Orange Crush, originally started in the 1980s as a small gathering for students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), has evolved into a massive spring break-style event. Police Chief Robert Bryson reported multiple arrests for underage drinking, public intoxication, and disorderly conduct but noted that overall incidents were lower than in previous years.

'We had a strong presence to ensure everyone’s safety,' Chief Bryson said. 'While most attendees were here to have fun, we had to address a few situations to prevent escalation.'

Emergency medical teams were also on standby, responding to minor injuries and heat-related incidents as temperatures soared into the mid-80s.

Mixed Reactions from Locals

While the event brings significant revenue to local businesses, some residents expressed frustration over traffic congestion, litter, and noise. The Tybee Island City Council has debated for years how to manage the unsanctioned event, balancing economic benefits with community concerns.

'It’s great for business, but the cleanup and strain on resources are exhausting,' said Sarah Mitchell, a longtime resident and shop owner. 'I just hope everyone stays safe and respects our island.'
