OSRS Smithing Guide: 1-99 Training - Old School Runescape - Odealo

Smithing allows you make various metal items using Ores and Bars. Bars can be smelted at Furnaces, and the Items can be Crafted at Anvils. It is a complementary skill of Mining. If you have both these Skills, you can easily level them up. However, it will take more effort than grinding them individually using the fastest methods. At high Skill levels, Smithing can be used as a solid moneymaking Skill, thanks to the high demand for high-level Metal Bars. Smelting Runite ore is one the most profitable activities in all of the Game. It requires 85 Smithing. You can potentially earn up to 1kk Gold/Hour.

It can be expensive to level up quickly in Mining. You also need to invest a lot of money upfront (you will need to buy Ores or Bars on Grand Exchange). However, you can make some of your money back by selling smelted bars and/or creating Items. This means that many Players might opt for slower, but also cheaper, and/or much more profitable leveling methods. This Guide will discuss the fastest, most efficient and most profitable methods of leveling up Smithing, starting at 99. It will also cover Smithing-related Quests as well as some optional Gear and Items that can help speed up the skilling process.

Odealo is a secure trading platform for MMO gamers. Here you can buy, sell, and trade Runescape Gold with the use of real cash.

Quests are an excellent way to learn the first few Smithing Levels. They are generally faster and cheaper than grinding through the early Smithing Levels manually. Higher requirements and longer quests can be used to gain additional Smithing Experience, or to take a break from the monotonous grind. They might be slower, but they are also certainly more engaging than using an anvil or a furnace nonstop for a few hours.

It is a very long and difficult Quest that is best suited for the most dedicated and experienced Players. However, it offers a lot Smithing experience so we are mentioning it here.

If there are any OSRS Skilling rules, this is certainly one of them: If there is an item or a piece of equipment that can make your grind easier, you should use it. Below, we present you a list of items that will make your Smithing grind a little easier.

Hammer, Bars, Ores, Smith’s Bread and Butter. As you can see, these are a necessity. Hammer is needed to craft items out of Bars. Bars can be used for crafting items while Ores can be used for melting bars. All the materials you need to level up Smithing are going to be the main expense. It's trivial but worth mentioning. Stamina Potions – Energy drinks. These are not really required, but they are very useful when traveling is involved. Stamina Potions can prove to be more useful than you might think if you plan to Skill with the Blast Furnace. Goldsmith Gauntlets - Shiny, shiny experience. These Gauntlets can increase your Experience gained when smelting Gold Ore and Gold Bars by approximately 2,5x (from 22,5 to 562,2 Experience/Per Bar). These Gauntlets are a reward from Family Crest Quest. You can get them by giving magical steel Gauntlets or 25000 gold pieces to NPC Avan, located in the Kharid Mine. These are essential to efficiently earn Experience when you Smelt Gold Bars at Blast Furnace. Ice Gloves – Probably made of asbestos. These allow you to collect Bars at the Blast Furnace without the need to use a Bucket of Water, which frees up inventory space. Combining them with the Goldsmith Gauntlets can increase your Skilling efficiency at Blast Furnace. However, you will need to swap between them as you cannot wear two pairs of Gloves simultaneously. They can be purchased from Ice Queen, which can be found in White Wolf Mountain. The Coal Bag doubles the coal, doubles the fun (efficiency). This Bag can hold 27 pieces of coal, effectively double the amount you can carry and greatly increase your Smelting efficiency. Prospector Percy's Nugget Shop sells it for 100 golden nuggets. Although grinding the Nuggets can take some time, it is well worth the effort, especially if you are planning on smelting Ores to make a profit in the future. Graceful Outfit - Be Light as a Feather. This set of Weight-Reducing Gear will allow you to run for longer, by reducing your Weight and providing you with a 30% boost to Run Energy Regeneration. The whole set provides a weight reduction of 25 kilograms. It can be purchased as a Part from NPC Grace. It will cost you 55 Agility to acquire it. This is required to collect Marks of Grace from Rooftop Agility courses. The whole Set costs 260 Marks, and you should start by buying Cape, Boots, Gloves, and Legs, as those parts provide you with the best Cost/Weight-Reduction ratio. Getting this can be quite of a hassle on its own, but it is worth it. This set is recommended when using the Blast Furnace method.

- The Furnace nearest to a Bank can be found in Edgeville. Alternatively, Furnaces could be found at Falador and Port Phasmatys. Varrock is the location of the Anvil closest to a Bank. It is also very close to Grand Exchange.

Most of the time, leveling up Smithing can be accomplished in a few simple steps. There are also other methods that are more profitable but take longer - these will be covered as well.

- This is done by completing all above-mentioned Recommended Quests (Recipe for Disaster, Heroes' Quest, The Giant Dwarf, Elemental Workshop I, Elemental Workshop II, and The Knight's Sword). You will get a total amount of 30982 Smithing Experience, which is enough for you to go from Level 1 Smithing to level 37 Smithing. This is the recommended route to obtaining the first 36 Smithing level. It takes less time than the Experience Grind.

Note: The Knight's Sword Quest alone is enough to carry you straight to the Level 29 Smithing, and you should complete it even if you do not plan on doing any other Smithing-related quests.

You can create bronze bars by using a Tin Ore combined with a Copper Ore on your Furnace. This method requires that you smith the highest-level Bronze Items possible (Axe at Level 1, Unfinished Bolts Level 3, Dart Tips Level 4, Spears Level 5, Javelin Heads Level 6, Throwing Knives Level 7, etc.

Note: The above-mentioned Bronze Items are currently the most profitable to make at the respectable Skill-levels, but profits from creating them are marginal.

- Smelting Steel Bars at the Blast Furnace has a halved Coal usage, which results in a 140 gold profit per Bar (instead 10 Gold loss). Coal Bags, Ice Gloves, and Coal Bags can produce up to 4000 Steel Bars per hour. This is an approximate 540000 Gold profit per hour after subtracting all costs. This is a slow but very profitable alternative.

Note: For even more profit, you can turn Steel Bars created by Smithing to Cannonballs at Level 35. This is not experience-effective, however.

To smelt Cannonballs, you will need to complete the Dwarf Cannon quest. For a profit of 260 Gold per Smelt, 4 Cannonballs can also be made from 1 Steel Bar. The total production time is 140000 Gold.

- Darts will be used to Power-level Fletching Skill. This means that there is always a demand in the Grand Exchange. Smithing Darts is a slower alternative to power-leveling Smithing by Smelting Gold Bars in the Blast Furnace. - Begin at Level 34 Smithing by Smithing Steel Dart Tips. (3900 Steel Bars will be required for this step). - At Level 54 Smithing switch to Smithing Mithril Dart Tipps (257700 Mithril Bars) for this step. Switch to Smithing Adamant Dart TIPS at Level 74 Smithing (191000 Adamantite Bars) to attain Level 99 Smithing.

Iron Ores can be used on Furnace Furnaces to make Iron Bars. - Level 15 Smithing is required for Smelting Iron Bars from Iron Ores (Smelting 1 Iron Bar awards 12,5 Smithing Experience). This method allows you to create the highest-level Iron Items (Two handed sword at Level 30, Plate legs at Level 31 and Plate body at Level 33).

This is the fastest way to Skilling Smithing up to Level 99. However, it is also the most expensive. This method can be used with the Goldsmith Gauntlets mentioned above, Ice Gloves and Coal Bag, Graceful Set, Stamina Potions and Coal Bag. - You can gain up to 380000 Smithing Experience per Hour by Smelting Gold Bars at the Blast Furnace (while you have all efficiency-increasing items equipped - Goldsmith Gauntlets amount for the highest portion of the Experience gains). - To advance from Level 40 to Level 99 Smithing, you will need to Smelt 231268 Gold Ores (if wearing Goldsmith Gauntlets). Smelted Iron Bars cost 290 more gold than Gold Ores. Therefore, you will lose 290 of your Gold.

Notice: This method of Skilling is not recommended for Level 40-99 Smithing.

You should be able smelt approximately 1500-1600 Runite bars per hour with the right equipment and some skill. This gives you a total of 80000 Smithing experience per an hour. - With this method, you can make up to 650000 Gold per Hour (which makes it a very profitable alternative for gaining those last few Smithing Levels). To maximize efficiency, you will need to have all the items in the "Before you Start” section (except for the Goldsmith Gauntlets). This method is best suited for those with high Agility Skill. This is a slower, but very profitable alternative.
