Utility Menu. Results 1 to 23 of The snow and weather improved drastically over the last week, with lots of new snow and high pressure forecasted for the weekend. Plans were quickly made with Tyler Chmnyboy to make some turns on his side of the water in Olympic National Park. We would not be disappointed. It was an easy 4 mile skin to the hut given the trail breaking had already been down by two-split boarders ahead of us, and we settled in for the night at the Waterhole right after sunset. The Waterhole Shelter is conveniently located in a protected location just SW of Eagle Point, with a quick 45 minute skin taking you from the hut to the top of Eagle Point. The views do not suck from Eagle Point: From there great fall line skiing abounds on literally all aspects. The snow stability looked good, getting us super amped to shred some pow OP style. Tyler making some of his first turns of the trip: I followed suit: The sun was baking these east facing slopes, so we quickly transitioned and headed back for one more sunny lap. Along the way we eyed our next lines, before enjoying some more sunny pow. All smiles at the bottom: After warming up on the mellow SE facing terrain, the adjacent steeper NE terrain was calling our names. At this point the stoke of sun and stable pow in an isolated location made the uphill trailbreaking duty a breeze. This shady entrance would lead us to more wide open pow shots. Tyler enjoying some high speeds turns out onto the lower apron: Me following suit. Tyler killing it down lower on the same face: The snow was so good on this aspect we lapped back around and skied another line skiers left of our original drop point. The snow was even deeper here, as evidenced by the following photos: All smiles at the bottom Back up we went, soaking in our handiwork from earlier in the day, and the impressive mountain views. Some low clouds started building making for some sweet skin track stoke: Pretty cool that from the top of Eagle Point both Baker and Mt. Olympus were visible. Tyler thought this was P. Shredding some pow off the summit of Eagle Point: Down in the basin below Eagle Point it started to set in just how awesome the day had been. Everything had come together to create a nearly perfect day. Looking back on our tracks down Eagle Point:. After regaining the ridge between us and the Waterhole, we coasted back through the south facing trees still harboring excellent snow and rolled back down our skin track to the hut. Dry clothes, food and a warm sleeping bag were a nice change of pace after a big day. Mountain House Beef Stroganoff hitting the spot for dinner: After a chilly second night, we rallied Sunday morning to make two more runs off the West face of Eagle Point before packing up and making the 4 mile skin back to the road. Enjoying the last turns of the trip: Parting shot of our tracks on Eagle Point from the Hurricane Ridge Road: All in all one of the best backcountry trips I've been on.
