OrangeFox Recovery ZIP Installation (Experimental)

This installation method is experimental and is primarily intended for testing compatibility with custom ROMs. It has not been verified on every ROM, and compatibility cannot be guaranteed.

Before You Begin

Back up all important data.

Back up your current vendor_boot image before flashing. This allows you to restore your device if something goes wrong.

This installer may not work on all custom ROMs. Support depends on the ROM's implementation of vendor_boot-as-recovery and fastboot.

Installation

Reboot your device into Fastboot/Fastbootd (follow your ROM's requirements).

Extract the OrangeFox ZIP on your computer.

Run:

Linux/macOS: flash-ramdisk.sh

Windows: flash-ramdisk.bat

Wait for the script to complete.

The device will reboot directly into OrangeFox Recovery.

Important Notes

This installer replaces only the recovery ramdisk and is designed to preserve the ROM's existing vendor_boot.

This is intended to improve compatibility with custom ROMs compared to flashing a complete vendor_boot.img.

Not all ROMs support this installation method. If the installation fails or recovery does not boot, restore your backed-up vendor_boot.

Reporting Results

If you test this installer, please include the following information when reporting results:

Device model

ROM name and version

Android version

Whether OrangeFox booted successfully

Whether Android booted successfully afterward

Whether data decryption worked

Any recovery or fastboot logs (if available)
