King Spa was a good place to ditch my late-winter blues along with my clothes. The unisex men’s bath has four tubs of various temperatures, one wet sauna, one dry sauna and several stand-up and sit-down showers. You definitely have to be comfortable with seeing naked and going naked. It's a meagre substitute against actual outside naturism but it's better than staying home and turning up the heat during a Northeast winter. I did check out the co-ed area and I cannot recommend the spa on those grounds. You must wear a set of shorts and a shirt that King Spa provides You subsequently fill your textiles with sweat as you move from sauna to sauna. Very gross. Top freedom is not allowed in the co-ed area and that applies to men and women. (I don't know if New Jersey has top-free equality but that is moot at this establishment.) My recommendation to nudists is to go to King Spa in the winter while you pine for warmer days. All stars I award an establishment are based upon this system: * * * * * means coed, non-sexual nudity is allowed * * * * means unisex, non-sexual; nudity is allowed * * * means you can probably get away with being naked but it is not legally allowed * * means get naked at your own risk, you might get arrested * means the place advertises as nudist but allows sexual nudity and/or swinging
I've been to King Spa twice, once with my friend and once with my hubby. This was a nice day trip in December, when the temperature is cold and a good way to relax during the holidays. The place is huge, so many different saunas. There Is a restaurant, serving Korean food, TV rooms to nap or watch tv, Internet area( they have computers for your use), ice room. It was a nice way to spend 1/2 a day just relaxing!
I needed some alone time one weekend and decided to try out King Spa. I read good reviews about the place and my friends also recommended it to me. After a long day at work Friday night I came here to be greeted by the Sophia, the front desk receptionist. She was so friendly and answered all my annoying questions. I had a nice relaxing stay in the sauna and hot jacuzzi. After showering, I ate the awesome cold noodles. Definitely was a nice change from my weekly routine of drinking every weekend.
This was a different experience and it was nice stepping out of my comfort zone. The place is very clean, spacious and comfortable. Now it seems100% Korean so there maybe some staff with little English speaking skills but that didn't bother me. I am thankful I went with two other friends otherwise I might have been overwhelmed. When we checked in we didn't get a good tour of the place or layout and that's the only negative I would say happened. We explored and learned. Being totally naked in the bath areas and how large/ open it was was interesting! Seeing the various rooms and sleep areas was also interesting. The restaurant/ food was very decent. But the best experience was the body scrub. It was the first time I ever had a total body treatment. I have had body scrubs before at top spas and it didn't include a mini facial or head massage! All this came as part of the 90 min treatment. I saw my girl grate the cucumber to make my facial mask! It was simply amazing! I was slightly embarrassed by the amount of stuff I saw scrubbed off my skin but after I wanted everyone to touch me and feel skin! I would do this treatment again because it's more than worth the money!
King Spa is open 24 hours which means you can take their free shuttle to and from Manhattan and for that minor hassle and $55 (for staying across midnight $10 is added to the base fee of $45) have total access to their many saunas, steam rooms, infrared treatment rooms, ice sauna (!!!), and mineral water tubs for the entire night. There are communal rooms to sleep in their large recliner chairs or nap on mats. There is a juice bar and a full kitchen which are only closed for a small band of hours so you can refresh yourself after pounding away a day in the city. It is rather a surreal atmosphere as people of all ages are here, coming and going at 3 am, a kind of slice of life of another world. Mostly everyone is Korean and the spa is in a Korean neighborhood. It is a safe, positive experience that is worth going outside one's cultural groove and experiencing another culture's approach to wellbeing. I was so glad I followed an acquaintance's suggestion to go, and will definitely go again until I have the funds to spend the night at a place like the Plaza! For an overnight in the City, it really can't be beat for the price and the benefits to your health. I was as rested as though I had slept even though I only catnapped through the night. Try it!
If i were writing this review 5 years ago my rating of the experience would be above excellent. It was a total mind and body experience that effected you both physically, emotionally and spiritually. the saunas were quiet places where you could experience a meditative atmosphere. Even though other people where in the sauna, they respected your space and remained silent. NOW, while in the sauna you will be subjected to people texting and talking on their cell phones carrying on meaningless conversations about weddings, shopping, relationships and other nonsense. On our most recent trip we had the opportunity (twice) to be in a sauna with a women who was performing yoga and instructing here partner. I'm very disturbed that this unique experience has now turned into a heated episode of the jersey shore. management should get a hold of the situation, they have signs posted asking for silence and banning cell phones but as is common practice in NJ nobody follows the rules. The lack of respect for others and the obnoxious behavior of more than a few customers as taken a most unique experience and puilled it down into the culture of self indulgence.
