Online Special Education
Intensive education can provide positive benefits to students with autism and other disabilities, and it’s time to bring this kind of education to all students in our state,” said Assembly Education Committee Chair Anthony M. Ono. “The most promising interventions are online and tailored to the student’s needs, but our education system has been slow to evolve with those needs in mind.”
Making Online Special Education resources available to students in the online setting will provide them with a more robust environment for education and would enable teachers to improve students’ academic performance. Special education specialists and teachers will work with students to identify relevant resources, and online learning can be more effective for all students than traditional classroom learning.
Students are better able to learn on their own when they are able to adjust to the learning environment and hone their skills in a way that fits their needs.
This is one of several recommendations lawmakers made today in a report that explored providing special education students with the tools they need to successfully educate themselves. The legislature first gave parents and special education teachers the ability to enroll special education students in online courses in 2021.
