Orange Is The New Black Guard
Now Reading How To Keep Track Of OITNB Guards
No, it's not just you. There are simply too many guards on season 6 of Orange is the New Black . As a byproduct of the show's new setting in maximum security prison, Orange is the New Black now features double the authority figures. There are old, familiar COs from "camp" (aka the now defunct minimum security prison), and the more lethal set of guards that has been at max.
This season, the guards' storyline is particularly important. Their travails and concerns are so sharply contrasted to the inmates'. In max, the prisoners are literally fighting for their lives. Between gang wars and the potential for drug addiction, prison's obviously not a game. But the guards make it one with their elaborate game of Fantasy Inmate, which assigns each of the prisoners' struggles a certain amount of points. For example, guards can win big if their inmates take their own lives.
The guards this season run from apathetic to terrible. We'll help you keep track of who's who.

The title sequence features close-ups of the faces of real former inmates, including a brief shot of Piper Kerman , whose book was the basis for the TV series. Kerman has blue eyes and is the one who blinks.
The timeline of the show often changes; the first season indicates being set in 2010 (upon entering prison, Piper begs Larry to not watch the latest Mad Men (2007) without her, and Larry is shown the latest episode from season 4, which originally aired in 2010). However, season 5 references the San Bernarndino shootings, which occurred in 2015. This cannot be possible as Piper's prison sentence was for 15 months and only about a year has passed in those five seasons.
It's like the first few seasons of Weeds
It brings back memories of Weeds. You know in its glory days. The first few seasons before it went off the rails. That's what "Orange Is the New Black" is like. Equal parts funny and sad. A mix of true pathos and yet true honesty and beauty coming from the strangest places. Be warned however there is plenty of lesbian sex and if the "F" word makes your ears bleed it is probably a good idea to turn back now...This isn't OZ but this also isn't Disney. This is a true winner from Netflix and tells an interesting story not only from the main character's perspective but from the other inmates as well. It would have been boring to see things from just her point of view. Like Nancy Botwin on Weeds, sometime Piper Chapman is portrayed in not so good a light because she can be the villain in someone else's story.
