Outdoor Axe
Gränsfors Bruk’s axes are divided into four different categories, based on their specific areas of use. The four categories are: Forest Axes, Splitting Axes, Log-building and Carpentry Tools and Double Bit Axes. In addition to the axes, there is also a selection of other axe related products.
For more than twenty years, courses have been organized at Gränsfors Bruk. This year the courses take place in collaboration between Gränsfors Bruks AB and Gårdar i Nordanstig AB, which also runs Sagaliden – A small place, outside Bergsjö. The courses given at Gränsfors Bruk are forging courses, logbuilding courses and courses in timber framing.
In this section we have gathered information about axes in general. Read about the history of the axe, about different models, about the materials Gränsfors Bruk use to manufacture the axes, about how you take care of your axe, and about how you use your axe. You can also move on to our FAQ to learn even more about axes.
For more than 100 years, Gränsfors Bruk has built up a business around the production of hand forged axes and axe knowledge, with a focus on quality and environmental responsibility. Here you can read more about our company, our responsibility and our history. You can also view some films, find our dealers or read about our sister companies.
In the coming weeks, we will have slightly longer delivery times because we have less staff during the summer.
Opening hours for our factory shop and the opportunity to book guided tours can be found here
Our course activities are active according to the plan for 2022. For questions regarding courses, please email us at courses@gransfors.com.

The Gränsfors Outdoor Axe was developed with the help of survival expert Lars Fält, and is ideal for those who want to use an axe in different ways when out and about in the countryside. Although it is light, it can be used to fell a tree, thanks to its relatively long handle and heavy, elongated head. The axe is also excellent for limbing a tree. The handle has a protective steel collar near the head so that the axe can be used for light wood splitting tasks. It can also be used as a large knife.
The axe is delivered with a sheath.
Lars Fält, who worked with Gränsfors Bruk to design the Gränsfors Outdoor Axe, established the Swedish Armed Forces Survival School and has trained the Swedish Army Ranger Battalion for 35 years at the Ranger School and Parachute Ranger School. He has also written 10 books on survival and outdoor pursuits.

The Outdoor Axe is the lightest offered by Gransfors Bruk. It was designed in conjunction with living survival legend Lars Fält . Designed for portability and excelling at a variety of tasks, the Outdoor Axe is a lightweight survival tool heavy on performance.
The versatility of the Outdoor Axe cannot be overstated as it excels in a myriad of roles such as heavy knife, pack axe, bushcrafter’s axe, kitchen axe, kindling maker, camp axe, and small log splitter. Even though it weighs in at around 1 pound, it can still fell small trees.
The shape of the sheath, which covers the edge and the top part of the poll, also stops the axe head cutting into a backpack or rucksack.
The Outdoor Axe also features a steel collar guard, normally only found on Gransfor’s splitting axes, to protect against overstrikes.
Each of these outdoor axes is stamped EB, meaning it was hand forged by Erik Blixt.
The smiths at Gränsfors Bruk AB forge what many consider to be the finest production axes available–the kind of heirloom quality tool that is both a workhorse and can be cherished and passed on for generations.
