On The Topic Of ... Consistency
AustererieI write what I thought, and what I thought came to life. So, take my thoughts with a grain of salt.
“Consistency is key. Consistency is key. What? Consistency is key. Consistency is KEY. Consistency IS KEY. CONSISTENCY IS KEY”.
So, why can’t I, why can’t you, hold on to it with dear life? I do not believe the realization is lost on us. We are well aware consistency produces results. We’ve heard, we’ve read, we’ve seen that if we stick to what we do long enough, seeing something tangible is inevitable. Then, I ask you once again, why is it hard to be consistent?
Truly a vast concept to dive into. But allow me to discuss one thing: Consistency when having an audience. It could be a parent eagerly waiting for you to become successful, could be your friends waiting for you to back up the dreams you spoke about confidently, could be your co-worker waiting to live vicariously through you, could be your professor who saw potential in you and is waiting for you to improve, could be your platform that is made up of strangers you know nothing about, and many more eyes that look at you. That look at you with the anticipation of greatness. Greatness you couldn’t provide.
But you, you’re self-aware, you’re smart, you know greatness takes time, and you’re working towards it. So why does it feel like a humiliation ritual to move forward when you don’t have results? There’s a slimy feeling to being the person that is “trying” but not “winning”. Especially when your futile efforts are public knowledge.
One win. One measly win is all it takes. Suddenly those fruitless efforts are romanticized into “hard work”. Suddenly you’re talking about how sticking to it worked out for you. Suddenly your audience is telling others how they always knew you'd make it. Suddenly the narrative is no longer the "depressing try-hard" but rather the "tortured genius".
So, as a mere nobody, I kindly remind you that you are right for choosing consistency and to keep moving forward.
