Remember the story of Mercy Igoki, the 48-year-old senior assistant university registrar who accused her daughter of stealing her husband?
Mercy met and adopted an orphaned girl who was three years older than her first born. That was in 2006.
The girl bonded very well with her family and her problems began when she had to resign her job to recover from an accident that left her with multiple fractures.
โ€œI enrolled for an undergraduate degree in Meru. I would be away from home sometimes up to three weeks or longer at a time because of my studies,โ€ Mercy was quoted in Parent magazine, adding that she then began hearing rumours from neighbours about her adopted daughter sleeping with her husband.
โ€œIn anger, I confronted them and to my shock, my husband blamed me for the affair, saying I had brought the girl to him,โ€ said Mercy. She has since forgiven them.
Then there was the case of Samuel Kamotho, a Thika-based engineer who was almost lynched by his neighbours after his wife, Virginia Wangari, accused him of sleeping with his 18-year-old daughter, Lucy Nyawira.
Stories of fathers sleeping with their daughters, biological or adopted, never seem to leave people gaping in wonder.
In the case above, the 51-year-old Kamotho denied the allegations, claiming his wife was peddling lies to tarnish his name for refusing to accept her back.
His daughter too denied there was any sexual relationship between them.
But why do fathers sleep with their daughters? And do girls fancy sexual intimacy with their fathers? Is it that some men have such a low sense of value and coupled with their insatiable desire for sex, are blinded into engaging in such distasteful incestuous acts?
Irene Waruru, a businesswoman based in Kiambu, claims that one of her neighbours slept with his biological daughter for years without being questioned.
โ€œI think he was depressed. His wife and family members were aware of what was going on, but did not do anything. His daughter did not complain either. It was such a twisted family,โ€ she claimed.
But not all cases involve mentally-disturbed fathers; sometimes a totally sane man can take advantage of a mentally-ill daughter.
A while back, a Maralal court slapped a 60-year-old man with a 20-year jail sentence for defiling his mentally-ill stepdaughter and infecting her with a sexually transmitted disease.
The then Maralal Principal Magistrate, Charles Ndegwa who sentenced Lesunya Lekirimpoto, said the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused had committed the offence and โ€œthe court sentences the accused to serve 20 years in jail to serve as an example to would-be offenders.โ€
The court heard that the accused, his stepdaughter and his wife were sleeping in the same bed when he committed the offence.
He is said to have turned on the teenager after he had domestic differences with his wife and proceeded to defile her.
A quarrel ensued after the incident, prompting the complainant and her mother to report the accused at Wamba Police Station after which he was arrested.
In mitigation, Lekirimpoto, pleaded for leniency because he was the sole breadwinner. But the court said the sentence was commensurate to the offence committed.
Others blame such acts on orders from โ€˜higher powers.โ€™
Remember the case of the MP from Western Kenya who could no longer visit his village home during the day due to shame as neighbours found out that he was sleeping with his daughter?
Well, it later emerged that the politician had been advised by a local witch doctor to commit the offence to help him win the elections.
Others sleep with their daughters on the instructions of leaders of secret cults, who promise spiritual powers or prolonged lives.

A brother and sister reunited after a lifelong separation have walked out on their respective families in order to set up home together.
Mr Shannon has left behind Rosamond, his wife of 23 years, and their six-year-old son. Mrs Grant, a 49-year-old mother of two, has similarly deserted her husband Graham, to whom she has been married for 29 years.
The relationship between the brother and sister has scandalised the tiny market town of Pickering, North Yorkshire, where Mr Shannon has served as mayor. He has now quit his position as an independent councillor and withdrawn from community life.
The case will provoke fresh concerns about the practice of tracing lost family members. Experts last night repeated warnings that reunions of this sort can stir unexpectedly strong emotions and have unforeseen consequences.
Last night Dorothy, the siblings' 75-year-old mother, spoke of her dismay and embarrassment. She told The Mail on Sunday that she had not seen her son - whom she called Christopher - since she gave him away for adoption. She now never wants to meet him again.
'Christopher went looking for his family and fell for his own sister,' she said from her home in York. 'He was the result of me being raped. I was attacked while I was walking home one night.
'I had him adopted after birth. Christopher went to live with another family and I haven't seen him since. Now, after what they have done, I don't care if I never see either of them again. For years the only people who knew what had happened were my parents and they took their secret to their graves.
'I don't think it's right. How can a brother and sister leave their spouses and go and live together, I presume as man and wife? I am very much against what they have done.'
Mr Shannon, a fisheries team leader with the Environment Agency, decided to trace his lost family members about five years ago - and, 18 months ago, met his sister. It seems that there was an instant bond between them.
Mrs Grant's brother Jeff, 53, who runs a caravan site in York, said: 'Five years ago through a friend I heard John, my half brother, was trying to track down his real family. I agreed to meet him and as soon as I saw him I knew he was kin.
'Then about 18 months ago my other sister Veronica and Jennifer went to meet him. I didn't want to go.
'It seems when John and Jennifer met they were instantly drawn to each other. I think she had been having marriage problems and when she met John she was clutching at straws. It's obvious the feelings she had for him were because he was her brother. Eventually Jennifer left Graham and he called me and broke down in tears as he told me the marriage was over.
'It's obvious Jennifer was looking for affection. I don't think they are doing anything wrong. I told Jennifer it's great if she had at last found somebody. It doesn't matter who the man is, as long as she is happy. I can't see any problem because although they have the same mother they have different fathers, even though we don't know who they are.'
Mr Shannon has twice served as mayor in Pickering. As well as quitting as a councillor, he has resigned from the Pickering in Bloom committee.
Social worker Mrs Shannon, also 46, is left to look after their six-year-old son, Callum. Friends say she is traumatised. At her home in Pickering, she was too upset to speak. All she would say was: 'I cannot talk to you.'
One friend said: 'She's been through hell and cannot understand how her husband meeting his sister could have brought an end to their previously happy marriage and the life they shared for so many years.
'They seemed the perfect couple. They have a lovely cottage home with a garden full of wild flowers. Mrs Shannon has been left totally bewildered by it all.
'It's all the more tragic because of their little son who they so wanted. The Shannons tried for years and Mrs Shannon lost a number of pregnancies before Callum came along. His dad doted on him and we can't understand how he could walk away from it all.
'Now the truth is out it has caused astonishment and disbelief in the town. Everyone is saying, "How on earth could this have happened?รฎ '
At Mrs Grant's former home, a neat semi in a cul-de-sac in York, her husband Graham said: 'I just don't want to make any comment at all.'
But a friend said: 'They seemed an ordinary enough couple. Then she left three or four months ago, walking out after a row. Graham's a decent working bloke who is completely baffled by what's happened.'
Neighbours say the couple rented a holiday cottage from farmer Clifford Foxton for a number of weeks after they left their partners, then moved into a fully furnished property he owns on a longer lease.
It is an idyllic setting, protected by farmer Foxton who strongly denied the couple were in his property when The Mail on Sunday challenged him.
Yet he could later be seen at the rear of the cottage talking to Mr Shannon, who sat listening with his head bowed.
Another neighbour said: 'They're a couple who keep themselves very much to themselves. He's on holiday at the moment. I've seen him around, but not her. They're brother and sister, but apart from that I don't know anything about them.'
This extraordinary story began in 1951 when Mrs Grant was born to her mother Dorothy, who made no entry for her father on her birth certificate.
On June 23, 1954, Dorothy gave birth to Mr Shannon. Then named Christopher, he was adopted at seven months by Bernard Shannon, a woodworking machinist, and his wife Sheila, in Scarborough, on January 11, 1955 at the town's Juvenile Court.
He later met farmer's daughter and civil servant Rosamond Ward. They married at the Parish Church of St Andrew at Middleton in North Yorkshire on November 25, 1978, when both were 24.
Meanwhile, Jennifer, a 20-year-old printer's invoice clerk, married Graham Grant, 21, a panel beater and welder, in September 1972. They have two grown-up sons.
Tracing family members has become increasingly fashionable. One high-profile reunion involved Cabinet Minister Clare Short and her long-lost son; both were surprised by the intensity of the experience.
Genetic Sexual Attraction is the name given to the powerful sense of bonding, which can develop into an obsession, that previously estranged siblings sometimes experience.
Adoption specialist Gwen Richardson, who runs the Searchline agency which has reunited 900 adoptees with parents and siblings worldwide, said Genetic Sexual Attraction was a bond between siblings who have grown up apart and been reunited in later life. She said: 'This attraction can draw siblings together like a magnet. As a result, relationships and marriages can be put under very great strain, or even ended.
'Children who grow up normally together as brothers and sisters have all the fallouts and growing pains, but when separated siblings are reunited as adults they are tremendously curious and want to find out everything about each other.
'But such an extreme chain of events as this is rare. I have never heard of a case quite like this. It is remarkable.'
When asked if he wished to discuss his relationship with his sister, Mr Shannon replied: 'No thanks.'
