Online Library Services

If you are interested in gaining access to an online library then there are quite a few different options to choose from. One such option is the University of Cambridge Internet library. This is the first Internet library to be set up at the famous University of Cambridge, UK. Other UK universities are working on similar projects, and some of these libraries could become virtual locations as soon as released. You will find a list of these libraries on the University of Cambridge website.

Most online libraries will require you to give evidence of online registration with the University of Cambridge before you are able to use their services. Present your Student Identity Card, or virtual ISIC card to the online librarian. The Online Library will also provide you with a letter of introduction, which verifies that you are an eligible student. It will also give you the opportunity to register for the electronic journals of the library, and subscribe to their RSS feeds.

The best thing about these libraries is that they are constantly adding new materials. They have recently added e-books to their offering. The ability to purchase textbooks online has been available for some time, but it was not until recently that online textbooks were made available to all students. Now all students are able to take advantage of this convenient feature. Some libraries also offer scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students who need additional financial help. This is a great advantage to those who are just starting out their studies.

A second option is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). These libraries also offer subscriptions to their RSS feeds. MIT provides three different subscriptions: a single-use academic year subscription that covers most semesters, a multiple-use summer session subscription that covers all summer sessions, and an annual premium subscription that allows unlimited downloads of selected materials. All the subscriptions offer unlimited access to over 400 electronic journals.

The University of Michigan online library is perhaps one of the largest online libraries in the US. Their mission is to "provide a rich, wide, and accessible online library, hosting tens of thousands of digital and print resources." They have developed an extensive collection of periodicals, scholarly articles, dissertations, patents, and other printed resources covering a full range of fields. They also offer a student library that offers scholarship and grant information.

Two other large online libraries, both located in Maryland, offer a membership to their online community. The University of Maryland library has a special department devoted to assisting students with finding a course that is appropriate for their major, the College Park campus library boasts its "million books" collection. These collections allow members to categorize the books according to subject, topic or author. Furthermore, libraries offer advice and literature recommendations for students who are selecting their first courses. In addition, these sites also include blogs, message boards and forums for students and faculty.

At the University of California at Santa Barbara, the main campus library offers a large collection of materials for anyone interested in the field of science, mathematics or engineering. In contrast to some smaller online libraries, the Santa Barbara libraries make every effort to provide comprehensive online information, with a focus on issues of particular interest to the community. For example, the Santa Barbara campus library has an online newsroom where articles about Santa Barbara are posted. This facility, along with a large collection of magazines on science, technology, engineering, and math, is used by many people across the Santa Barbara community. In addition, the Santa Barbara campus library offers a reading room and an online computer laboratory.

Most online libraries are free to use and they provide unlimited access to electronic databases. However, users may be restricted to a specified number of searches per month or to a certain number of pages downloaded from the library. Some require users to register while others are strictly free. To ensure quality and safety of information available through an online library, users are recommended to perform an extensive research before selecting a specific online library.
