NEW YORK – A 16-year-old girl was killed, and two other teens were injured, in a shooting Friday afternoon heading home from school in the Bronx, the NYPD said.
Authorities said the shooting took place just before 1:45 p.m. at the corner of 156th Street and St. Ann’s Avenue, around the corner from a local public high school.
NYPD Assistant Chief Chris McCormack said the alleged shooter was seen gesturing at someone from the southeast corner of the street. According to McCormack, that man then pulled out a firearm and discharged it, and the three teens were hit.
Police said a 16-year-old girl who was shot in the chest later died of her injuries at NYC Health+Hospitals/Lincoln.
A 17-year-old boy was shot in the buttocks and another 16-year-old girl was shot in the chin, according to police. Authorities said they were also transported to NYC Health+Hospitals/Lincoln and are expected to survive their injuries at this time.
“NYPD detectives will work tirelessly to bring those responsible for this to justice,” said Police Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell.
McCormack said they will not be releasing names of any of the victims until their families are notified.
According to the mayor’s office, Mayor Eric Adams has been briefed on the shooting.
The shooting comes eight days after a 12-year-old boy was shot and killed inside a parked car in Brooklyn.
Police confirmed there is surveillance video of the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
The NYPD is asking anyone with information on the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
"No one deserves to be the victim of such senseless, hateful violence," the city's police commissioner, Keechant Sewell, said Monday evening.
A Minnesota man who allegedly broke into an occupied Wisconsin home last week and locked himself in a bathroom never had a chance to come clean.
Investigators say the deceased are the suspect's aunt and uncle.
Peltola, who is Yup’ik, will become the first Alaska Native to serve in the House and the first woman to hold the seat.
The 40-year-old Williams has hinted this will be the last tournament of her illustrious career.
According to the NYPD, 19-year-old Tamani Crum was among multiple people who interfered during the arrest of 22-year-old Elvin James.
The money has shored up a variety of projects.
