Британский архитектор Томас Хизервик наконец-то достроил свою гигантскую скульптуру Vessel в центре района Hudson Yards, что на Манхэттене. Открытие состоялось в минувшую пятницу, 15 марта.
Heatherwick Studio «процитировала» многогранники и спирали голландского художника Маурица Эшера, Испанские ступени в Риме и ступенчатые индийские колодцы.
Время покажет, превратится ли этот «сосуд» за 200 млн $ в еще одну икону Нью-Йорка. Пока после подъема по 154 лестницам и 2 500 ступенькам весьма много негативных отзывов. Но ведь и об Эйфелевой башне и статуе Свободы отзывались поначалу с раздражением.
Сейчас можно бесплатно подняться по всем лестницам на высоту 46 м (150 футов), увидеть реку Гудзон и часть города.
Vessel - рабочее и пока существующее название этой масштабной инсталляции. Проводится публичный конкурс на определение ее постоянного названия.
Vessel - 154 замысловато взаимосвязанных лестничных пролетов и 80 площадок между ними. Это почти миля вертикального подъема. Настоящая альпинистская скульптура!
Конструкция начинается с небольшого основания и веером расширяется до 46 м вверху.
Конструкция способна вместить максимально 1000 человек.
Сделано из бронзированной стали и бетона.
Дизайн Vessel долго держался в секрете. Архитекторы Heatherwick Studio получили только одну рекомендацию от владельцев Hudson Yards - создать «гальванизирующий момент» для мега района за 25 миллиардов долларов.
Вокруг сталелитейного завода на северо-западе Италии, где строились «кости» конструкции, был сооружен 6-метровый забор, чтобы никто не мог ничего видеть.
Еще для подъема на верхний уровень есть наклонный лифт.
Кому-то это напоминает улей, грудную клетку, медный подсвечник, кто-то сравнивает с офисным мусорным ведром в модном пространстве. А кто-то называет это «бессмысленной структурой» и не видит ничего интересного в подъеме и спуске по лестницам.
