Sorry for such a newbie question but I'm genuinely curious about accumulating competitive points? I'd really like to try and eventually get a golden weapon for a character but looking around it seems you can only get these things by winning in competitive, and getting one point per match. Is there an easier method or am I missing something?
I also read somewhere about losing on purpose the first few matches then playing really well during the next batch of placements but that seems so unfair, and I still don't know how gaining competitive points would work then.

You get 10 per win in competitive, 3 per draw. You also get a lump sum at the end of the season based on your highest achieved rank. So if you're not in a hurry, just focus on getting the highest rank you can (4k rating gives 3k outright, IIRC).
