Billie Eilish is no stranger to magazine covers . However, she usually doesn’t wake up to find herself on the front of a mag that she was completely unaware of. But that’s exactly what Eilish experienced when she caught wind of the latest digital cover of the German edition of Nylon , which the publication shared on Instagram today.
The edition of Nylon is focused on three “Digital Prodigies” who are “redefining the future of being a Teen Superstar." The released cover art, designed by Marcel C. Wilkens features Eilish and internet star twins Lisa and Lena appearing as bald, seemingly topless fembot avatars in shades of pink and yellow. Eilish, who was unaware of the cover’s existence and never granted the magazine permission to feature her, is rightfully upset that Nylon used a photoshopped image depicting her without her hair or a shirt.
In response to the cover, the 17-year-old took to Instagram , commenting on the magazine’s post directly by saying:
After seeing Eilish's response and criticism from her fans, the magazine responded with a statement on Billie's Instagram post that said, “For this cover, it was never our intention to create a look that is confusing or insulting to Billie Eilish. It was only ever our intention to honor Billies impact and her work by creating this avatar which is part of a cover series highlighting the power of digital prodigy artists. This avatar is a piece of 3D artwork created in dedication to her achievements and the positive effect she has had on millions around the globe - including us.”
Nylon has removed the digital cover featuring Billie Eilish without making further comment, but the cover featuring Lisa and Lena is still up on the magazine's Instagram account.

Billie Eilish has slammed Nylon Germany for releasing a digitally altered cover in which she is depicted as a bald and topless robot — without her consent.
The 17-year-old singer, who purposefully hides her body underneath baggy clothes to avoid being objectified, took to Instagram on Tuesday to make it clear that she had nothing to do with the magazine's 'Digital Prodigies' issue, which drops on Friday.
'what the f**k is this s**t,' she wrote. '1. i was never approached by nylon about this piece whatsoever. i did not know it was happening nor did anyone on my team. 2. this is not even a real picture of me. i had absolutely no creative input.
Say what? Billie Eilish, 17, took to Instagram on Tuesday to call out Nylan Germany for releasing a digitally altered cover of her without her consent
Outrage: The singer slammed the publication for depicting her hairless and with bare shoulders when she is only a teen, noting the 3D image is not a real photo of her
'3. youre gonna make a picture of me shirtless?? thats not real?? at 17? and make it the cover???? even if the picture was supposed to look like some robot version of me... i did not consent in any way,' she continued.
'4. ANNNDDD YOU’RE GONNA REMOVE ALL MY F****N HAIR? booooooooooo to you [sic].'
The creepy cover shot, which was shared on Nylon Germany's Instagram page, shows Billie with a bald head, bare shoulders, and gleaming skin.
'Welcome to the f*****g full cover future @billieeilish is one of three cover stars for our new issue #8 on DIGITAL PRODIGIES, dropping this FRIDAY,' the magazine captioned the image.
Upset: Billie purposefully hides her body underneath baggy clothes to avoid being objectified
Sorry: Nylon Germany apologized to Billie in a statement on Instagram, saying it never intended to create a cover that would be 'confusing' or 'insulting' to her
'This issue is all different while still keeping our NYLON spirit alive: We asked fans to tell the stories of three digital prodigies who are redefining the future of being a Teen Superstar.'
After being called out by Billie, the magazine updated the post with a statement apologizing to the 'Bad Guy' singer.
'For this cover, it was never our intention to create a look that is confusing or insulting to Billie Eilish,' the magazine wrote.
'Cancelled': Billie's fans also blasted the magazine for releasing the cover without her consent
'It was only ever our intention to honor Billie‘s impact and her work by creating this avatar which is part of a cover series highlighting the power of digital prodigy artists.
'This avatar is a piece of 3D artwork created in dedication to her achievements and the positive effect she has had on millions around the globe – including us.'
Although the cover only reveals Billie's bare shoulders, people found it particularly insulting because she has made it a point in her career to wear baggy clothes to avoid people commenting on her body.
Fans flocked to the post to call out the magazine for creating the controversial cover without speaking with the hitmaker.
Same vibe: Nylon Germany released a similar robot-inspired cover featuring 17-year-old German twins Lisa and Lena Mantler, who are social media stars
Approved: Like Billie, the twins commented on their cover, but they insisted had 'been asked' beforehand
'THIS IS WHY WE CANCELLED NYLON LAST YEAR,' one person wrote, while another added: 'Ya'll just embarrassed yourself big time.'
Some commenters simply wrote: 'cancelled.'
The next day, Nylon Germany released a similar robot-inspired cover featuring 17-year-old German twins Lisa and Lena Mantler, who are social media stars.
Like Billie, they commented on their cover — but they insisted it was created with their consent.
'We’ve been asked,' they wrote.

A weekly roundup of our favorite celebrity outfits.
Welcome to NYLON's Fit Picks, a weekly roundup of our favorite celebrity outfits.
In the past couple of weeks, Billie Eilish has been booked and busy, embarking on her world tour for Happier Than Ever across Asia, including stops in Manila and Seoul to name a few. The 21-year-old followed up the end of her concerts with a travel diary and a compilation of her #OOTDs, which she shared on Instagram on Sunday, Aug 21.
In a series of new photos from the pop star while in Singapore, the singer was seen hanging out and about in the city, from bumper-car racing to taking a swim in the pool at night. But it seems that Eilish rocked her signature bold look even while off-duty, as she wore a gothcore-inspired outfit during her time there.
The songstress opted for head-to-toe black in her latest ‘fit pic, wearing a loose-fitted silk top styled with a thrifted slip skirt with and paired with a matching top as if it were an LBD. The summer heat didn’t stop her from wearing Moon Boots’ chunky Icon Low Boots in black, too, and she then completed her going-out look with a fitted Y2K hat and her favorite silver jewelry pieces.
“A lot can change in twenty seconds,” Eilish wrote in the caption, referencing the sudden downpour while taking photos outside in the street.
Ahead, check out the rest of our favorite celebrity looks, including Megan Thee Stallion as Sailor Moon, Dua Lipa’s Marc Jacobs birthday outfit, Lili Reinhart in Miu Miu, and more.
Kendall Jenner brought out her athleisurewear over the weekend. On Saturday, Aug. 20, the 818 Tequila mogul was captured off-duty in the Whole Foods parking garage wearing a long white linen skirt adorned with a slit at the leg. She wore her maxi skirt with a forest green ribbed tank top along with a pair of coveted white Adidas Sambas. Finally, Jenner accessorized with a cream-colored canvas tote bag and oval-shaped sunglasses.
Korean girl group Aespa attended the Saint Laurent’s Beauty Zone pop-up store in Seoul coordinating in black ensembles with matching leather heels.
Following the release of her highly-anticipated sophomore album Traumazine , Megan Thee Stallion was seen channeling her inner Sailor Moon during her performance and first-ever visit to Japan’s Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka. The 27-year-old rapper donned the anime character’s signature top styled with a navy blue pleated mini skirt.
Dua Lipa rang in her 27th birthday over the weekend in style, of course. This past Sunday, the Future Nostalgia singer posted her celebratory ‘fit to Instagram , opting for the tiny bedazzled bralette from Marc Jacobs. She then paired her outfit with a maxi cargo skirt and carried a white quilted pillow handbag also from the brand’s Fall 2022 collection.
It was only a matter of time before Doja Cat dropped a clothing line. Over the weekend, the musician and style star sported some pieces from her newly-released collection “ It’s Giving ,” including her “Yes” crop top dressed with a matching white statement thong, chunky silver jewelry, and “I Heart It’s Giving” trucker hat.
While in New York City for his “ Love On ” tour at Madison Square Garden, Harry Styles was photographed on a date night at Rubirosa with his partner Olivia Wilde. Styles wore a multicolored one-of-a-kind crochet lace button-down top by Bode, brown trousers, and white Vans sneakers.
On Thursday, Aug. 18, Hailey Bieber was sighted in Los Angeles wearing a cutout Blumarine blazer dress with thigh-high tights from its Fall 2022 collection. She then opted for chunky Alexander Wang loafers paired with Balenciaga sunglasses and ByFar’s mini Kiki Bag.
Actress and comedian Ego Nwodim attended the Los Angeles special screening of Spin Me Round in Beverly Hills wearing a patterned turquoise mini dress with a fringe hem and tan leather sandals.
Actress Debby Ryan was also seen in attendance at the Spin Me Round screening in Los Angeles rocking Lafayette 148’s Fall 2022 collection. She opted for a dark red double-breasted blazer layered over a pinstripe top and blue trousers. She completed her look with loafers and a new curly mullet.
On Tuesday, Aug. 16, Lili Reinhart arrived at the premiere of her Netflix film Look Both Ways wearing a dazzling green Miu Miu dress and black pumps.
Last week, Swimming With Sharks star Kiernan Shipka was photographed outside in New York sporting a black short-sleeve polo top paired with pink checkered Jacquemus shorts and platform UGG slippers.
Cynthia Erivo arrived at the Los Angeles premiere of Amazon Prime’s The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power donning a silk golden top and a long gray skirt by Rick Owens, accessorized with a pearl-shaped Simone Rocha bag.

Billie Eilish has found a new bad guy.

The newly minted VMA-winner blasted Nylon Germany this week for posting a photoshopped picture of Eilish that she says she had no idea was going to be published.

In the since-deleted post, Eilish appears on what appears to be a digital cover for the publication. The photo shows Eilish’s likeness, but without any hair (or a shirt, though the photo is only of her shoulders and above) and with her skin appearing metallic.

While the picture no longer appears on Nylon Germany ‘s Instagram, they have posted similar photos featuring German social media stars Lisa and Lena, calling their depiction in the caption “ digital avatars .”

Eilish’s comments were captured by the Comments by Celebs account , and the “Bad Guy” singer didn’t hold back.

“what the f— is this s—,” Eilish began her comment, going on to list what she found wrong with the picture.

“1. i was never approached by nylon about this piece whatsoever. i did not know it was happening nor did anyone on my team,” she wrote. “2. this is not even a real picture of me. i had absolutely no creative input.”

What Eilish seemed to be most upset about was the fact that she was depicted without a shirt in the photo — and the singer pointed out that she’s still underage at 17.

“3. youre gonna make a picture of me shirtless?? thats not real?? at 17? and make it the cover???? even if the picture was supposed to look like some robot version of me… i did not consent in any way,” she said.

The kicker was the fact that Eilish appeared bald in the photo: “4. ANNNDDD YOU’RE GONNA REMOVE ALL MY FUCKIN HAIR? booooooooooo to you,” she added, topping off the comment with a middle finger emoji.

Nylon did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment, and Nylon Germany could not be reached. However, the American branch of the magazine responded on Twitter , saying that they disagreed with the decision to “appropriate” Eilish’s image.

“Nylon America is a different company than Nylon Germany and we strongly disagree with their decision to appropriate Billie Eilish’s image without her consent. Nylon America is very sorry to Billie and her fans,” the magazine said.

“We love Billie and everything she stands for,” their statement added . “Her message to young women is important and we vow to continue to help spread it appropriately.”
