Online grocery platform BigBasket enters offline retail with Fresh store


BigBasket, an online e-commerce platform, announced Wednesday that it will be opening its first Bengaluru store. The company's new store "Fresho" was opened at Basaveshwar Nagar, Bengaluru.

It is technology-driven and self-service. According to the company, this is the beginning of a big retail plan that will see 200 physical outlets across India opened by 2023 and 800 in 2026. It stated in a statement that the Stores would offer high-quality products at very competitive prices. The company stated that customers will be able place orders online and pick them up at Fresho Stores whenever they are convenient.

"The 'Fresho" stores will revolutionize grocery shopping by making it as easy as possible to buy groceries, fruits, and vegetables online. According to Hari Menon (Co-Founder and CEO of BigBasket), the stores will allow access to the next 500 millions customers who haven't yet purchased groceries online.

Consumers expect sellers to offer services at all touchpoints. Omnichannel retail models, which are multi-channel sales approaches to ensure seamless customer experiences, have become a necessity for brands in order to capture a large market share. Some of the first offline stores were opened by brands like Plum, a beauty and personal care brand, itel, an insurance broker, and Pee Safe, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer.

The company will compete with Spencer's, Spar and Reliance Fresh by launching its new website.
