A lot of people don’t know what settings in Overwatch affect FPS, and very many don’t know a lot of ways to increase FPS but first off I’ll give general advice.
Overclocking-Overclocking makes your CPU, RAM, and even GPU run better, however it shortens its lifespan and going to far with it will increase your PC’s temperatures so high that you crash the game you’re running (In this case Overwatch). Please proceed with overclocking at your own risk.
High priority-Make it a habit to visit the “Details” section in the Task Manager, and to right click on Overwatch.exe, go to set priority and set it to high. Don’t set it to real time, as I have heard that audio issues will occur in game at this setting.
Debloat Windows-Also do at your own risk. Search up a ‘Debloat Windows’ guide on YouTube and proceed at your own risk, however doing this frees up A LOT of your CPU usage that’s being used on useless Windows programs.
Third-I highly recommend watching Panjno’s video on Optimizing Overwatch for best FPS, because everything except the “Turn reduce buffering off” part is correct. (Please leave reduce buffering on, in almost every way it helps you.)
A link to the video will be here.

Fourth-Texture quality and Texture filtering quality don’t take up much if at all any FPS, so I recommend keeping these both at medium or high settings. Also, Turn off shadows completely as for you’ll probably hear the footsteps of your enemy faster than you would see their shadows anyways. Turn both of the settings that change how REFLECTIONS look to be completely off as for they eat up your FPS, and provide little change to how the game looks. Also, turn refraction quality to low and turn off ambient occlusion as for they eat up a lot of your FPS as well. The rest of the settings besides screenshot quality you should have at the lowest setting possible.
I hope this guide helped you guys optimizing your games.
I’m sure this is useful but I’m not going to lie here. Overwatch runs like a dream. Getting high frames shouldn’t be difficult at all unless you are playing on a Toaster or something lol
While this is true, why would you not want to decrease your input delay and increase your fps as much as possible anyway? (without doing something silly like playing at 50% render if you really don’t have to, unless you’re running above 1080 I guess, just for me it’s one setting I leave at 100% as even 75 I find everything much too difficult to distinguish)
I mean it isn’t like I wouldn’t want that. I just think that since it’s so easy to do this that a video isn’t useful for the majority. I’m sure it helps some though. Plus, you do get diminishing returns after a while depending on your setup. If you have a 60hz monitor you definitely get diminishing returns as you get higher and higher FPS.
it consintently has a high frame rate drop for 30s for me sicne last patch.
Wow really? That sucks. I’ve never heard that before. If that is a wide spread issue after the last patch then maybe it’s more important that I thought.
Don’t forget to utilize your GPU control panel. Optimization is key
You uninstall and play a real fps because Overwatch isn’t truly a full time fps game. It’s partially a hybrid.
You want as many frames as possible in OW because of how the simulation reports to the server. Higher frames = lower input lag.
A person playing at 200FPS on a 60hz monitor will have a smoother experience than one getting 60fps.
Sure but 200 vs 150 isn’t really noticeable on a 60hz
Well yeah, but it’s not about how it looks, it’s about input lag.
If you tab in and out of the game a lot like I do, It has a dramatic effect on your fps that won’t recover after tabbing back into the game. (It will consistently be about 50 frames lower than before)
This is a glitch to do with reduce buffer, to fix the massive fps drop, turn on and off reduce buffer every time your tab in/out of the game.
I know. I’m saying that difference isn’t notable
Don’t forget to utilize your GPU control panel. Optimization is key
Yeah, this guide is meant for people who need that extra FPS because they don’t have a great gaming PC
Can someone help me? i have my computer on low and ive tried everything but i get 7 fps at MAX
Ok first of all, please don’t necro threads.
BUT… are you happen to run OW on a discrete GPU, as in the ones that came with your motherboard?
