A party believed attended by about 500 people on a nudist beach in northern New South Wales has been broken up by police.
Officers received a complaint about the party at Tyagarah Beach, near Byron Bay, on Sunday morning.
Police were told about 500 people had attended the party throughout the night.

They arrived at 7.30am to find “more than” 20 people still at the party - the limit for public gatherings under coronavirus restrictions.
“Police were told approximately 500 people had attended the party earlier in the evening,” NSW Police said in a statement.
Three people at the party were fined $1000 for breaches of COVID-19 restrictions.
Tyagarah Beach is a “clothes optional” beach where nude bathing is permitted.

Tyagarah Beach, accessed via Grays Lane through the National Park, is a remote beach far less crowded than those located closer to Byron Bay town. The Tyagarah Nature Reserve, which protects the coastline between Byron Bay and Brunswick Heads, is located behind the beach. There is a daily parking fee, or a two year pass is available from National Parks. This wonderful clothes optional beach, section starts 200m south of the carpark, the zone is signalled by signs. This long sandy beach runs over a mile with beautiful views and plenty of surfers to watch.

Despite extra cops and thousands being spent on CCTV, locals say a picturesque beach is still attracting hordes of lewd ‘sex pests’.
For the third time in three months, a NSW council has voted to keep one of its most beautiful beaches clothing optional despite it becoming infamous for being a “sex pest hot spot”.
Police have tried for years to crack down on adult antics along the stretch of Byron Bay’s coastline that includes Tyagarah Beach, following frequent reports of lewd behaviour, public sex and masturbation.
But locals say the only answer is to change the rules and make it illegal to be nude there.
Byron Shire Council upheld Tyagarah Beach’s “clothes optional” status yesterday but did pass a resolution to install $10,000 worth of close-circuit security cameras at the car park as a preventive measure.
Before installing the cameras, the council will liaise with local police regarding their position.
Councillor Alan Hunter put forward the CCTV camera idea despite privacy concerns from some nudists.
He said it was a good step forward to “cleaning up the beach” and anyone who didn’t want to be captured on camera shouldn’t be there.
“It’s about making the beach more transparent and making people more accountable,” Mr Hunter told the AAP.
“People just can’t hide in the bushes and think they can get away with it.”
In September, dozens of naturists protested to keep Tyagarah Beach permanently nudist. The “clothing optional” stretch is the last remaining of its kind in northern NSW.
The protesters, from Byron Naturists Group, staged the Nude Not Lewd Rally on September 16.
On Australia Day, a couple were caught having sex just metres away from the “clothing optional” part of Tyagarah Beach and six months before that, a woman was sexually assaulted in a nearby spot.
The beach has a reputation for being “creepy”, with at least one Google reviewer slamming how people behave and giving Tyagarah a one-star rating.
“A beautiful place, but it can be quite creepy at times with naked men touching themselves. I suggest come in the morning,” he wrote.
Colleen Graham, a local who lives in Tyagarah, told the ABC in September last year she doesn’t go to the beach or nature reserve anymore.
“I’ve had a range of encounters. The most common one is lying on my towel reading a book and a naked man moving his towel very close to me and masturbating,” she told the publication.
“I’ve also seen oral sex, group sex, I’ve had a man physically block my way, men standing really close to my face when I’m on a towel, totally naked and trying to interact with me.
“Pretty much every time I visit the beach, especially if it’s a busy period on the weekend, in the middle of the day, I can almost guarantee I’ll have some sort of experience down at the beach.”
Members of the Tyagarah Community Association, who have been campaigning for months to revoke the beach’s status, are devastated they lost the fight again.
“We are left feeling incredulous that public safety has again been dismissed by councillors,” spokesman Richard Burford said in a statement.
“We cannot believe it. Anywhere else this would not happen. We are just very sad.”
Mr Burford told the AAP the “clothes optional” part of the beach had become a “sex pest hot spot”.
“Unfortunately, nude beaches attract these sorts of people, sex pests, perverts and (people from) sex destination websites,” he said.
The council previously upheld the beach’s “clothes optional” status in October and November.
