MMR is based around 2 things. personal skill and if you win/lose.
the system is ALWAYS trying to get you to where you belong. that simple.
if your MMR is too high for an SR. you will gain more and lose less. game is trying to get you to a higher SR where more players of equal MMR is at.
if your MMR is too low for an SR. you will gain less and lose more. game is trying to get you to a LOWER SR where more players of equal MMR is at.
the main problem with players is that they BELIEVE they belong in higher SR. they season high'd at say 3000 SR. but their MMR is only appropriate of someone like 2700 SR. they probably had a few lucky wins or used the bonus SR after placements to reach 3000 SR. point is they do not belong there. so the system drops them down to where they belong. problem is people are not willing to admit they belong in a lower SR tier than they do.
same goes for those that drop too low. if your MMR is that of a 3000 SR player. and you say drop to 2500 SR because of "bad luck". your MMR is still higher than appropriate for 2500. the system knows this and so you will gain more SR per win than loss in hopes of getting you to where you belong. as a player. your skills do not get worse because you lost a game. so your MMR is decreasing at a slower rate compared to SR.
PERFORMANCE in game only accounts for a small % of the SR you gain/lose. because that is ONE game. remember. MMR = skill as a collective whole. ONE game is NOT ENOUGH to shift your MMR to the point of drastic SR/gain loss. you need to CONSISTENTLY play well/poorly to increase your MMR at a dramatic rate. your SR is based on your performance OVERALL. not how well you play in 1 game. which is why ONE win/loss will not boost/tank your SR.
lets say you lost/won 50 SR for one game. that is not because you played EXTREMELY well/poorly. that is because your MMR was already too high/low for it. your performance in that game was maybe only a 5 SR difference.
if you are at 3000 SR. and you are currently losing more SR per loss than wins. then it means your MMR is too low. you need to CONSISTENTLY play at a high enough level that is appropriate for 3000 SR players to maintain a steady 25 per win/loss or gain more SR per win than loss.
BUT. do not forget that because SR moves faster than MMR. if you CLIMB TOO FAST/HIGH without improving your skills/MMR. you will reach a point where your MMR is too low for your SR and the system will try to drop you. THIS right here is the example of people who get boosted. the person boosting you is getting you free wins so your SR increases. and because of wins your MMR is increasing as well just at 1/2 the pace. your PERSONAL SKILL PORTION OF MMR is not increasing. because you are just getting carried hard in games. so essentially what happens with people who get boosted is that they will eventually reach a point in their SR where they start gaining nothing and start losing a lot because their MMR is WAY too low compared to their SR.
YES, I have had this conversation so many times with people.. This is why I made the visual.. some just don't learn from hearing it or reading it. My brother is one of those who will complain about how he just won 4 or so in a row and now that he lost 2 he is back where he started, and I have explained to him that his SR losses are so high compared to his wins because his MMR is lower than his SR, so he's bound to lose more on losses. People need to IMPROVE their game play/ crits / accuracy/ ALL of these and many more (as it uses all your game stats) to improve your MMR and that is the biggest factor in your SR gain/loss.
last week i played 3 games in a row with low top 500(450-up etc) and im a high plat explain?
There is no second number for MMR. The game uses a K-rating performance factor just like they did in wow and sc2.
