One of the traditional mourning

One of the traditional mourning ceremonies for Hossein bin Ali and other Shia imams, who beat the head and chest with a special song, accompanied by lamentation, sometimes they also bare their chest and beat it. The principle of this tradition has been especially popular among Arabs. Later, it became a creature that moves its hands on its chest by choosing heavy laments. A person who mourns by touching his chest is called (chest woman). This type of lamentation was initially individual, but over time, it has become a group form of mourning. During the Qajar era, especially during the time of Naser al-Din Shah, a procession was held with great etiquette and ceremonies.

The day groups marched with fiddles and new music, science, flags, and kettles, and the night groups marched with layers of bee lights, hijaleh, and torches, and in the intervals of the groups, breast-beaters beat their chests with a rhythmic song. Lamenting and breast-beating were common among women even in the palaces of Qajar kings
