Not all sex scenes have to be sexy.
Like its premium television cousins on HBO and Showtime, Netflix 's "Orange Is The New Black" enjoys a lot of freedom in how it can depict its characters' relationships progressing between the sheets. But, as Slate argues in the video above, what really makes "OITNB" provocative is the unshrinking honesty with which it scripts the Litchfield inmates' sex scenes.
"While other shows that focus on relationships between women show them ecstatically engaging in mysteriously mind-blowing sex, or making out in a way that seems designed to titillate male viewers, here the sex and affection between women is complicated, messy and wonderfully believable," the video's narrator explains.
Watch the video to get the full breakdown. But be forewarned: There as many Season 2 spoilers as there are unapologetically naked bodies. Proceed at your own risk.

"The pieces are going to be illuminated by themselves; some are lamps that cast fantastic shadows on the walls," Daisy Brady, gallery manager and exhibition preparatory, said of the works on display at Arts HQ Gallery.

Warning: This post contains spoilers.

There are plenty of compelling reasons to watch Weeds creator Jenji Kohan's new show Orange Is the New Black , the latest Netflix original series. But some of the comedy-drama's most interesting scenes are also its steamiest. Not to mention the show's cast is super-sexy and includes Laura Prepon, a.k.a hot Donna from That 70s Show , playing a tall, dark, and drop-dead gorgeous lesbian-slash-convicted drug dealer named Alex. If that doesn't make you want to drop the prison show into your queue right away, then you're just not living life to its full potential.

Since the show's binge-watchers already are awaiting eagerly the release of season two (which will be out in 2014) and others haven't gotten into it yet, here are the five best sex scenes from the first season of Orange Is the New Black to entice and/or recap.

Piper stripteases for Alex and leaves her wanting more.

Piper gives a seductive performance for her drug-runner girlfriend, Alex. This little act is too much for Alex to bear and so she convinces Piper to come with her on a "business" trip to Bali that lands her in prison 10 years later.

As Piper finishes her terrifying first shower in prison, she glances over at two women who seemingly could care less about when and where they have sex. Nicky Nichols, played by Natasha Lyonne, notices Piper staring at them, looks out over Morello's thigh, and gives Piper a devilish little smile.

Alex and Piper share a quickie in one of the supply closets in the prison. Because where else are you going to get down and dirty in prison? Piper gets hot, bothered, and hyper-communicative. Alex replies with possibly the sexiest line ever and says to Piper, "Shhh. Show, don't tell."

It's Thanksgiving at Litchfield's Correctional Facility for women, but Piper has to spend it in solitary confinement for dancing inappropriately with Alex. Although it was just a little bump and grind to get into the holiday spirit, it was just enough to get Piper sent to the SHU (Special Housing Unit). Upon her release, she's had enough BS for one day, finds Alex in her bunk, and pulls her to the chapel so they can finally let off some steam together.

This scene occurs approximately 20 seconds into the very first episode. Although short, it's a favorite because, well, you've got two hot girls in a shower, and it happens in the first 20 seconds.

After doing some graphic sex scenes in season 1, "Orange Is The New Black" star Yael Stone got to cover up a lot more in the latest batch of episodes. That was fine with her -- she describes her work this season as "less flesh, maybe more connection" -- but she's always ready for more.
"The sex scenes are also a privilege, and we have to see it that way. If it's written by great people -- these people that write the show are really smart, we can trust them -- I do feel like those scenes are really necessary," she said. "It's a big part of [prison] life. It's a big part of our lives as human beings."
Stone, who plays inmate Lorna Morello in the series, told host Ricky Camilleri that she appreciates the way "Orange" depicts sex with realism rather than fantasy.
"[It's great] to be able to go into those private moments and try and be authentic with that, rather than some arched back, like wild orgasms. What are the awkward moments? What are the moments when you're like, 'You know what, I kind of don't want to do this anymore'? That's what I'm interested in," Stone said. "We are very much people; we are very much women -- real women."
As she chatted about sex scenes, Stone also made a big confession: "I've never said this, but I did my first sex scene before I'd actually had sex in real life."
That scene came in the 2001 miniseries "The Farm." Stone said playing the scene, which involved an older man, required a "leap of imaginative faith."
"A lot of times we create roles and there are experiences we haven't had but we have to imagine it. I happened to do that as a young 15-year-old person," she said.
Watch the full HuffPost Live conversation with "Orange Is The New Black" stars Yael Stone and Selenis Leyva below.
