A group of Irish women have broken the Guinness World Record for the largest skinny dip, after they stripped off in the sun in county Wicklow on Saturday.
Held at Magheramore Beach, a total of 2,505 women took part in the fundraising event, setting a new world record for the annual ‘Strip and Dip’ swim.
Dressed in nothing but their birthday suits, the women smashed the old record which was set in Perth, Australia in 2015, with 786 participants.
The Wicklow swim is now in its sixth year, and was first organised by Dee Featherstone in, who established the charity skinny dip after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012.
The first Strip and Dip took place just six weeks after her mastectomy in 2013, with around 60 people taking part.
Growing year on year, the swim is open to ladies of all walks of life, including cancer patients, cancer survivors, and those who have otherwise been affected by cancer.
Interest in the event sky-rocketed this year after organisers put out the call to help them break the world record for skinny dipping.
Thus far, the charity has raised an incredible €153,000 for Aoibheann’s Pink Tie, a children’s cancer charity.
Confirming the achievement on Facebook, the group shared a picture of its official Guinness World Records certificate.
The accompanying message read: ‘It’s official. We did it. We’re in the Guinness Book of World Records.’
Due to the nature of the event, high security was employed in the surrounds of the beach, to ensure that participant’s private parts were shielded from any unwanted visitors.
