Jujutsu Kaisen voice actor Megumi Ogata drops a hint about a character's return and which story arcs will be featured in the anime's second season.
Jujutsu Kaisen teases that Yuta Okkotsu will likely return in the anime's upcoming second season.
SPOILERS FOR JUJUTSU KAISEN FOLLOW:
The teaser message comes from voice actor Megumi Ogata , who voices Jujutsu Kaisen 0 's main protagonist, the timid Yuta Okkotsu. In a post on the official website that announces that Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will finally end its record-breaking theatrical run in Japan, Ogata thanked fans for making the prequel movie a success. She also ended her message by stating that she is looking forward to reprising the role of Yuta. "I'm looking forward to seeing you all again soon as Yuta Okkotsu," the actor said, likely referencing the upcoming second season of MAPPA's acclaimed anime series, which was confirmed to be in production earlier this year and is currently scheduled to premiere sometime in 2023.
While Yuta is frequently mentioned by other characters throughout the series' early arcs, he doesn't actually reappear in person until the manga's eight arc, the Itadori Extermination arc, which suggests that the second season of the anime will at least reach that point in the story, which follows the lengthy and eventful Shibuya Incident arc.
The character of Yuta serves as the protagonist for the series' prequel story, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 . The manga, which was originally published under the title Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, was first released about a year before creator Gege Akutami began the main Jujutsu Kaisen series. The prequel story takes place before Yuji Itadori is introduced to the world of Curses and sorcerers, and instead tells the story of Yuta, a shy young man who is haunted by the spirit of his childhood friend, Rika Orimoto.
While the post on the official website offers a tantalizing hint about the anime series' future, the majority of the message was focused on celebrating the success of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie. The prequel film was directed by Sunghoo Park, who was also the lead director on the first season of the anime series. The movie opened in Japan on Dec. 24 and quickly usurped Evangelion 3.0 + 1.01: Thrice Upon a Time 's place as the highest-grossing film in Japan for the year. The movie earned over 13 billion yen (about $120 million USD at current exchange rates,) during its theatrical run in Japan, making it one of the top 10 highest-grossing anime films of all time. The movie was given a theatrical release in North America by Crunchyroll earlier this year.
The first season of Jujutsu Kaisen is available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The manga is distributed in English by VIZ Media.

Starring as the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Yuta Okkotsu is well-known for his immeasurable cursed energy and formidable abilities.
Following the release of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 on Crunchyroll, many fans of the popular series will finally get to see the animated adaptation of Yuta Okkotsu’s origins . Yuta is one of the most promising characters in the series, and even prior to the production of the Jujutsu Kaisen movie, he was already established as a sorcerer with the potential to surpass the extremely powerful Gojo Satoru.
After starting out as a cursed human with little or no powers of his own, Yuta was taken in by Gojo and enrolled in Jujutsu High. While there, he resolved to use his curse for the sake of others and rapidly grew in strength as a result. Now he is one of the most powerful sorcerers in the series, having a wide range of powerful abilities mostly facilitated by his special heritage.
While imbuing his fists and strengthening his body with cursed energy, Yuta becomes an extremely powerful force in close-quarters combat. He can outmaneuver his opponents and create openings that allow him to deal considerable damage.
In his fight against Suguru Geto , after having his sword broken, he was still able to deliver a powerful blow that sent the special grade sorcerer flying. Later in the series, he is seen in a direct confrontation with two strong reincarnated jujutsu sorcerers. He initially held his own bare-handed, then employed a cursed tool that encased his arm in steel, giving him even more power.
Despite being adept at hand-to-hand combat, Yuta’s main weapon of choice is a katana. His first was granted to him by Gojo to help him better control his power, but it was eventually broken due to an improper infusion of cursed energy. Notwithstanding, Yuta shows a great amount of skill with a sword, being able to match Geto for a short period of time, albeit in a two-on-one confrontation.
This skill was fostered by an intense amount of training with Maki and the rest of his classmates at Jujutsu High, as well as confrontations with different cursed spirits. During his later appearances in the series, he becomes much more proficient at imbuing cursed energy into his katana, allowing for some extremely lethal attacks.
By drawing on two sources of negative cursed energy and multiplying them, it is possible to create positive energy capable of creating and healing. This process is referred to as the Reverse Curse Technique, and it is a complex jujutsu not many sorcerers can perform.
Yuta is not only able to manifest this positive energy but also output it directly, a feat even Gojo isn’t capable of . He used this technique to heal Itadori Yuji while on the brink of death, as well as eliminate the special grade cursed spirit Kurourushi.
Through the use of cursed energy , Yuta is able to drastically increase his physical abilities to superhuman levels. As a result, he gains enough strength, speed, and endurance such that he can fight against some of the most powerful beings in the series while unarmed. One of the first displays of this ability was in confrontation with Geto after the latter had infiltrated Jujutsu High.
During this battle, the human-hating sorcerer remarked that Yuta was gaining even more speed as he fought. After attacking in conjunction with Rika, Yuta was able to close the distance in an instant, consequently delivering an impactful punch also strengthened by cursed energy.
Most likely due to his unique heritage, Yuta essentially has a bottomless amount of cursed energy. As a result, he is capable of firing off large blasts while barely ever depleting his reserves.
During his fight against the cursed spirit Kurourushi, he eliminated all of the spirits’ offshoots with a large amount of energy shot from his katana. He also displayed the ability to output positive energy at a constant rate, as shown when he repeatedly healed himself while fighting against Ryu Ishigori and Takako Uro.
In just under a year of practicing jujutsu, Yuta revealed he could emulate special techniques naturally exclusive to other sorcerers. This ability was developed with the help of his connection with Rika and is still usable with what is left of her presence.
Yuta has great freedom with this ability and is capable of employing it in many different situations. Moreover, techniques he has copied are not known to disappear over time, and he can also use different ones in quick succession. It is not yet known if there is a limit to the number of techniques he can learn, but as of now, his capacity seems to be limitless.
Despite originally being unable to properly handle cursed energy— struggling to imbue his katana with cursed energy and breaking it as a result—Yuta is now one of the most skilled users in the series . He can apply it in different ways, and it serves to aid him greatly in battle.
Through this, he can reinforce his body with cursed energy and perform advanced reverse cursed energy techniques. He can also use his precise control in combat to mislead opponents regarding the nature of his attacks, giving him an additional amount of unpredictability.
Depending on the strength of his will and the surrounding circumstances, Yuta can give birth to powerful cursed spirits with the rank of special grade. Even as a child , he could achieve this, and it was most likely the first expulsion of cursed energy he ever performed.
Though unconsciously, he gave birth to the special grade cursed spirit Rika from the corpse of his childhood friend Rika Orimoto. In this case, Yuta’s ability took the form of a curse and bound Rika’s soul to him until he ended up undoing it. It is also explained that this ability was made possible due to his connection with Sugawara Michizane, one of Japan’s three great apparitions.
