Olivia Wilde may have looked innocent in her lace H&M dress for her appearance on the Late Night With Seth Meyers, but the conversation skewed to the naughty side when she opened up about her nude scenes on HBO's Vinyl .
"I was naked on the show last week, but I got to wear a merkin," Wilde boldly explained. "The merkin is a pubic wig, and it's great." It seems like this would make the racy scenes even more embarrassing for the 32-year-old actress, but she likes having the extra hair. "It makes you feel a little less naked," she added.
While she loved wearing the extra prop to make her feel more covered up, she didn't want her other cast members to mistake the faux strands for her actual pubic hair. "I was so vocal about it being fake because I was horrified that background actors might think this is my real body hair," Wilde said. "So I walked around like, 'Whoa, check this fake merkin out, everyone! It's not real.'"
The additional fuzz helped to bring the nostalgic time period to life. "In the '70s people let it all grow out," Wilde said. It can be hard to make trendy decades like the disco era come to life, especially since staples like bell-bottoms and suede mini skirts are becoming popular again. So the fluffy merkins are crucial to the HBO show, which is centered around a music executive's hustle during the rock-and-roll decade. "You see the pubic hair and you're like, 'this happened a long time ago,'" Wilde explained.
And Wilde's character, Devon Finestra, isn't the only cast member who rocks one of the custom hairpieces. "We have the merkin wall for all of the women on the show. They each have names and you design your own. It's like build-a-bush," she joked.

Olivia Wilde has a new full-frontal nude scene in HBO's Vinyl. In order to blend in with the show's era, she sports a fake bush, also known as a Merkin, which is apparently a thing that exists.
Nude celebrities are one of life's great fits. That's partially because we feel like we're seeing something we're not supposed to (even when everything is on the up and up), which means people like Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus getting naked all the damn time kind of takes the shine off the novelty. Thankfully, the uber-hot Olivia Wilde is dedicated to her craft, and plays the role of a former Andy Warhol groupie in 1970s New York on HBO's new series Vinyl. As part of the job, she strips completely nude .
Well, not completely nude, if you want to be super pedantic about it. She's wearing what's known as a Merkin, or a little toupe for your crotch region. The show takes place in the 70s, after all, when going bare was not nearly as common as it is today.
"I'm pretty clean... (but I felt) less naked. You're wearing a little fur bikini... I was walking around to the whole crew going, 'Look at this!'" she told Howard Stern, according to the Daily Mail .
Also good to know: Olivia Wilde keeps things smooth downstairs.

But Olivia Wilde is back with a bang after appearing in her most daring project to date.
The actress, 32, stunned fans of her racy new drama Vinyl in the US this week as she went completely nude in hedonistic scenes.

Wilde plays former model and Warhol groupie Devon in the 1970s drama and certainly brought the wild era to life as she stripped off to pose for a life drawing.
The star showed off her amazing figure in all its glory in the hit new HBO series.
In the first episode, Olivia had to strip down for a sex scene with co-star Bobby Cannavale, who plays her on-screen husband Richie Finestra.
However, she wasn't completely in the buff - the actress has revealed that she was wearing a merkin for the show.
