Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary
Mulliner, Bentley's custom coachbuilding unit, has created a unique keycase to mark the 100th anniversary of Bentley. It is made of Dark Stained Burr Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it includes a fluttering 'B' paperweight, a set keys and a brochure that features never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre images.
It is the perfect gift to welcome a new owner into their luxurious vehicle.
Aesthetics
Bentley is a company who takes its aesthetics seriously. It is evident in the precise positioning of its quilting, the use of leather that is made from leftovers from cattle as well as the sustainable management of forests, and the ingenuous patterns of its levers. A car like the Continental GT W12 beckons as you approach it and showcases its stunning sculptural design and power through carefully planned lighting.
The Continental GT is Bentley's most sophisticated open-top car. Its rear tonneau for instance, displayed the largest piece of dark-stained, book-matched Burr Walnut veneer ever applied to a production Bentley. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.
It is this bespoke design, craftsmanship and attention to detail that have established Bentley as the most sought-after automobile brand. The company continues pushing boundaries using the most advanced technologies and hand-crafted products. This includes the introduction of an electronic tilt-opening rear window sunroof as well as a hand-crafted Apple iPad docking station.
A century after its founding, Bentley - now under sole Volkswagen ownership after years of fighting with BMW and BMW - celebrated its centennial in 2019. Prior to the pandemic plan taking center stage, the marque was hosting a variety of special events and launches planned to mark this milestone event.
Design
Bentley is famous for its extravagant and luxurious automobiles and even the keys are designed to stand out. The Bentayga Key is made of sterling silver with a large B' logo to show everyone that you're driving a Bentley. The key is also inscribed with the dates 1919 and 2019 to mark the company’s centenary.
Bentley Mulliner redesigned and redesigned the Mulsanne to be the ultimate Grand Touring vehicle. It features two opposing pairs of rear seats modelled on luxury private aircraft offering passengers unbeatable comfort and security. The custom heating and ventilation system as well as the air conditioning system was created to provide each passenger with the ideal climate control settings.
The Mulsanne has twin turbocharged 6.75 litre W12 engine that puts out 560bhp, and 479lb-ft of torque. This colossal power is complemented by a brand new suspension system that provides Bentley's signature hushed ride.
Bentley has released a special specification for cars manufactured after 2019 to commemorate its centenary. This is called the Centenary Specification. This includes cross-stitching and contrast stitching in Centenary Gold thread throughout the cabin. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are embroidered in Centenary Gold, adding to the sense of celebration. A bespoke Bentley key case is also included in the Centenary Specification, making the Bentley experience all-inclusive.
Function
The Bentley Mulsanne key has an open button on the trunk and a second button that starts the car. The key also comes with a switch that allows you to turn on the parking brake. The knob can be used to fold or unfold the mirrors when parked in a tight area. This feature makes it easier to get into and out of your car.
Each key takes about two days to make. It is hand cut and shaped, then sewn, sealed and polished to create the highest-quality finish. It is light and compact and will fit the Bentley key perfectly. Its design resembles the Volkswagen Phaeton's massive car key, but it feels heavier and more luxurious.
It is also equipped with Secure-A-Key which can help prevent theft of keys with no key. The device is inserted into the remote-control fob, and it shuts it down when the key isn't utilized for a period of a few minutes. It stops thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices which can unlock and start the vehicle.
The Keylab reflects the company's values that include high-quality craftsmanship engineering expertise, as well as cutting-edge technology. Over 4,000 employees are employed at its Crewe headquarters, which is responsible for the design, development and production of Bentley cars. They apply their expertise that have been handed through generations to current automotive technologies. This is British manufacturing at its best.
Personalisation
Bentley's bespoke division, Mulliner, allows customers to create their own vehicle. Guests sit at a series of pictures referred to as "mood stations" and pick a collection of photos ranging from picturesque views to sporting events that can inspire them. As each selection is made, a pattern will emerge that reveals the models and colors of the personalized Bentley.
The configuration that is created is loaded onto individual R.F.I.D.-enabled keys that are then presented to the guests in a custom key case. Keys can also be outfitted with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps which light the door's opening path with the owner's name and/or emblem as they make their way towards the vehicle.
Bentley estimates that it takes around 500 man-hours to design and put together the typical Mulsanne. The inability to adopt modern technology is the key to this time-consuming effort. The Crewe factory workers don't make use of a machine to create perfectly matched cross stitched leather seats. Instead they do it by hand. And rather than letting the car's built in sensors guide it to parallel and perpendicular parking spots the drivers must do it by hand.
Bentley showcased its Mulliner personalization capabilities with the release of a special Mulsanne W.O. Edition, which pays homage to William Osler, the founder of Bentley. The Mulsanne W.O. Edition pays tribute to the founder William Osler Bentley. The limited-edition cars come with a special key that displays a small portion of the 1930 8 Litre's crankshaft.
