I've rented from these guys several times. The equipment is always above average for rental and in good shape. The staff is always awesome. And of course it's a great place to paddle a kayak or paddle board. Dyes Inlet is a protected body of water that often has water like glass.
Meh. Also, meh. They have a nice selection and very competent help. They are polite and respectful and you can expect expert advice. That said, I've spent a lot of money at this place and have been disappointed with their follow-up. Over the last couple of years any time I've needed to order replacement parts or whatnot, their follow-up has been nonexistent. I suspect that if you are busy and do not have time to do their job of following up with them that your customer service ends with the purchase. Unless you can get over to them in person, you're on your own for service on whatever your purchases are.
I liked this store a lot, but it seems like REI is the better choice for if/when you run into any product issues. When my $1249.00 Pau Hana Solo SUP Backcountry Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board sprunk a leak and started deflating out on the Sound on only its 3rd time out, I called the store to see if they would help me repair or replace it. I offered that I would pay for them to help me repair it. They said no, call Pau Hana to deal with it via warranty. Based on my experiences with REI, I believe REI would have just swapped it out for a brand new one. I regret not purchasing this from REI, based on this experience.
Watch it! These guys will rip you off if not careful. I made clear what I wanted, and was handed a product (dry bag) at least double the size. Didn't realize it until I got home after a 2.5 hour drive, as I didn't have my reader glasses with me. No apologies at all from them when I called. So not only are they one of the priciest kayak stores, they are one of the most dishonest.
We are sorry that this happened to Connie. We have been in business for over 35 years providing quality products and service to the paddling community which speaks for our reliability, honesty, and customer service. We have issued you a full refund without you asking for one and ask that you keep the product as a gesture of our good faith. John K. Owner
I was in Seattle area test driving the new turbocharged AWD Volkswagen #GolfAlltrack a few weeks ago, and we decided to use the car to go kayaking at Olympic Outdoor Center's Port Gamble location. I had never previously been kayaking, so I was concerned that I might flip the kayak over and drop my iPhone in the water! (Of course I could have just left my phone in the car, but then I wouldn't be able to capture any content, duh) The nice kayak instructors hooked me up with a plastic bag that I could safeguard my phone into, and I stuffed it into my life vest. They were extremely helpful to our entire group, and showed us how fun and easy kayaking can be! I can't wait to go kayaking again thanks to my awesome experience with these guys! We were at the poulsbo location yesterday. It was a super nice day, and the poor girl working there needed more help. It seemed like they didn't plan for the volume of people on a nice day. Instead of taking care of a group that was there and had their paperwork done she kept stopping to take care of people that had just walked up. Customers were having to help each other. The whole thing would have gone a lot smoother if one group at a time would have been taken care of. There needs to be better planning on managements part for good weather days, and training for employees in how to handle a higher than normal volume.
Tons of outdoor on-the-water Fun! For kayak weekend-warriors, this a great affordable alternative to owning your own kayak or standup paddle board. Reasonable prices & good service. The training & tutotial was in-depth and got me refamiliarized with the kayaks features. Safety was their priority. Would definitely do again!! Overall score: 4.25 / 5.00
We went to the Poulsbo location today to go kayaking for our anniversary. They have snacks (ice cream, Popsicles, chips), water, soda, sunscreen and even sun glasses for sale. When we got there, a group of people were getting ready to out in their kayaks so we didn't know if we would get one. Brandon (I think?) was working by himself and he handled himself very well for being so busy on a Monday! He was super patient with us when I had to keep adjusting the pedals on my boat. We saw seals, cranes and a ton of creepy jellyfish. When we came back in, he was helping a huge group of kids with paddle boards and he stayed patient with them. We'll come back just because the employees seriously rock!
My first kayaking experience, we had so much fun! The girl that helped us out was definitely in a bad mood. I don't blame her though, it was such a busy day at the marina with all the boats and the farmer's markets going on today. I expected them to give us a lot of instruction and tips before heading out, but they barely did. So, we had to figure it out on our own, after hitting like 10 different boats in the area. The view here wasn't as spectacular as I expected, but that was on me. This would probably be a good choice for beginners since you're going along the shore the majority of the time.

Can't say enough good things about these folks. We used two of their locations and they were both excellent. Drew got us all set up in Port Gamble and we had a fun Kayak in the fog. A couple of days later we tried the Poulsbo location and Tim took great care of us. Loved exploring the Marina and the Seal Colony nearby in the Sunshine. Detailed Safety instructions both times. Thanks for making our week in this beautiful area so much fun! Can't wait to come back.

Hi. I want to know if I can go with my own kayas.? Or to what place do people like me who have their own kayaks go?
Of course you are welcome to bring whatever you like except glass or styrofoam. We are the only place that you can have a grill much less drinks by the river in San Marcos! If you need more kayaks, paddleboards or rafts then they are available… more

This was such an amazing day for me and my son. Ben planned such a great trip for us. We started at the university and the crystal clear water was amazing. He then took us down these fun small rapids and we spent the rest of the day fishing the calm and beautiful San Marcos river. Ben could not have been nicer and did everything possible to make sure we had a great day.
My family and I went to this place thinking of new adventure we are about to have and enjoy the summer. When we got there the place is run down and unclean and rubbish everywhere like nooners been attending the area to keep it to codes. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Save your time and scroll on to the next.
My wife and I wanted surprise the kids with a zip line adventure and we bought a Groupon. Scheduled the date 3 weeks before to coordinate the work schedules. When we arrived there was no sign so we drove around looking for this place. When we figured it was right off the accessroad we entered a small driveway to a back. No one was there. I tried to call the number a few times and no answer. Then place looked abandoned and inside the building looked like it was ransacked. I asked for a refund with Groupon and they were happy to give it to me. I don't know where the Groupon review of 4.5 stars came from. I'm very upset and felt like I was scammed.
DO NOT GO HERE. I REPEAT DO NOT GO HERE. If you are trying to have your child's birthday under a cabana or trying to watch your child go down a zip line then, yes, go here, have fun, relax and enjoy the San Marcos river. HOWEVER!!!! if you are looking at Olympic Outdoor Center as a ONE-OF-A-KIND, San Marcos kayak outfitter where all your hops and kayaking dreams will be granted then you will be solely disappointed. What the heck there's an outfitter in San Marcos that NOT ONLY provides kayaks BUT can also pick you up?!! Down!! Sign me up. "...Oh you wanna drop here. We can pick you up here or here. Dont worry we got you. Just call us and we got you!" DONT BELIEVE THESE LIES!!! I met with Manu earlier who mentioned that Olympic Outdoor Center could provide me with San Marcos River pickup service for only $10. All I would need to do is call his or the owners, Ben's, mobil and either one of them could come and pick you up. I asked, of course,"How long would it take for you, or Ben, to pick me up" "Just depends, just call us when you get to the dam and we will be there in 15'ISH minutes" WAIT THERES A DAM IN SAN MARCOS??!! I replayed with"..okay, so call you at the dam and SOMEONE will come get me. RIGHT?? SOMEONE will be there in like 30 minutes" "YEAH, man, we got you" After this deceleration of assurance, I got into my kayak. Ready to explore the unknown, and began my adventure into the unknown. Hoping, that everything will happen as stated. Someone will come and save me after my travels because if not then...umm what do I do??!! I push the negative, fearful thoughts, out of my head and think what was stated will happen. When I get to the dam,I will call Ben, the owener(?) and he will come and get me everything going to be okay. TRUST THE COMPANY!! Focus on the river. After about 80 minutes of kayaking I reach the Blanco, San Marcos river where, as directed by the company, called Ben, the owner, and stated "..hey man, I'm at the merger. Where am I EXACTLY meeting you? He stated "meet me on the left BEFORE THE dam!" "okay man, so at Texas State Tubes?" He stated "... no thats private property do not go there!" With confusion I stated, "..okay so after Texas State Tubes, not after the bridge, because thats also private property, but before" If you are confused, dont worry, I was as well. I see tubes, I smell beer, I hear Randy Rodgers, I know I am on the verge of Texas State Tubes which tells me, BASED OFF OF THE DIRECTIONS OF THE OWENER, that I am not supposed to park at TsT and that there is a pick up strip BEFORE the bridge. WELL, YOU KNOW WHAT!!! THERE ISNT A PICK UP SPOT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BRIDGE!!!! IT IS ON THE right side of the bridge!!! And IF YOU GO PAST THE BRIDE THEN YOU ARE 100% Effed and you will have to pull your kayak up a steep incline and HOPE you are in the right place. What I did was paddle my A off to the back of the bridge called Ben. "..Hey man, I dont know if im at the right place but I am here" Ben saying "Dropping off a big crowd and can get you." Well dude, you didn't come NORE did I see you drop off anyone. After 15 minutes of waiting I called this company AT LEAST 15-20 times with ZERO answer.NOTHING. I docked at 2:30 and WAITED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR oooovvvvver 2 hours. Yes, two hours, WAITING. Calling. EVENING TEXTING. Ben even messed me saying "I am on my way" Well where are you going to meet me? What vehicle are you in? You know the important information you need if you are X amount of miles/hours away from home with no mode of transportation. After TWO HOURS of waiting and calling on the side of the road, FOR OVER TWO HOURS WITH NO COMMUNICATION, I finally decided to get an Uber, get my car and picked up my own damn kayak. This is the thing. If you are swamped, busy, whatever, I get that, but you ONE HUNDERED PERCENT ignored my phone calls. You turned your phone off. I even called your worker and his phone went straight to vmail. You DID NOT keep in contact with me. YOU LEFT ME ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD! With no communication what so ever FOR OVER 2 HOURS!! KNOWING I CANNOT DEPEND ON YOU!! I got an uber, drove the 5 minutes back to my car, picked up my car to pick up my kayak AND guess what I saw. THE GUY PICKING UP A GROUP OF 10!!! WTF!!! Dear Ben, you sent me a text at 2:15 saying "I am on my way" I waited and you never showed. Like I said, I wanted to believe in your company. I wanted to recommend your business to my friends who wish to kayak with me. I wanted to think you were Gods gift to San Marcos but, in all honestly, you are just a representation of San Marcos politics. Slow and unreliable. I will never do business with you again NOR will I recommend your outfitter to ANYONE. I hope my review helps others. PS. if you dont have a lifejacket AT LEAST on your kayak and you get caught you get a 250$ ticket thanks for NOT telling me that. bruh honestly. really.
I bought a Groupon for a zipline experience for my Kids, niece, & husband. We planned it way ahead because my niece had to request work off and we all had to coordinate schedules to be together. I reserved our time to be today. December 2, @10am-2pm. Well we arrived trying to find the place. No sign is available. We had to figure out where it was. When we went behind the building there was no one there. Inside the building looked like someone trashed the inside of the house. We called the phone number on file a number of times and even text message as that's what it said on the voice mail. No response at all. All in all we waiting about an hour and everyone was getting upset in my party. The place looked like it was abandon. Like a scene from the walking dead. My kids were afraid to go outside the car. I feel like I got scammed with my Groupon. Pictures online were deceiving. Then my daughter looked at them and the pictures online were from 4 years ago. Well things change in a year. This was suppose to be a nice trip ended being a flop. I want a refund of what I paid Groupon. I will contact them. Update. I finally received a text message from them. At about 8pm the same day. I'm already completely turned off to returning to the place. It shouldn't take them 10 hours to contact me especially if their business phone is a mobile device.
I feel conflicted about writing this review because the last thing that I want to do during this pandemic is make life harder for a small business owner. However, the owner isn't taking any precautions to ensure social distancing, and I feel obligated to let people know they will be risking their safety and the safety of others by doing business here. Kayaking seems like a great social distancing activity, so we decided to call and see how they're doing business. The owner told us that he is 100% able to maintain social distancing. He mentioned that when we get picked up, we could "ride in the trailer attached to the van" but if we wanted to sit in the van "it's big enough for people to keep a safe distance". That couldn't be fur
