'Disgusted' mum says her daughter was using the site on a Sunday morning when she was targeted
A YOUNG mum has been left sickened after her 10-year-old daughter was apparently flashed by a man on a webcam chat site.
The mother has said her daughter was using the site Omegle when a man told her she was "pretty" before he exposed his privates.
Omegle connects two users at random so they can chat either through video or text.
The girl's mother told Wales Online: "On Sunday morning my daughter was on her laptop, and she said ‘mum I went on this website where people are pulling their willies out to me.’
"So we signed on to it and this man came up, and she looks her age, about nine or ten.
"The man said you are very pretty and you have a good smile and then he stood up and showed his private parts.
"I logged it off straight away. I didn’t know what to say - it’s disgusting. I told her that you are never to go on that website again.
"Later she said that all the girls in her school are on it. I want other mums to know what is happening."
The chat site's homepage describes the page as a "great way to make new friends" but adds "predators have been known to use Omegle, so please be careful."
The website's small print advises that it should not be used by children aged under 13.
The despairing mum continued: "The thing is they shouldn’t know about stuff like that at this age.
"When I was 14 we used to go on Yahoo Chat but that was it.
"But they’re only 10 years old, they’re too young to know.
"I didn’t want to ban her from it all, but now when she’s on her laptop she sits with me so I can see what’s she doing.”
South Wales Police are investigating the alleged flashing and have said it is reminder for parents to be wary of what their kids are up to online.
A spokeswoman said: "The internet is a huge part of young people’s lives so it is important to take an interest, just as you do with their activities in the real world.
"It is important to remember that parental controls alone aren’t a solution and it is still important to talk to your child about online safety."
