April 23, 2022: Raging Grannies. No War No Warming. Peace and Climate activists unite to save the Planet.
Zhaoxing, in east Guizhou province is one of those little towns you should visit. The reason is that the town is the largest traditional Dong minority town in Guizhou with 3 Wind and Rain bridges and 5 Drum Towers. Most of the village is still build in traditional style. This is a must visit.
The village is located in a valley surrounded by hills. Most of the people here are farmers, working the land in traditional way, even wearing their own traditional clothes.
Although Zhaoxing is a small town, it is the largest Dong village in the region, if not in the whole of China. Even though slowly tourism starts to find Zhaoxing, traditions have not been lost (or sold out to tourism). The few more modern buildings seem to be a bit out of place here.
The reason to visit Zhaoxing is not only to see the village with its 3 Wind and Rain Bridges and 5 Drum Towers but also visit the local market and observe daily life of the Dong people.
The heart of the town is, as usual, the market area. Markets are usually held in the mornings. But it is not the market you would want to see although it is a great place to watch people.
The Dong Towers are traditionally used for performances and announcements, even today they are in use. Often you will find people using the Drum Towers for relaxing or watching performances.

A rare trip off the Black Isle took me to Glen Affric, a magnificent wooded glen not far away from me. Here is a large fragment of the Great Wood, an ancient relic of the pinewood that covered the Highlands. It is being restored to it's full natural glory and is just beautiful.
The downside is that it is usually full of visitors. It is perhaps the best known example of natural caledonian pinewood, and it is accessed by a twisty, single track road that can be a nightmare drive with tourists who have no idea about driving on such narrow roads.
I have avoided it for that reason as I like my woodland visits quiet, respectful and tranquil, which is frustratingly impossible when the tourists are about. The lockdown has changed that, although there were a few folk up there it was just stunning and peaceful. The weather was glorious, too!

We had my daughter Jenny, her partner Owen, granddaughters Lola-Rose and Tula-Rose and daughter Ellie round for a very nice Father's Day BBQ. For some reason I still did the cooking but it was great to have everyone around for the first time since before lockdown.

I wish i could shoot this better. I used automatic focus and it needs to have the digital white thingee defeated. This top is silver threads and shines...like blinding light...and digital won't catch it...
you can see a bit on the back shoe...that shining silver.
The bottom is ENCRUSTED WITH STONES. It's crepe, that stetches,
assymetrical hem has a up flip in the front.
What a find this is. A treasure. It's above my knees but looks so cute.
