I tried to run my Oculus today and after I logged in using my Facebook account, I'm basically stuck at where I'm supposed to "choose the default download location" for Oculus Store app purchases. I tried to change my download locations but it kept saying "an unexpected error occurred. Please try again later." Google returns nothing about the error code OVR88948175 so yeah. Any thoughts?

The fix is pretty easy. Open regedit (just open the start menu and type it).
Then you need to manually build this "folder structure":
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Oculus VR, LLC\Oculus\Libraries\
HKEY_CURRENT_USER and Software is already there. So, Just copy "Oculus VR, LLC", right click on Software then New -> Key -> paste the name.
Like this just add the "Oculus" and "Libraries" keys/folders in the hierarchy and the setup should continue without error. It worked for me at least...

It happens in all cases of 1) using the default location, 2) changing the location for download (within the same drive) and 3) changing the location to another drive. The 'continue' button is greyed out no matter what I tried. And yeah, thanks I just created a ticket.
Did you add a folder for the downloads to the drive you are trying to switch it to? If you don’t have a folder for it then you get an error, this happened to me when I was trying to switch from my C: drive to my D: drive
Well I just followed your suggestions and tried to add folders (downloads, manifests and software) to the drive of my choice. But no luck; still get the same error. Thanks for your help though. Greatly appreciated.
I got the same problem on my default c/ drive. For some weird reason i cant update or download anything. It just keep sayin location path is not available. I cant play the game i just bought :( . Youre not alone. Good luck! I hope we get this fixed soon!
I got this error code when trying to run oculus on an account WITHOUT administrative privileges. The app worked fine on my main account. if you have more than one user try it on the user with Admin privileges
Edit: I can confirm this is in fact your issue. You will need to sign in through an administrative account and grant the account you’re setting up on administrative privileges
I reinstalled oculus into D:\oculus (see https://support.oculus.com/1142129705828091/ ) and it seems to have fixed it, so the time being at least.
This is a nightmare…I tried using this on a machine joined to an Azure domain. On the global admin account, it worked. But any other admin account, azure, or local, it gave the error, despite adding the new registry item, despite making that folder permissions to “Allow All” for everyone. Hell, I’ll try to make the folder the documents folder and it still comes up. Thing is we’re not even going to download any games from the store. We’re using the headset with TwinMotion.

Here is the super easy to follow instructions for dummies like me. My students had this error, but when I was logged into Oculus it was working fine. The default location for saving downloads is c:\program files\oculus\software. But the error says is was is not allowed when it was a student logged in. I tried changing the location to various other drives but none of it worked for them. So, don't try to change the location if you can - leave it as the default one.
Log in to the computer using the user ID with the problem. This was my students login in my case.
Open the cmd prompt window. To do this, just type command into your computer app search bar. The command window will pop up. Type or copy this line of text :
REG ADD "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Oculus VR, LLC\Oculus\Libraries"
Then hit enter. Close the command prompt window. It should be fixed now if you go back to you Oculus app setup.
