New leaks suggests Blizzard and Netflix are making animated shows together
Netflix is working on animated shows based on both the Overwatch and Diablo game franchises, according to President of Activision-Blizzard Nick van Dyke, who has listed the projects in his LinkedIn profile .
According to said profile, Van Dyke is an "Executive producer of Diablo, a TV adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s IP, rendered in anime style [...] currently in pre-production for distribution worldwide through Netflix."
A little further down, the resume also refers to "an animated series based [on] Blizzard's Overwatch franchise." While Netflix isn't explicitly mentioned here, we can take an educated guess that the streaming service is involved, given that it's working on a similar adaptation for Blizzard's Diablo IP.
Both Diablo and Overwatch are set to release major sequels within the next few years with Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 respectively, so it's no wonder that Blizzard is capitalizing on that anticipation with more cross-media world-building via stories told outside of the games themselves.
That said, neither Blizzard nor Netflix have confirmed anything officially, so there's still no guarantee that either of these projects will get off the ground. New shows get greenlit and cancelled all the time, but here's hoping that these two will eventually see the light of day.
In the meantime, we suggest reading up on our hands-on preview with Diablo 4 , which - no surprises - is looking rather mighty.

Anyone who likes the idea of an Overwatch series on Netflix should check out this fanmade "trailer" that gives a solid glimpse at what that series might look like.
With the current trend of video games turning into Netflix television shows, YouTube channel Lion Montages thought it appropriate to create a video that envisions a trailer for an  Overwatch Netflix series. While that may just be wishful thinking, the "trailer" makes a good case for developer Blizzard to consider it.
Just a few glimpses of the video exposes it for what it really is: a montage of those wonderful Overwatch   cinematic trailers that Blizzard creates to promote its game. The creator also throws in  Heroes of the Storm  footage and some in-game voice lines for good measure. But the editing is so superbly done, you'll be convinced it's legit. Personal tastes in music aside, the trailer is a quality creation. Watch it, and you too will agree that an  Overwatch series should- nay,  must happen.
While there currently aren't any actual plans to turn  Overwatch  into a Netflix series, there are other video game franchises that are doing just that. A  Castlevania  series will premiere on Netflix this Friday, July 7. The producer, Adi Shankar, recently took to YouTube to reveal the show's cast , which includes some familiar actors from other nerdy franchises like  Battlestar Galactica and  The Hobbit . The series is heavily inspired by  Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse , but to what extent isn't clear just yet.
Skankar also announced he would be producing an  Assassin's Creed series for Netflix. According to him, it will be an original story and an anime style series. The announcement came through his own Facebook page, where he says Ubisoft approached him with the job. As a passionate fan of the series, it's expected he will take great care with the project and produce something audiences will appreciate.
As for  Overwatch,  players are anxiously awaiting the game's next playable hero. In a recent tease, Blizzard has heavily implied that Doomfist will be that hero, and that he's coming soon . Of course, Blizzard does this with its characters so much that many players dismiss teases altogether, opting to simply wait for a proper announcement instead.
A  Overwatch  Netflix series may just be a dream, but not necessarily a pipedream. Blizzard has shown they know how to tell great stories through impressive, gorgeous cinematics. All the ingredients are there. It's just a matter of the company taking the leap and producing something on a grander scale.
Overwatch  is available now on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
