Following rigorous competition and more than 130,000 voters, the World’s Most Beautiful Vagina Contest anointed a champion this week. It was a strange, difficult-to-gauge event—but that’s why organizers turned to scientists to tell us what it all means.
U.K. resident Nell, 27, won first place and $5,000 in the pageant with a vulva beauty ranking of 7.7 out of 10. Jenny, 23, of Bavaria, Germany, took second place with a 7.3; and Anita, 20, from Hungary, came in third. They each earned $2,500 and $1,250, respectively.
The contest was sponsored by Brian Sloan, who is also the manufacturer of the Autoblow 2 . It’s known as “the first truly realistic alternative to traditional pleasure products for men,” according to the its website .
These winners will also be flown out to Los Angeles, where their vulvas will be 3D-scanned to later be reproduced for the Autoblow device.
Sloan contracted a group of data scientists to analyze the contest’s findings for their scientific implications. The data was then compiled in “ The Vulva Paper .”

The Vulva Paper’s website says scientists “used the contest data to assess the diversity in vulval morphology and voters’ preference for different morphologies.” A total of 182 women participated in the contest; 110 entries were examined for the study (if measurements could not be taken from the photo, the entry was not considered).
The scientists viewed each entry on a 15-inch computer screen, zooming in “until the genitalia were easily measured using a screen ruler,” read the paper .
They measured labia majora length, labia minora length, and clitoral hood length.
Finally, the scientists rated the complexity of the labia minora; they used the three categories of rugosity (smooth, moderate, marked) to do so. To prevent vaginal bias, the same person also conducted all of these measurements. The scientists later used this research to classify the contest’s entries into six different categories of “vulval morphology.”

As far as methodology is concerned, a random assortment of entries was sent to each voter, who was then asked to rate the vulva pictured on a scale from 1 to 10. These voters were only able to rank one photo at a time, but could also vote on an unlimited number of entries. The scientists compiled 2,766,671 ratings from 134,707 contest voters.
“To reduce individual biases, we centered each voter’s ratings using their mean and standard deviation. This allowed us to reflect the preferences of voters on the same scale,” read the study .
According to the paper , each voter rated 21 photos, on average. Each vulva also received 15,285 votes, on average.
The study also found that “roughly 51% of voters preferred the first two classes of non-protruding, simple labia. The other 49% favored the four more complex vulva classes.”
“As expected from the rankings that we saw at the country and local levels, Class 1 vulvas are preferred over the others more often. But the combined percentages of voters who preferred more complex classes of vulvas far outweighed those who preferred the simplest style.”
The winners’ photos, however, were not included in the study—having been among the participants whose photos were not able to be considered. Moreover, the “doggy style” posture featured in these entries made it difficult for the scientists to complete the necessary measurements.
“Indeed, pictures depicting contest entrants in a doggy style position obtained ratings 2 points higher on average (p <0.001) than others. Other features, like piercings in the clitoral hood, didn’t affect the ratings,” read the study .
So basically, the “doggy style” photos generated “influential excitement” among the contest’s voters—an important competitive advantage for all future entrants to consider.

Controversial Channel 4 dating show Naked Attraction returned to the nation's screens on Thursday evening, but viewer noticed what wasn't there quickly.
Within moments of the first reveal on the show, as six women show their legs and private parts on national television, people were asking where all the pubic hair was.
Dom was first up to the plate to have his pick from six women who agreed to show their naked bodies before they showed their faces or had a conversation with him.
Several people immediately spotted that the women on display kept themselves very smooth, with no hair in sight
The six women stood in front of different colour panels, separating them before they got to know their names
As the six panels slid up, there was one thing on common very early on.
And on Twitter, there was a mourning for the lack of pubic hair on display.
Twitter user 'Your Science is Bad' said: 'Did pubic hair go extinct while I wasn't looking?'
Simon asked: 'Where's the pubes? If you don't mind me asking...'
And Tony Bianchi asked: 'What's so bad about pubes?'
The show's first series divided viewers and the first episode of the second series did exactly the same
Jess impressed with her 'brave' tattoo location choice as Dom saw the women naked on the show
He whittled the six contenders down to two, Welsh Tamara and Jess, from Cockermouth
Dom chose to go on a date with Tamara, which surprised presenter Anna Richardson after his exchanges with them both
Dom eventually whittled down the six ladies to two, at which point he too got naked, as it's only fair, and then decided to go on a date with one brave contender, Welsh lass Tamara.
However, viewers then heard later that Jess, who he rejected last, gave him a cheeky follow on Twitter a couple of weeks after filming.
And it seems the longer distance as he lives in Amsterdam wasn't an issue, as the pair began to date.
Dom also met Jess in her hometown of Cockermouth.
Jess was praised by one for getting back in touch with Dom even after he chose the other contestant, Tamara, for a date
During the course of their date, Dom revealed that he's living in Amsterdam, which put Tamara off
But his Naked Attraction experience wasn't over - he heard from Jess a few weeks later and the pair met up a few times afterwards
The show continued to divide people, as it did in series one, with some questioning how people could appear on it and then turn up to work
Izzy was next on the show, and her choices, Isabelle and Eve, noticed that she didn't shave straight away
After Dom's choice came Izzy, a pansexual who dates those who define as men, women or prefer not to define.
Izzy was given a mix of men, women, and two transgender people, one transitioning to a man, and another transitioning to a woman.
But Izzy ended up picking Eve, a woman who chose not to define with a sexual orientation.
When asked why she'd chosen to pick a date on the show, Izzy said: 'It tells you something about who they are if they are willing to get their a*** out on Channel 4.'
Viewers praised the representation of trans bodies as brave Isabelle and Felix showed themselves during the long transition process.
The show has drawn reactions on both ends of the scale, with some praising how open many had become about transitioning, but other being thankful they aren't single
Isabelle told Izzy that her body showed she wasn't afraid to have hair.
When Izzy narrowed her choices down to Isabelle and Eve, she too stripped off, revealing she has chosen not to shave her pubic hair for more than two years.
The programme showed a staggering 363 female genitalia shots and 166 penis shots in its first episode alone.
Last year the show shocked and entertained viewers in equal measure, with thousands complaining about its uncensored content online and media guardians branding it the ‘worst programme ever shown on TV'.

But their date didn't go exactly to plan as Izzy ended up being ill and had to rush off to be sick
The first show of series one featured an average of five penises and two vaginas every minute, with a total of 282 shots of male genitalia and 96 female.
The first episode of series two, which was on at 10pm on Thursday, featured 363 vagina shots and 166 penises - amounting to seven every minute.
Channel 4 said Naked Attraction last year drew an average audience of 1.7 million across five episodes.
A spokesman said: 'In a world where dating is often reduced to swipe left or right this is a light hearted series which aims to demystify the rules of sexual attraction for the Tinder generation.
'In an increasingly complicated dating world, some evolutionary psychologists and sexual scientists believe that our bodies alone may still project the best information for us to select a successful partner.
'Whilst we are socially conditioned not to judge people on their looks, could reversing the dating process and judging someone purely on their naked form actually offer us the best chance of finding a suitable mate?'
