Young women don't just have to deal with creepy old guys at bars and at work. They're online, too.
One thing all young women know: Dirty old men are everywhere. They show up to bars and clubs accosting ladies dozens of years their junior. They hit on subordinates at work. The problem with older guys who are in fact dirty old men is that they rarely realize they’re dirty old men — even as they act creepy and inappropriately toward younger women, they think they’re simply attractive older gentlemen who are just frowned upon by “society.”
There's a difference, though. When older men make a concerted and repeated effort to go after substantially younger women and emphasize that their attraction is primarily age-related, that's gross — because the draw isn't the woman's interests or her intelligence, it's her youth. And for those creepy old dudes, the attraction to young women stems from perceived vulnerability and lack of power. (Of course, not all May-December romances, nor all older guys, are creepy! There are plenty of couples whose generational differences don't come with power imbalances or perviness.)
But take this guy here, who sent this message to a woman young enough to be his daughter:
No, girls say nasty things to you because they were raised by their parents to abide by overly-Puritanical norms. It's because you start your creepy messages with salutations like “Hey sweet girl.”
The “sweet girl” thing, by the way, is a creepy internet man standard. Like this 44 –year-old trying to chat up a 22-year-old on OkCupid:
This woman told this man he was creeping her out, and his response was to say “that’s fine!” and keep creeping . It’s impressive, in its way. And so is this next guy, who also sent this message to a woman who is technically a teenager:
At least this next DOM added some financial incentives:
“I’m looking to pay someone for sex, but no prostitutes, please.” Ok dude, sure.
Older perverts also enjoy telling young women how awesome at sex they are and in what great shape they’re in, I suppose to separate themselves out from all the other old perverts who are bad at sex and are also fat. Like this 49-year-old guy here:
Very little upper body strength and most of his teeth? Court me, Barry. Or make a friend your own age in this next online messenger:
Ah yes, the 54-year-old due who thinks he’s 30. Adorable. Clearly totally dateable.
Then there’s this guy, who is also scouring the internet for a magic Get Younger cure:
Sixteen years outside of someone’s age range is not “a wee bit,” but I suppose when you’ve voted in 10 consecutive presidential elections, 16 years isn’t all that long.
What always is inappropriate? Professors hitting on their students. This guy includes both in his creepy missive:
And you seem like the immature type who can’t deal with women his own age.

Home » Hormone Therapy Review » Grumpy Old Man Syndrome – Causes and Treatments
As men grow older, they become more likely to suffer from a condition colloquially known as Grumpy Old Man Syndrome.
Everyone knows that as men grow older, usually as they approach 70, but sometimes before, they become more likely to experience irritability, grumpiness, impatience, and other related symptoms.
Apparently, this has a tremendous impact on the quality of life. Grumpy Old Man Syndrome is the result of a combination of factors, some psychological, some physiological.
From the psychological perspective, this is an era where men often feel the need to wall themselves off to protect themselves from sadness and despair.
They are forced to contend with ideas of their mortality while they also have to deal with the passing of their loved ones and friends. Human beings are also very goal-oriented, and as the amount of time that one has left begins to dwindle, this can be detrimental to mood and health.
This is also a period where health problems become more frequent and more severe.
But we also know that human beings are resoundingly resilient creatures. What prevents aging men from maintaining their stalwart and robust nature as they get older? The growing body of research vigorously contends that Testosterone Deficiency plays a central role.
The Detrimental Impact of Andropause
Andropause is a condition that afflicts millions of men across the United States. In fact, given a long enough life, every man would eventually struggle with issues related to diminished Testosterone Levels.
That's because men, like women, also undergo hormonal changes that are directly attributable to age. Testosterone Production maxes out during puberty and then drops to normalized, healthy levels during early adulthood.
In fact, during our twenties, we produce more than enough Testosterone to keep us feeling robust and looking healthy. Starting around thirty, T-Levels begin to diminish slowly.
Scientists have long been aware of this fact and have spent generations attempting to uncover why. By the time that the average man reaches 70 years of age, their Testosterone Production drops by around 50%.
Of course, every man is different and can experience this decline at a slightly slower or faster rate. Furthermore, lifestyle choices (like smoking and sedentary lifestyle) and other health conditions (like diabetes and obesity) can further deplete Testosterone Levels.
How Does Andropause Compare to Menopause?
Both Menopause and Andropause represent a distinct change in physiology.
The difference between the two conditions revolves around the severity and speed of onset.
Menopause occurs rapidly during late mid-life. For a year or less, the feminine Hormonal Balance tips dramatically and permanently as ovulation stops.
For men, this Hormonal Change occurs very slowly but still leads to massive changes over time. Beginning around age thirty, men start to lose around 1%-1.5% of their Testosterone Production annually.
For years, this is barely noticeable, but from the late-40s and beyond, these changes can be quite dramatic. Recent research shows that around ¼ men over thirty have demonstrably low Testosterone Levels.
The majority of guys with low Testosterone Levels don't show symptoms, but approximately 5% of men are considered to suffer from Low-T.
Many believe that in the future, Low-T Diagnoses will be sure to rise as it becomes more socially acceptable to seek treatment and as the medical community becomes more acutely aware of the harmful effects of Testosterone Deficiency.
What Are The Symptoms of Testosterone Deficiency?
Most folks first consider Low Sex Drive and diminished sexual function when they think of Low-T, but it's a big deal and affects a wide range of physiological tasks that are necessary to support health and vitality.
Men with Testosterone Deficiency are more likely to suffer from low energy, poor sleep quality, hot sweats, irritability, depression, cognitive fogginess, joint pain, nervousness, and anxiety.
Testosterone is an incredibly important hormone about male (and female!) health, but it's also increasingly precious with every passing year.
The problem with Low-T is that many of the symptoms cause the condition to progress further. Anxiety increases cortisol levels which also depletes Testosterone Levels.
Body fat converts Testosterone into Estrogen, causing the current supply of Free Testosterone to drop even lower.
Are You Suffering from Grumpy Old Man Syndrome?
If, as you grow older, you feel quicker to anger than when you were younger and more prone to irritability and self-isolation, your problem may be hormonal rather than psychological.

I was recently interviewed on BBC Radio 2 about grumpiness (much to the chagrin of my husband who believes he is far more qualified to discuss the subject). The presenter was curious to discover at what age men become grumpy and if grumpiness is confined to older men.

Whining teenager: The stage of life when he begins to change into an adult. Hormones transform him physically and mentally, lifting him high one moment and plunging him to depths of despair the next. He is frustrated because he is unwilling or unable to leave the protected environment of his home, yet despises the confines and constraints imposed on him by living there. Working man: He is under pressure from those in charge, or by the demands of his own business. He has financial concerns, deadlines, and responsibilities. He loses sleep at night and grabs 'food to go' during the day. His body is imbalanced. His grouchiness manifests itself in complaints about his job, co-workers, and the daily grind he has to endure. Mid-life: He has begun to age,"Into the lean and slipper'd pantaloon ,With spectacles on nose"He has now attained the position he once strove for at work, has fathered children, and has a house, a mortgage, and a car. He peers in the mirror and realises he is no longer young. He worries that he is running out of time to fulfil his dreams and ambitions. Old age: He is a shell of his former self--both physically and mentally. He becomes invisible to those younger than him. He lacks a sense of purpose. He loses his firmness and assertiveness, and shrinks in stature and personality. The final stage where he becomes dependent on others. He is frustrated and frightened. Little wonder he is querulous

Recent research states that more men suffer from 'Grumpy Old Man' syndrome when they hit 70. There are good reasons to believe this to be the case. Seventy is an age when men may become more aware of their own mortality as they see friends and loved ones pass on. They might be struggling with wearisome health problems, and/or feel depressed because they have no aspirations or goals left to attain. 'Grumpy Old Man' syndrome is also and most likely due to the fact that testosterone levels in a 70-year-old are quite probably half the normal levels of a younger man.
Whereas women's estrogen levels drop relatively suddenly when they go through menopause, causing a variety of noticeable symptoms, men's testosterone levels drop gradually over a period of time so the symptoms are not as obvious.
Men who suffer from this syndrome may experience a sense of feeling burned out, increased depression, increased irritability, increased anxiety, more nervousness, more joint complaints, reduced mental effectiveness, increased sweating, (and hot sweats in thirty per cent of those affected). They may have a need for more sleep or suffer sleep disturbances. They may notice muscular weakness, physical exhaustion, impaired sexual potency, a disturbed libido, and decreased beard growth.
Stress, toxicity, a poor diet with too many bad fats, autoimmune diseases and some drugs can also lead to a drop in testosterone levels. Also, abdominal fat, which makes estrogen, will neutralize the testosterone and cause levels to drop further.
Are only men grumpy? Of course not. Whilst there is evidence that men can suffer from 'Grumpy Old Man' syndrome, youngsters and women can also become grumpy.
Being grouchy is down to a number of factors. A person might be having an off day purely because they are not eating the right foods, or are sleep deprived. This is often the case for teenagers who are also struggling with fluctuating levels of hormones. Anyone who has lived with a teenager knows they are often truculent and/or recalcitrant. They have a number of issues usually relating to their looks, their parents, anxieties over their futures, and life in general. They rebel in a number of ways and become strange alien creatures to us more mature people.
So, why having lived with a teenager who has now grown up and left home, do I find myself living with a
