Operation Valkyrie July 20, 1944
Today is July 20th, the anniversary of the July 20, 1944 failed attempt to k*** Hitler by a group of military conspirators centered on General Friedrich Olbricht, Major General Henning von Tresckow, and Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (as represented by Tom Cruise in the movie Valkyrie).
As of July 15th 1944, Germany had a war on several fronts and the situation was becoming more desperate by the minute.
The plot involved an elaborate scheme to use an explosive briefcase to explode by Hitler—a scheme that was foiled by the size of a table and the bomb’s proximity to the dictator. Thus of the 24 present, only 4 were killed.
What happened after:
•Hitler survived with minor injuries
•The military coup failed within 5 hours
•7,000 arrested; 4,980 executed, including 200 conspirators
•Traditional military salute fully replaced by Nazi salute (the cult was strengthened)

One has to wonder if there are those in Ukraine who realize that continuing the NATO-orchestrated war against Russia that is literally wiping Ukraine off the map are even looking at history.
What about Europe? Are they aware of where this is going?
Let’s be clear, I don’t think either Russia nor anyone else wants the Ukraine situation to spiral out of control. That would not ensure peace or pacify the region.
It would be better that Zelenskyy fly to Moscow and secure a (surrender) resolution that prevents the annihilation of Ukraine and allows for a restoration of relations, economic activity and even charts a reconstruction that can provide a future for Russia that they are happy with.
It’s also the case that in Germany, even if Hitler had been removed from power, it did not mean that the Nazi menace would be eliminated.
Many of the 1944 German conspirators in Operation Valkyrie either were involved in the atrocities on the Eastern Front, or turned a blind eye as long as Germany appeared to be successful. Only after Stalingrad did the conspirators decide that they had to stop Hitler, but they never intended to return territory and fully intended to continue fighting the Soviet Union.
The Wehrmacht conspiracy was not “Good Germans” going against the Nazis.
They were all very much the baddies and unconditional surrender would STILL have been the only option.
Nonetheless, it is important to reflect on these histories as we witness the internal turmoil in Ukraine and the continued success of the Russian forces on the battlefield against the 50+ nation-supported puppet regime of Ukraine.
