This is a great beach area and as one of the closest beaches to New York can get very busy near the parking fields & facilities. However, the Beach is several miles long and so move a short distance away from the parking and the crowds rapidly thin out. The following is not official guidelines but hopefully a practical guide to social nudity at the extremities of Jones Beach with the aim of avoiding offence and prosecution and allowing people to gain that all over tan: New York law allows topless sunbathing so that is OK anywhere on the beaches and as long as you are wearing even the skimpiest of G-strings (genitals covered) you are good to go. Where the issue becomes more clouded is how much cover is required, the requirement is probably to have solid fabric but in reality even if you wear something sheer (see through) you will probably get away with it so long as from a reasonable distance it appears that you are covered. I visited on a week day in June 2018 and parked in Field 6, the most Easterly parking. Entering the beach I turned left as it is then about 3 miles to the next parking area, within only a few hundred yards I came across the 1st windbreaks hiding naked sunbathers from view. From then on there were numerous people/couples, wearing thongs, G-strings, one string G-strings or just naked; generally the further back from the sea next to the dunes the less that was worn. Compared to the Lighthouse “former” nudist beach next to Robert Mosses Beach on Fire Island (still used but no where near the numbers of several years ago since the ban) there were more nudists, probably because this stretch of beach is much wider, longer between centres of textiles and no observation from a lighthouse. This meant that it was much easier to walk around naked as there were fewer passers by who were further away. If you walk around wearing T-shirt and shorts the nudists will mainly cover up if you get close but if you are naked or wearing very little and clearly of the same intent then they wont bother. There weren’t any police patrols in the 3 hours over noon that I was there. There was however a uniformed Naturalist checking on the birds of the dunes armed with binoculars and radio but she didn’t direct her view towards anyone and gave a wide birth of any windbreaks. Compared to Light House Beach I much prefer this section of Jones Beach for stripping off or wearing minimal G-strings. I like the fact the beach is wider, not overlooked by a Lighthouse and much longer to allow more separation from the textiles. But I also found it more friendly/sociable – on Lighthouse the only conversations I have had are the ones I have started where as here several people came over to chat and comment on my very minimal G-strings etc; also here there were more people lying out in the open rather than hiding behind windbreaks. To clarify, this is NOT a cloths optional/nudist beach but there is plenty of nude and virtually nude sunbathing going on but you need to be vigilant to avoid prosecution. Be sensible, discreet and look out for Police, keep away from the crowds and you should be OK but if caught be prepared for the consequences.
Been to Jones Beach several times, it is even pleasant out of season. Nice boardwalk, but considering its size, and the number of people who visit daily, more food concessions would work out well.;
We go here five days a week to walk and jog on the 4 mile health walk on the boardwalk. There are people here all year long from around the world, and we have spoken with many of them. The expansive vistas and clean conditions at all the beach facilities are a credit to the men and women who work here. NY State has put a lot of money into fixing up the place. The Boardwalk Cafe will open in July; the Landing restaurant will open this month;there is a new playground and a splash pond will open in July; there is a Memorial Day air show each year as well as Fourth of July fireworks. Concerts are held in the Jones Beach theater all summer; there is dancing in the boardwalk dance shell on summer evenings The main attraction is the beach and surf which are wonderfully refreshing and guarded by a large team of lifeguards. There will be new attractions added over the next two years including a zip-line.
Visited Jones beach for the first time to watch the Air Show - what a great place. Beach is huge and, in the main very clean. For the Air show there were loads of stalls along the front. Organisation was exceptional considering the volume of traffic. All helped by the fact it was gorgeous weather. $10 for parking and the fabulous Air Show came include. Beautiful place, super Air Show
Visited Jones beach in April, not good time of the year. But still this is vast, beautiful, well maintained beach with lots of recreational facilities to enjoy. Worth visiting on a sunny day that will create long lasting memories.
Its not open yet, but last year we first went alone, then brought other couples because of the view of the ocean, and the food was very good. Don't go, if you are looking for a low priced check. Everything is pretty pricy and owners know, most that come, can afford it, and are there to enjoy the overall atmosphere. It's very nice. It shows them open now only on Sat & Sun, and I recommend, locals go now, because once Memorial Day comes, I'm guessing especially weekends, it will be super busy, but it does have, really good food, and ambiance.

The Best Summer Colognes Will Keep You Smelling Good No Matter How Hot it Gets
Since 1957, GQ has inspired men to look sharper and live smarter with its unparalleled coverage of style, culture, and beyond. From award-winning writing and photography to binge-ready videos to electric live events, GQ meets millions of modern men where they live, creating the moments that create conversations.
The beach at Jacob Riis is a little more challenging to access than the Rockaways or Coney Island . There’s no direct subway, and a Google-mapping of public transport options will lead you through a series of at least three buses. But, despite the lack of mass transit, the people of the city still get there because: summer, heat, and, as tempting as they are, the East and Hudson Rivers are no-go's. Once you finally reach Jacob Riis, you will find that you have ended up on one of the quieter, chiller beaches in NYC. Jacob Riis, and its sister beach Fort Tilden, are where you go when you crave sands less traveled, when a hand-packed picnic is more appealing than boardwalk tacos, and when you’re ready to let it all hang out. Jacob Riis is, after all, NYC’s only de facto nude beach (pretty sure naked sunbathing would be shut down quick-like at Coney Island), as well as a legendary LGBTQ-friendly hang spot. So whether you’re an exhibitionist, or a supporter of #FreeTheNipple, or you just want to spend some time with your flyest friends, Jacob Riis is the place to be. Our photographer, Wayne Lawrence, spotted some of the best beach headwear, the coolest couples (no age limits here), and even the sexiest crocheted bikinis—oh, and a nipple or two. See below for the best this beach has to offer.
