Given the astronomical success of Overwatch this past year, it’s only fitting that the latest new map added to the game takes our heroes (and villains) up into space to do battle on the Moon. Announced and added to the public testing PTR servers on PC a few weeks ago, the Horizon Lunar Colony map is now available for all players on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
However, there’s plenty of other tweaks, additions and changes in the game, as detailed by Blizzard’s patch notes . For one thing, the Oni Genji and Officer D.Va skins that were part of a Heroes of the Storm cross-promotion are now part of the regular loot box system, while McCree, Reaper and Roadhog have been tweaked and balanced. The ‘Rate this match’ option has been vanished, as Blizzard found people weren’t actually using it properly, and there’s a general round of bug fixes.

New Assault Map: Horizon Lunar Colony
Built as a first step towards humanity’s renewed exploration of space, the Horizon Lunar Colony’s goal was to examine the effects of prolonged extraterrestrial habitation—on human and ape alike. The scientists’ research proved incredibly promising…until, suddenly, all contact and communications with the base were lost.
Developer Comments: McCree’s ultimate can deal a lot of damage if it has a lot of time to build up, but it was often too difficult to get even a small amount of damage out before being stopped or killed. These changes make it more flexible and powerful.
Developer Comments: Reaper’s old healing passive was useful if you could kill a bunch of enemies in a row. But since enemies needed to be dead for it to work, it wasn’t very helpful unless the situation was already in your favor. His new passive lets him get immediate benefit from it, especially when fighting Tank heroes, which tend to be larger targets that deal lower damage.
Developer Comments: Roadhog’s head was abnormally large compared to similarly-sized characters, so we’re reducing its size to increase his survivability. The Scrap Gun changes reduce the power of his hook combo and alternate fire burst damage potential while still keeping his DPS roughly the same.
Developer Comments: The new “Hero Damage Done” statistic is the same as the old “Damage Done” statistic, but it doesn’t include damage done to barriers, only damage against heroes and placed objects (e.g. Torbjörn’s turret). That number can be found in the new “Barrier Damage Done” or “All Damage Done” statistics. However, since “Hero Damage Done” and “Barrier Damage Done” are brand new, their averages will only be based on time played since they were added.
Also, the old statistics were calculated by taking total damage inflicted and dividing it by the number of games played. This resulted in an average that didn’t accurately reflect the underlying performance, because it didn’t take into account the length of the games. The new averages are calculated in 10-minute slices.
Oh my god I love those fancy expandable things!
Regarding the update, that’s all good, except don’t make Roadhog harder to kill by reducing his head hit box, I can’t stand the fat git!
Thanks. We’ve had them a little while, just keep forgetting to break them out!

Overwatch’s 1.12 patch has arrived, and it has brought several different changes to the game, including one particularly unannounced change that delivers a killing blow to colour-based aiming hacks.
Aimbot is a dirty word in competitive gaming, but every game seems to have had its own struggles with cheat software, and Overwatch’s aimbots often work by targeting a very specific shade of the colour red that is used to outline enemies on screen. Blizzard, deciding the simplest solution is probably the best one, have subtly changed the red outline shade in a way that should be invisible to us mere mortals, but will defeat the robotic aiming overlords.
This is important, because ensuring a completely cheat-free environment is absolutely key to making sure high-level players have a safe public environment to play in. Considering entry to Overwatch’s grassroots amateur league is earnt on the back of a master rank in Overwatch’s ranked play section, it’s worthwhile protection.
Blizzard haven’t released an official statement, however a Reddit post citing the Korean Overwatch forums has shed some light on the process:
Image recognition based aimbots, prevalent in Korea, work by targeting specific RGB value used for enemy outlines. Basically starting from this patch, the outlines on enemies slightly change in color (unnoticeable to human eyes) so that the image recognition engine on aimbots would be either completely useless or have high failure rate (if they try to target the range, rather than a specific RGB value). They are already known to function incorrectly on maps like Gibraltar with red backgrounds so this should deal a critical blow to these hacks.
