Olu Deniz buying blow

Some dramatic photos of a mid-air collision on Friday April 25th at Olu Deniz taken by Leighton Rolley, a semi-professional photographer who caught the action on camera. Emirhan throws his reserve. They all go down together with Mahoney holding onto Emirhan's wing for a while. Near the sea Mahoney gets free and wing-overs back to the beach. Wow, that is some realy great pictures. Ouch, indeed, from the photographers point of view these are great pictures. From a pilots point of view quite ambivalent: both lucky and sad. Lucky that noone was hurt, sad that some people don't have the common sense to look for clear airspace before they throw their acro moves. I mean that student pilot is likely scared out of his wits now for a while. Imagine that had happened to you during the schooling Ah Mahonei, pirate of the skies 'still in the life, chasing the death' he is Kurdish and was the guy that flew in and saved the German when no one else would last year,he also pisses in my swimming pool, and when he stayed on the island in the off season with me passed his cp,brave and honourable man but dont lend him your sister if you dont want her broken. Broken is putting it lightly. Does anyone know what exactly happened there? Very happy to see no one got hurt physicaly at least. This sport is so rewarding, yet one stupid mistake and all goes kaboom. Obviously not good enough. I still don't know, should I count this as a pure accident or a stupid mistake. The truth is probably somewhere in between. Happy flying and stay safe. The truth is in the middle,as for properly trained, yes to pass c. Emirhan - the student pilot - was flying out straight over the sea on his first big flight. Mahoney was above him and to the side, with a girl tandem passenger. She was attractive they say. He finished off his cigarette from what I hear , went into a SAT, and collided into the student pilot who had the presence of mind to quickly throw his reserve. His glider was ripped down the middle upper surface. No one should do acro moves above or in the vicinity of student pilots. Quote: bloody stupid I think bloody reckless is the more appropriate expression. Sad, but shit happens. James says'shit happens' I don't think that would be his reaction if it was his wing and he was flying it. I am sorry but work seems to think they own me,Mahonei correct spelling,i know get me learned to fly in the funniest of ways a real case of needs must i can confirm this story as i was there for most of it. Ifeel the story is funnier in the 1st person so i will tell it as i was told.. His brother a lovely guy with a modicom of intelect said 'no u r a dangerous idiot and will die' based on several motorbike and car crashes Mahonei pleads, gets nowhere coerces a 'friend'into taking him up and launching him 55 kilo solo on 15 year old tandem,no ground handeling and told pul left for left, right for right during his flight down through trial error, luck and a helping hand from Mohamed he gets to the beach and goes straight through Belchekiz hotels glass roof He is being shouted at by everyone but has a broken leg so cant do a lot. After his leg heals he again asks brother again brother says no only louder with expletives hosperchoocoo is my favorite so Mahonei steals a glider from focus goes up mountain and here he changes his modus operandi,'this time bravver i not stupid i watch many pilots take off until i sure i can do it' HOLD POINT: So again he waits to heal and this time his brother agrees to teach him before he kills himself himself So that is what happens and he becomes Arguably the best pilot in OLU and definatly the best acro pilot around,he has an ability to get out of problems second to non, actualy second only to his ability to get into trouble, add to that the worse case of 'dog on heat'syndrome i have ever seen thank god as b4 i met him i thought i had a problem so if you add a female into the equation his ability and judgement go out the window Turkish honour is index linked. Always know where Mahonei is flying and never fly to close to him 3. Have camecorder ready whenever Mahonei is flying with a hot woman. HOLD POINT: So again he waits to heal and this time his brother agrees to teach him before he kills himself himself  So that is what happens and he becomes Arguably the best pilot in OLU and definatly the best acro pilot around,he has an ability to get out of problems second to non, actualy second only to his ability to get into trouble, add to that the worse case of 'dog on heat'syndrome i have ever seen thank god as b4 i met him i thought i had a problem so if you add a female into the equation his ability and judgement go out the window Turkish honour is index linked :D Ahh, another great reason to love Paragliding-- the freaks. Yes, there are a lot of drips in the sport but never a shortage of freaks, thankfully! I did lend my sister to Mahoni.. And she was the one in this crash.. Next time i'll take her myself. Didn't know there was an article about this story here. But the story i not completely correct. We now have an insight to this man's problems. How in fact does he earn a living with a reputation such as he has? I have heard of a number of instances where his SATS have converged on an innocent pilot minding his own business. Is it not possible for the local police to caution him or something similar? He is endangering life by his incompetence. Phil Draper recently told me that Mahonei is named in a fatality at Babadag,i know nothing of this anyone know where i can find this list,,,his turkish name is Mehmet Akol. Bas sorry about sister hope she is ok,i love Mahonei but from time to time he is prone to stupidity, difficult argument realy as this sport attracts a certain type For completeness I thought: this is not good, especially if we're going to land in the water. So I started to push and pull things off off me. In the end we were still stuck through some lines. But I managed to get rid of those too. Then we flew to the beach. She made two short solo flights. She's thinking of picking up the sport Just like her brother Bas, and her father seen swimming in some of the photos. After an incident like that She's far more moxy than I have. SAT stands for 'stupid assed turks'. Sounds like a character this Mahonei, but My reason for having a reserve is linked to this kind of jackass. After having the shit scared out of me several times by other pilots, notably at Annecy, I decided to get a reserve -finally given to me by a neighbor who quit the sport Merci M. I can't, for the life of me, understand why you wouldn't cripple someone who did this sort of thing to you -especially to impress a piece of tail! Good photos though, and respect to Mahonei for continuing after an start to his career. He is predominatly a great guy verry decent in turkish terms but verry different and for him son of goat herder paragliding is his way out and defines him. Many locals are intollerant of us and believe the sky is theirs Members of my club to my eternal shame are going through a typicaly English 'rape of Turkey' phase and think its all beer and adventure and on the tourist boulevard it may appear to be,but a few streets back a nd a verry different world lurks. I lived there for a year and have been hollidaying there for ten,my tips for enjoyment and survival follow, they are based on my expieriences and wont apply to everyone but here is what a lot of time money and intergration taught me Fly towards beach makesure u have penetration as early as possible keep busy sing or talk to yourself turn often relax As a rule of thumb land on beach concrete hurts whats the point All packers are equal overpay them or take them a coke when they are done I think that two things should be done to really make your trip trust me on this 1, Mini adventure,at some point have an evening still flight to butterfly valley, take off turn left not the first valley with an aerial lykia the second is butterfly a modern glider will get you there with height to spare fly in and land on beach, cheap accom in treehouse big party catch boat home in morning or afternoon good sub aqua from beach i once swam back to Olu but i am not normal 2, Maxi adventure dolmush, taxi, hire car to Kas cash beautiful cornish fishing village 1 hour from olu, lots of cheap places to stay great bars and restaurants, where many Turks go on holliday lovely. The local guide will take you to take off and you have a sea facing ridge at feet that extends 18 km you can fly all the way along it then back and land in marina in town a must Dont deface atta turks imade i. As a normal rule, those who ask don't get But on this occasion, the rule is waived. Good post - have karma! Karmic ballance almost restored, just read it and full of typos but cant put myself through it how do i spellcheck on forum? Thanks Steve. Take care not to launch in fethye wind. Watch for 20 minutes before launching, especially on Babadag. Re: Spell checker: My browser firefox does that, it's nothing that the site can easily do IT may mean father mountain but it can be a total mother I can't comment on Turkish people generally on Mehmet but everyone i met there was great and helpful Everything flinty sez about Babadag echoes the briefings we were given on SIV there and makes a lot of sense. Couple of other things to add If taking a ride up with a tandem company and they take off but you don't fancy launching they'll launch through cloud - no fly no pay!! You might look round and find your lift down has already disappeared!!!! Take some bearings on your GPS so if you end up in cloud you know which way is which and can fly out AWAY from mountain - it can cloud up quickly up there.. Best landing is on the beach near path and if there's a gap in the people let the wing fall onto concrete - soft landing for you but no sand in wing Avoid where tandems land! If you are really organised you land near a toilet block and a bar! Watch the food though - our group all got funny tums after eating at BF.. I had a nice sleep in the treehouse after my beer but make sure you got change for the boat home! If you get the timing right after its got thermal enough to transition across to the valley but just before the valley wind kicks in too strong - a short window you can have a nice fly up the valley to Kemer then take bus back to Fethiye and then change at Olu Deniz - a nice little adventure about an hours flight - thanks to Jockey S for the briefing I even got welcomed into a local home and given a beer on landing! Its a good place - but needs respect.. Yes good fun to fly past butterfly valley kellybak bardisi, try to speak the language it is always appreciated but check your height the next obvious spot is kabac beautiful layed back campsite all welcome tricky to land there and going back if to low not possible I just spell checked this thanks to mr Duck thank you have some karma it loaded itself i didnt have to do anything. Click here to register, or login. I thought somebody said SAT. I didn't see any SAT, just a piss-poor, jackass into an innocent pilot underneath. What's the story Eva? Oh, and sorry for referring to you as a 'piece of tail' He narrowly escapes killing two other people besides himself. He closely escapes a jail term for manslaughter. He hasn't paid for the damage to the wing of the student he nearly killed. Mahonei thinks that all this is OK, because shit happens'. Did I get that right? Yes if you allow for years of prejudice and believe that accidents dont happen,it seems that the vid suggests it is open to interpretation u cantankerous old goat. If this is the attitude of pilots in this area I wont be flying there! Lower pilot, limited vis above due to canopy and a student to boot - open to interpretation As for the pasenger saying 'no one got hurt so all's well' no its not okay, you could have died! All three were just lucky. Of course, it's prejudice to ask why the higher glider didn't give way because he's Turkish? Apparently the most basic give way rules don't apply here do you have right of way if you're doing acro? Which bit is open to interpretation? Did the student, apparently flying straight and level, get the in way some how? If I was the student, I'd be pretty pissed off. Cheers John. It was messy, I was there. Ok he was higher but didnt look like he was satting and passenger said the other glider turned back unexpectedly so J W like littigation paragliding is not a cut and dried art!! Air law is interpreted differently iny many parts of the world and if flying somewhere new i assume a defensive position and imagine no one knows airlaw If you take the view that this is a lawless place and 'i aint going' that is puerile and no one is bothered apart from one less 'punter to crash into' I have seen worse everywhere from Anneccy to slovenia it is part of what we do it can be minamalised and in the interests of safety i have given M an almighty fire and brimstone bollocking which he has taken on board despite turkish pride as i have his respect, hard earned so who knows maybe he will be a bit diminished next season You mean Jocelyn dont you? Antisocial,to posh, tight, aloof,or rather treat em as numbers rather than get to know em they may be lawn darts in the morn? The dutchman has high tables and i once bitch slapped Gustav right over one without him touching it WTF does one call someone who lives in Guernsey? That may be true Flinty, but it shouldn't be. At no point is the lower pilot at fault. You may or may not know this Flinty, me 'ol cock, but the reason the lower pilot always has right of way is because he has a hard time seeing through his wing to know where the higher pilot is. If I'm on the jury then your man Mahonei is guilty! Did he pay out for the other pilot's wing at all? Litigation aside I still would have knocked three shades of Turkish Delight out of him if it had been me. As i aint one are called Gurns you must see a different vid to me cuz it shows em already tangled, and i understand airlaw and opaque glider syndrome but assume no one else does specially in the redneck french equivelent of bumfuck indianna where u live! On a serious note yes it was repaired localy and he paid as for violence did it ever realy solve anything? Oh and ask around i can deffo get more fucked up than yow. Once you're off the PCP watch it again. The camera pans right then comes back to the gliders as they become entangled. As for violence solving anything, um, no, but it has appeased my own sense of fear and injustice on many occasions. When are you next in the Alps because I'm going nowhere near Guernsey. These wonderful people all have a few things in common: they are motivated by a deep sense of complete egoistical thinking — usually coming from an even deeper sense of insecurity and inadequacy, they always feel like the victim no matter how brutal and stupid their behavior and they always have an excuse. They bottom line is that they are very, very dangerous — unfortunately not just to themselves. I have watched him fly and also launch his tandem several times at Olu, all I can say if I was going to go up tandem then he would be the guy. After watching some of the take offs from other tandems I was less than impressed yet Mahoney only weighing a mere 60kg was able to always reverse and control with guys twice his size unassisted. The desired effect to discourage her from flying did not work. Cheers Gary. Air law as has been discussed elsewhere on this forum is scarily obscure. If I enter an area where parachuting takes place the rules still apply. Does a parachute have priority over a glider? Should the glider be looking up just in case? An acro glider can transform into a parachute. Then we have the whole scenario of pilots on over water courses loosing control. Does air law allow you to do this? Does a lower glider have right of way over a higher glider out of control? One of the pilots involved in this incident was a trainee. I suppose the instructor knows the site well and is aware that acro flying takes place there. The instructor should have an excellent view of his student and the developing situation. I assume that the student is paying the instructor for sound advice. I would be interested to know the instructors evaluation of what took place. I have never met Mahoney but he has an excellent reputation for piloting skills. The only criticisms I have read of him are that he is coloured, tottood and has piercings. This seems to have been a bad business all round. All the best,. All topics. Turkish honour is index linked :D.
