kerrigan, one of Blizzard's most iconic characters. Sarah hails from the Starcraft series, one of Blizzard's older titles. Overwatch is a team-based first-person shooter. Starcraft, on the flip side, is a real-time strategy game. Overwatch players coordinate with teammates to pull off amazing plays. Starcraft players create meticulous plans and manage resources to win wars. Both games are amazing in their own right. That's why it's awesome that Blizzard released this crossover skin. The downside is that the 'Kerrigan' skin is exclusive; you could only get it by attending Starcraft's 20th Anniversary event in person. So far, players still can't buy the skin.
If the 'winds of winter' ever do come, at least Widowmaker will be ready. The 'Biathlon' skin released during Overwatch's 2018 Winter Wonderland event. Blizzard hosts Winter Wonderland events every year that run from December to January of the following year. Exclusive emotes, character outros and skins become available for a short period of time. Once upon a time, Widomaker's 'Biathlon' could only be obtained during Winter Wonderland 2018. Many players tried to get this awesome skin. Quite a few of them lucked out. Fans who couldn't get their hands on it protested until Blizzard had a change of heart. Though it's expensive, players can now buy the cool 'Biathlon' skin for 3,000 coins.
Talon is a criminal organization in the Overwatch universe. Folks like Reaper and Doomfist lead Talon the same way Kingpin from the Marvel universe runs his businesses. People like Sombra and Moira secretly work as double agents, keeping their agendas to themselves. Widowmaker simply follows orders and executes them to the letter. Her 'Talon' skin reflects her allegiance to the criminal organization. A grey and tan uniform replaces her traditional violet costume. Her trademark Widow's Kiss hybrid sniper rifle bears Talon's logo. Most striking of all, Widowmaker's skin has a normal hue. This skin used to be exclusive, but now players can buy it for 1,000 coins.
Widowmaker's 'Huntress' skin is very popular. Should you play Overwatch anytime soon, chances are you'll see tons of people using this outfit. This sleek ensemble alludes to Widow's heritage; before Talon got their hands on her, Amélie Guillard was a ballet dancer and heiress. The Guillard was very powerful and influential in France. This outfit reflects that and creates a sense of dread. If you look closely, you'll that Widowmaker's teeth look vampiric. Amélie is already a creepy character overall. The 'Huntress' skin amps up her creepiness to the nth degree. Plays can get this skin for a meager 1,000 coins. This skin isn't based on the Huntress from the DC Universe, despite the shared name.
The 'Huntress' skin is tragic because represents Widowmaker's lost heritage. The 'Odette' skin is equally forlorn because it represents the life that Talon stole from her. While working as a ballerina, Amélie met Gérard Lacroix. The two fell in love and got married. Eventually, Amélie learned that Gérard worked for Overwatch. Specifically, Gérard worked to topple Talon. Talon captured Amélie and turned her into Widowmaker. Her first assignment was to kill Gérard in cold blood. Amélie executed her husband without the slightest shred of remorse. Since then, she's served at Talon's beck and call. This skin reminds us of the ballerinas from John Wick 3.
Widowmaker is a female assassin who's lethal and graceful. Her 'Black Lily' skin embodies this idea to the letter. "Black Lily' first became available during Overwatch's 2018 Lunar New Year event. Blizzard runs the Lunar New Year parties annually, just like the Winter Wonderland bashes. The Lunar New Year events honor the Chinese New year with new skins and special game modes. Overwatch first came out in March 2016, well after the 2016 Chinese New Year. Since then, Blizzard works hard to make up for the lost time. Players can purchase the 'Black Lily' skin for a respectable 1,000 coins.
This skin is inspired by Nova, another character from the Starcraft series. Like Kerrigan, Nova is a psychic soldier from Earth called a Ghost. Unlike Sarah, Nova isn't a defector. Starcraft's story is too complex and intricate to talk about now. Suffice it to say that Nova's popularity among Starcraft fans is well earned.
Blizzard created this skin to celebrate Starcraft's 20th Anniversary as well. Just like the 'Kerrigan' skin, Widowmaker's 'Nova' skin was exclusive. Eventually, Blizzard decided to throw players and bone and let them buy the 'Nova' skin. The 'Kerrigan' skin is still off limits, but Overwatch players can get the 'Nova' skin for 1,000 coins.
"Côte d'Azur" roughly means "blue coast" in French. This phrase refers to the French Riviera—a breezy vista known for its tropical weather and beautiful scenery. Widow is originally from France. We imagine she's had her fair share of fun in the sun before Talon took her in. Widow got this skin during Overwatch's 2017 Summer Games event. Usually, the skins released around this time allude to the Summer Olympics. However, Blizzard decided to mix things up in 2017. And what better way to make a stir than to put a cold-blooded killer in a bathing suit? Widowmaker's 'Côte d'Azur' skin reminds us of Marvel's old Swimsuit Special comics.
One of Widowmaker's best skins is her default outfit. This is one of the most iconic costumes ever worn by a femme fatale. Widow wore this suit on when she executed Mondatta—Zenyatta's brother. This is also the costume that Widow typically wears on in promotional material for Overwatch. Want to know the best part about this awesome costume? It's one hundred percent free! Most of the other skins on this list have to be bought. Others are rare, limited-time collectibles. Widowmaker's classic outfit is available right out of the gate. It's no wonder so many fans recreate this outfit for cosplays!

Overwatch
Some of these skins are no longer available.
As one of Overwatch‘s most popular heroes, Widowmaker excels at destroying the opposition from afar.

To compliment her long-ranged abilities, the sniper is also equipped with Venom Mine to block key positions and protect herself from being ambushed. Mobility is no issue for Widowmaker either since she can get to hard-to-reach places with the use of her Grappling Hook.
The hero’s variety isn’t exclusive to her kit, though. She also has a slew of different cosmetics that change her appearance, ranging from a ballerina to professional sports athlete.
Here are some of Widowmaker’s best skins.
Released in 2018 as part of Overwatch’s Lunar New Year Festival, Black Lily Widowmaker boasts a dark black and purple color scheme. The skin takes many of Widowmaker’s familiar aesthetic choices and gives them a new high-end pattern. This is especially noticeable on both Widowmaker’s clothing and her weapon, which gain the addition of an imperial pattern. The hero’s armor has also changed. In this skin she loses the plated legs for some heels and some minimal plating. If you’re after a darker vibe for the hero, Black Lily is one of the best options to choose from.
One of Widowmaker’s legendary skins Huntress sees the hero don debonair clothing. This look is complete with a black and red color scheme with gold accents on the coat. This is one of the hero’s most complete aesthetic changes and the skin includes notable features such as the large blade protruding from her hand. If you’re after a classy and clean look for the hero, Huntress Widowmaker is one of the best choices currently available in the game.
A colorway for the same model as the Huntress skin, Comtesse brings a purple and brown colorway to this clothing style. Outside of the colors, this skin is identical to the Huntress skin in every other way.
One of the hero’s more unique looks, Odile Widowmaker, brings a gothic attire to the assassin. This skin has a bright turquoise and black color scheme, complementing the sniper’s dark and dangerous persona. The outfit for this skin features a corset with a skirt reminiscent of the pastel goth aesthetic. Another notable addition to this skin is the crow’s head on Widowmaker’s headpiece that is unlike most of her other available skins. For its colors, unique clothing, and overall quality, this is one of the more impressive skins for Widowmaker.
Odette is the alternative color choice for Odile, offering a completely white aesthetic with orange highlights to suit.
Awarded to players as a pre-order bonus, Noire is one of the rarest skins in the game. This skin showcases a completely mechanical appearance for the hero, boasting cybernetic enhancements including the headpiece housing the cables that make up her hair. Additionally, the skin has a distinct mechanical look with plated armor and canisters on Widowmaker’s belt. The skin has a familiar red and black coloration. But where the skin shines the most is through its lack of availability and amount of aesthetic changes to the character.
Overwatch boasts a variety of event-themed skins for its heroes that dress them to suit different occasions. In the Biathlon skin, Widowmaker dons cold-weather gear to prepare for the Winter Wonderland event. With ski boots, goggles, and a vibrant pink and black color scheme, this skin is perfect to stand out against other players. Due to its limited availability, this skin has to have a place on the list of best skins for Widowmaker.
On the opposite side of themes comes Widowmaker’s Summer Games look Cote D’Azur. This skin perfectly encapsulates the beach with the hero donning summer clothing including a bikini top and beach skirt. The skin has a simplistic look to it with Widowmaker’s headpiece replaced by a set of sunglasses and a set of sandals. The limited release skin has an iconic summer look for the Widowmaker and is a must-have addition to the list of her best skins.
Blizzard is notorious for finding opportunities to collaborate between their different games. In this skin for Widowmaker the developer has pulled off one of the most simple but impressive collaborations yet.
Much like Widowmaker, Kerrigan began in the StarCraft franchise as a soldier with impressive shooting abilities. While she may not look anything like this in the current StarCraft law, released to celebrate the game’ 20th anniversary, this skin is an excellent throwback to the character Sarah Kerrigan from the original title.
Another StarCraft-inspired skin for Widowmaker, Nova sees the sniper assume the appearance of Nova Terra from the original game. While this skin may look similar to the Kerrigan skin this is just due to the armor’s source material and choice of weaponry. The distinct differences are in the hair, color scheme, and facial features of either skin. Both represent their source material exceptionally well and provide fans of StarCraft a way to utilize their favorite characters in Overwatch.
Titled after the organization in which the hero got her name, Talon Widowmaker is one of the hero’s simpler skins, but it is visually impressive despite the simplicity. Boasting a khaki color scheme and streamlined soldier attire, Talon Widowmaker is one of the most unique skins for the hero and could not be left out of our list of her best cosmetics.
