Intensely horny? Good news: we've got the best vibrators you can buy. There are more than a dozen reasons masturbation is good for you : it can not only help you destress but can also boost your mood and potentially help you fall asleep faster. Masturbation can also increase your libido, make period cramps feel better, and let’s be honest, using a sex toy can feel like a workout, too.
Although fingers are an excellent sex toy , many of us turn to vibrators for our masturbation needs. “Rocking your hips, arching your back, grinding against your toy,” whatever you do, sex educator Luna Matatas says to “give it” to your vibrator rather than using your vibe to “give it to you.” But to really get into it, you have to have the right vibrator. The best vibrators come in a number of different styles, with more or less powerful motors, and come in materials ranging from hard metal to soft silicone. Finding the right vibrator for you can take some experimentation.
Besides masturbation, using sex toys with a partner can increase pleasure for both parties and invite a sense of playfulness into the bedroom (or bathroom, or kitchen…). “There are lots of couples that are looking for vibrators to use together,” says Jenn Mason, founder and owner of WinkWink , a Washington–based, women-owned sex shop. “Sometimes the instinct is to go for something really small and discreet for your first time, but I always encourage people to think about getting something that's a little bit bigger if they're using it with a partner, because it has a higher chance of success and is easier to find the right spot.”
If you’re looking to expand your collection from that tiny bullet vibe you picked up at Spencer’s years ago, if you’re a sex toy novice , or you and your partner are looking for a few to try together, you may be unsure how to navigate the many, many options. We tapped a group of sex experts to get their read on the best vibrators for people with vulvas. But Mason notes that most—if not all—of these will feel good on a penis or around other erogenous zones, too. See all of our expert-recommended sex toy picks right here.

Clitoris suction vibrators are a great option for targeted clitoral stimulation and for anyone who wants something that mimics the sensation of oral sex. Makayla Elkin Odom , M.A., NCC, ACS, CSE, a certified sexologist and doctoral candidate in human sexuality, tells SELF this toy’s four-hour battery life and waterproof design are ideal for those “looking to experience remarkable clitoral pleasure.” The nontraditional shape of the Womanizer, which has a hollow silicone tip like other suction-heavy toys, also allows for pinpointed sensation on the clitoris.
If you’re looking to focus solely on your clitoris but prefer a gentler, deeper sensation, the Lelo Sila comes highly recommended by Kate Moyle , psychosexual therapist and host of the Sexual Wellness Sessions podcast. The Sila has a larger mouth than other clitoral stimulators and uses sonic waves instead of buzzing vibrations, so the sensation you experience is less intense overall. “Because of the sonic waves, the intensity is spread across the whole clitoris and is not just focused on the glands of the clitoris,” Moyle says.
Here’s a suction toy that sexologist Malika O’Neill, founder and CEO of The Pleasure Collective LLC , suggests for long-lasting orgasms. The design of this toy in particular fits a wide range of vulvas, thanks to the deep and long mouth, she says.
Lovehoney sex expert and sex educator Ashley Cobb recommends this cute, colorful suction vibrator, which is the product of a collaboration with singer Lily Allen. Cobb likes it in particular for its petite, portable size, making it discreet enough to slip into a purse, as well as its two different-size pleasure heads, which allow for pinpointed sensation. “It has six intensity speeds, so you can find the head that works the best for your vulva, place it there, turn it on, and it does this pulsating vibration over your clitoris,” says Cobb, adding that it works nicely for nipple play too.
“The whole idea of the Liberty is that it's compact, you can just throw it in your bag, and it's discreet,” Lovehoney sex expert Dr. Megan Fleming tells SELF. “The Lily Allen one is just a little bit too vibrant for some tastes, while the solid color options are more subtle.” The powerful vibrations and intensity levels, are, of course, the same.
The bestselling Amazon vibrator uses air suction for waves of pleasure designed to mimic oral sex. It has 11 intensities and it's waterproof with a magnetic charge connection (no USB charger needed), just in case you want to take it in the bath or shower.
With their broad heads and long handles, wand vibrators can be used in a variety of different positions and offer pleasure to all bodies. This souped-up cordless version of the classic Hitachi Magic Wand came recommended by both Odom and Danielle Bezalel, M.P.H., host of the podcast Sex Ed With DB . When it comes to clitoral vibrators, they don’t get much more powerful than this (it’s way too big for insertion, so don’t be turned off by its large size). Odom considers this toy an essential, and Bezalel adds that this is the toy to try if you have trouble orgasming.
Jordin Wiggins, N.D. , sex expert, recommends the We-Vibe Melt as a toy with “just the right amount of suction and vibration.” She likes that the design is slim enough to fit between couples in nearly every position for coupled sex, as well as being great on its own for solo play. Like many We-Vibe toys, this one can also be hooked up to an app “so your partner can control the intensity while you hold it just where you want it,” she says. (Hello, long-distance relationship savior.)
Another pick from expert-beloved LELO, its newest sex toy is an update of the bestselling Sila air suction toy. It's built for sex toy beginners (but pros will love it too). This iteration has the brands Cruise Control technology, which uses sonic waves and constant, unique pulsations so you won't have to think about pressing buttons and changing settings. Plus, it has a wide mouth that covers the entire clitoris, not just the center.
If you want the power and functionality of the Magic Wand with just a hint of personality, Katherine Zagone, N.D. , medical director and sexual wellness expert at Gentera , says this is like a more elegant version of the classic wand. It’s rechargeable and slightly smaller, and comes in rose gold, violet, and blue shades. Plus, unlike the Magic Wand, it’s waterproof, so you can even use it in the tub.
Sex experts love Dame—and for good reason. Each vibe is made with a powerful motor and premium body-safe silicone. The brand's newest toy, Com, is an ergonomic take on the classic wand massager . It has a flexible neck so that you can rest your arm while still holding the vibe at the perfect angle. Its interesting shape also means that it works for many non-able-bodied folks, which is a huge win when it comes to closing the pleasure gap. It has five intensities and patterns for external stimulation, and is surprisingly quiet for its size.
Rebecca Blanton , a kink educator and sex blogger, likes this wand over other vibrating wand models because it’s got a very powerful, intense “thuddy” sensation. “The length of the handle is long enough to suit most bigger-bodied folks and wide enough to be comfortable to handle for people with arthritis,” Blanton explains. (She adds that the company Lovehoney works to be inclusive of all bodies, including bigger bodies and trans folks, in its modeling, making this a truly feel good purchase.)
When it comes to wands, sex therapist Shamyra Howard, LCSW , likes Lovehoney’s Bodywand Aqua. This is a wand that “does not mind getting wet!” Waterproof, wireless, and whisper-quiet, the Bodywand Aqua is an excellent choice for bathtime or for travel.
Rabbit vibrators are the best of both worlds: A longer, tapered head for penetration, plus a (typically) rabbit-shaped component that can stimulate your clitoris simultaneously. This rabbit-style toy has two vibrator motors inside—one with a higher-pitched vibration for clitoral stimulation, and the other with a deeper, more rumbly vibration for G-spot stimulation—explains Odom. The curve and girth of the toy also means it’s perfect for G-spot play and for providing a sense of fullness inside you.
“If you’ve been wanting to have a blended orgasm, the Nova 2 should be your first stop,” says Emily Morse, doctor of human sexuality, sex educator, relationship expert, and host of the Sex With Emily podcast. Nova 2’s external stimulator curves inward and flexes so that you have consistent stimulation on your clitoris while using it while the internal stimulator adjusts to fit your body and hit your G-spot in just the right, well, spot.
For a slightly more high-tech version, Conger likes the Lioness because it syncs to an app that can map out your sensual experience, from temperature and muscle contractions to orgasms, all in a high-quality rabbit vibrator. “You can explore the intimate details of your erotic blueprint through seeing exactly how you respond physiologically to stimulation,” she says.
O’Neill considers a rabbit vibrator a must-have, and her top pick is this Greedy Girl option that comes with a whopping 36 vibration combinations and a waterproof body.
“What I like about rabbit vibrators is that they can give you a blended orgasm, thanks to both clitoris and G-spot stimulation,” Dr. Fleming tells SELF. “The Jessica Rabbit has three different speeds and plenty of patterns, plus it's waterproof and battery-operated.” This one has a more accessible price point too. “I always recommend that whenever you're trying something new, maybe try first a lower-end version of the vibrator type because, if you discover that it's your favorite and your go-to, you can always like up level to a higher-end version.”
Here’s another rabbit vibrator that actually flexes up and down to provide a stroking sensation inside you instead of just stationary vibration. “The Ina Wave by Lelo mimics the come-hither motion of a lover’s hand on the G-spot combined with clitoral vibration to provide intense orgasms,” explains Zagone.
Adina Mahalli, M.S.W., relationship expert, and women’s health specialist at Maple Holistics, calls this rabbit-and-anal-bead combo the trifecta of pleasure. While she cautions that it might be too much for some pleasure seekers and beginners, if you know that you like G-spot stimulation combined with clitoral and anal stimulation, this is the toy for you. (Just be sure to use lube.)
Lelo knows how to make a rabbit vibrator. Experts recommend rabbit vibrators like the Soraya 2, which offers dual stimulation through a long-tapered head for penetration and a smaller ergonomic component for the clitoris. It also has 12 vibration settings and is USB rechargeable.
Mahalli also recommends this toy as “one of the best sex toys on the market today,” as it can stimulate both the clit and the G-spot at the same time. The smooth design and seven vibration modes also make it easy for anyone to insert and great for beginners.
Jessica Cline , a clinical sexologist and licensed therapist, suggests this toy for both G-spot pleasure and suction stimulation for the clit. It might look a bit weird at first, but it’s basically a rabbit vibrator, only instead of bunny ears to vibrate against your clitoris, there’s a Womanizer attached to it. Genius.
If you’re a newbie to vibrators and find the giant ones intimidating, certified sex coach, educator, and writer Gigi Engle recommends the Amour Dual G Wand. She says it’s great for anyone who knows they enjoy both external and internal stimulation, and she calls the wand “smooth, sleek, and objectively not horrifying.”
Monica Grover, DO, a double-board certified gynecologist at VSPOT, likes the Arc from Dame for exploring your vulva. “By moving it around and changing the speeds and sensations, you will really be giving yourself a crash course in pleasure,” she tells SELF. The Arc’s deep curvature makes it perfect for both external and internal play. Plus, it (and all other Dame toys) is made with medical-grade silicone so you never have to worry about safety.
Like many G-spot vibrators, this one from Hot Octopuss has a flexible silicone head and a slight curve at the top. “There are a lot of different options for for how vibrator motors feel, and the Kurve has different vibration settings: Treble (buzzy), bass (rumbly), or both at the same time,” Mason tells SELF. “I think that's great for a beginner who doesn't know what kind of sensations they like, or for anybody who wants a vibrator that offers different kinds of sensations.” Like we don't always all like the same thing all the time. And so the hot octopus curve is really really good for offering some variety in how it stimulates.
An awesome toy for G-spotting that Odom recommends is the We-Vibe Rave. The pronounced angle and curvature mean you can maintain complete control of the toy, and the asymmetric shape can be twisted internally to increase your chances of squirting, she says.
This super versatile Lelo toy has a great g-spot curve and a firm body “to make the most of it,” says Carol Queen, PhD , staff sexologist at Good Vibrations. The shape of the head makes it great for both clitoris stimulation and internal play. This toy comes in four different colors: gray, rose, pink, and blue.
If standard vibrators are meh for you, Conger also recommends trying one like this that pulsates instead of simply vibrating. “The clitoris can be overstimulated by the sensation of direct vibration, and many women respond more pleasurably to a sex toy that thrusts back and forth on its own,” Conger explains.
Goody Howard , sexologist, educator, and consultant , raves about the Osé 2 rechargeable vibrator, which is designed by women and has both an insertable G-spot massager and a separate clitoral stimulator with 10 intensity speeds. It's a bit of a hybrid and functions slightly differently from a traditional suction model. “The stimulator sends gentle pulses through the clitoris, which is different from suction and an even more amazing sensation,” Howard says. The G-spot massager has a unique moving bump within it that mimics the stroke of a finger. When you purchase an Osé, you can even work with a fit expert to ensure you’ve got the right one. Howard notes that the Osé is typically used for the vulva but can be used anally as well.
Another peachy pick from Engle is the Bender. She likes its slim, minimalist, vaguely futuristic shape and says you can easily curve the vibrator to hit both your clitoris and your G-spot—or one or the other.
The Tiger Vibe G5 consistently holds a spot in Babeland’s top-sellers, says the store’s brand manager Lisa Finn. It’s named for the toy’s textured stripes, which make it “one of the most sensational (literally and figuratively) insertable toys on the market,” Finn says. The Tiger Vibe is curved for G-spot and prostate play and has a wide, ridged base that makes it safe for anal sex.
If you want something slightly more discreet than a wand vibrator, you can invest in a compact flexible vibrator that still allows you to apply targeted pressure wherever you need it and can easily be tucked away when it’s not in use. As Bezalel notes, these are often quieter than a rumbling wand option. She recommends the Dame Products Pom “if you love to keep it quiet under the sheets and have some flexibility in your toys.” This vibrator fits in the palm of your hand, making it perfectly portable and discreet.
Dr. Grover says the Filare is “the perfect toy for your partner to use on you to explore what you like during oral sex.” This little toys is designed to mimic the feeling of a tongue, with two beads under the silky smooth silicone that swirl in different directions like a tongue flicking your clit.
Dr. Fleming approves of this compact vibe from Agent Provocateur's collaboration with Lovehoney. It
