Subreddit for all things Overwatch™, the team-based shooter from Blizzard Entertainment.
As someone who played a lot of competitive counter strike, I've noticed that if they increased the tick of the servers to say 64 the quality of life would be much better. I'm still getting a feel for the game but I think a lot of players, especially those hoping to move into competitive Overwatch would vouch for a change to a higher server tick.
Dodging behind walls and dying, using Genji's deflect and dying, recalling as Tracer and dying . . . It gets pretty old.
I play a lot of reinhardt and i cannot tell you how fucking infuriating it is to die behind my shield because the server isn't fucking fast enough to update. Yeah magically widowmaker shot me in the head behind my shield? GG blizz.
This, when being a super fast character against, lets say a sniper, does not work very well with 20tick
You don't know how many times I have dashed as genji only to find myself dead.
Now I understand why I have died behind a Reinhardt shield by widow and shot through a wall by Hanzo. Kill feeds make some deaths absolutely confusing leaving you perplexed, asking, 'how?!'
The worst has got to be dying with a Zarya's shield on you.
An even more simple one is missing shots entirely.
I live in NZ and get 150-200ms average on US servers. This is acceptable on other games but on Overwatch it's horrible. Most of the weapons work in such a way that if I had them targeted when I fired I should hit them but often I don't unless they never move.
My only guess is that my issues are being doubled up because I have a high ping and tick rate issues. Even if the tick rate is only 20 Hz for the player (it's been said it's 60 Hz for servers but 20 Hz for the client) this is still extremely horrible for precision aiming, especially on characters like McCree, Genji, Widowmaker or even Mei.
From my experience "favors the shooter" has been a ton of bullshit. I don't get these same problems on AU servers, but I don't get them on other games with 150+ ping either.
cant agree more, i don't rage when normally playing. however if i die when i dashed through/deflected as genji or recalled/blinked away as tracer yet it shows on killcam that i didnt, its an instant mini tilt for me. especially so when i actually hear that i deflected something or begun the rewind etc.
I had hanzo arrows kill me while flying 1.5 meters beside me and doing nothing going right through me.
For some reason Shadowplay doesnt work with overwatch, i would have so much bullshit recorded.
The Genji Dashing and Deflecting is really fucking annoying. I've lost count how many times I've dashed away and then died and been thrown across the map, yet on their screen I don't do any of it. The sound of me dashing doesn't even play. Same goes with deflect. I got my blade up and ready to deflect and then just drop dead either way. Especially when it comes to the flashbangs by McCree, god the amount of times I've been trying to deflect them and it's gone ignored.
And don't get me wrong, it's not been a case where the McCree throws the flashbang to the side to avoid the deflection. Those are fair game. But by watching the death cam I can see that my deflect never even activated despite being active on my screen.
My connection's not the problem either since I'm running at around 20~40ms so I'm guessing that's not the issue.
The tick-rate is extremely frustrating when it comes to those tiny windows of opportunity. It has to be increased.
Agreed. In one (very long) gaming session of Overwatch yesterday, I counted perhaps at least 5 clear examples of when I either dashed/dodged/recalled (as in, I was either in the animation or completed the animation), just for the Killcam to show that I never moved. If I want to add "dubious deaths behind walls", that number would go up to at least 10+.
It's annoying, but since this isn't competitive, I'm not too fussed, but it would be nice to have higher tick rate servers for casual right now to eliminate these issues just to enjoy the game more. However, I heard that competitive will have 64-tick (no source, I just heard that somewhere), so that will be fine in the future.
That's probably lag compensation, rather than tick rate. Either you or your killer has 50 ms or more of latency, where a higher tick rate wouldn't change anything.
You mean like maybe when a roadhog pulls you through a wall or when you press E to block as genji but you get shot in the face regardless... yep, this shooters advantage is annoying as fuck.
I've been thinking if it's just the low tick rate, but I'm really not sure. I get a lot of those 'behind' the wall deaths as well, but one thing you must not forget that the kill cam shows your character's rag doll basically move after the death.
That means it can give a really bad impression of where/how you died. You basically see your character move even after death a bit.
We definitely need 64tick rate, but one has to be careful when looking at his deaths. Perhaps someone should make a video compilation of these deaths and showcase the issues.
