What is an online madrasa?

An online madrasa or Islamic school provides your child with a complete Islamic education at home. They study from textbooks, attend virtual classes, and participate in one-on-one discussions with teachers online.

The office for students, the British higher education regulator, has described a new proposal to ensure students achieved "acceptable results" from their studies.

You should be more independent ... many people will not understand that and maybe it won't be too late and they will think oh, I really have to do my own work too. It is not the responsibility of university staff and more like individual decisions that you must make yourself in terms of your relationship with your learning.

Independent learning is intended to prepare us for after the Union, where we really work alone ... but the point is you should understand the content itself and be able to do it.

Of course, not all good learning comes from students. Our project shows that interesting and motivating teaching, and interaction with staff are all seen as an important part of quality teaching.

Ready for university

At the University of Portsmouth, we were involved in steps to improve student experience. As part of this, we drive the initiative to help students understand how ready they are to study at the higher education level.

Students fill out the questionnaire to help them identify where they might want to focus their attention and seek support from student services, in discussions with their personal tutors. This includes academic skills, cognitive strategies, and transition skills.

In an ideal world, activities like this must occur in schools or colleges before young people go to university. They will then have a good understanding of what is expected from the university - what skills and competencies they already have, and how their university can support them to get more and improve what they already have.
