Rivers with Class I flat water interspersed with occasional Class II rapids: waves 1-2 feet high. Using a self-guided watercraft
is an option.
*Best for young children and tentative adults.
NOTE: All-Outdoors Class I-II trips are designed for children aged 5-7 years old and their family.
Rivers with Class I - II water interspersed with Class III rapids: waves usually 2-3 feet high, passageways contain some
obstacles. Rapids are challenging but not overwhelming.
* Best introduction to rafting for the widest range of people.
Rivers with Class I - III water interspersed with occasional Class IV rapids: waves and drops 4 feet high and sometimes higher,
difficult passageways containing some obstacles. Unintentionally falling out of the raft may mean an uncomfortable "swim".
* Best for those with previous Class III experience wanting to try-out Class IV whitewater, and for athletic, adventurous
first-timers.
Rivers with Class I - IV water and more difficult Class IV+ rapids: 4-5 foot waves and drops, complicated by difficult passages
containing obstacles that require quick, precise maneuvering. Falling out of the raft and "swimming" in a rapid will be difficult.

* Best for those with previous Class III or Class IV experience wanting a more difficult whitewater challenge.
Rivers with Class I - IV+ water interspersed with long, tumultuous Class V rapids: 5-8 foot drops and obstacles that must be
avoided. Falling out of the raft means an extremely difficult and potentially hazardous "swim".
* Best for those with previous Class IV & IV+ experience seeking the ultimate whitewater challenge.
Rivers containing rapids that are so difficult that safe passage is doubtful and chances of serious incident, injury and death are almost certain. If attempted and successful, luck deserves the largest portion of credit.

It’s Spring Break. Not that you’d know it with the gray clouds, peals of thunder, and muddy puddle of a front yard we have here at the River Office in Lotus. Am I sitting on a beach in Cancun? Sipping a mini umbrella drink? Working on a tan and reading trashy magazines? No, no, and no. I’m sitting at my desk. Staring at a pile of t-shirt catalogs, trying to decide which ones will end up in our “store” this summer. (And by store, I mean a collection of tupperware bins sitting in the back of an A-O truck.)
I have a problem this time of year: I’m torn between capitalism and idealism. See, the way I figure it, I have an opportunity when I’m stocking our store for the year to make a small difference, save the world and all that. How? By buying organic cotton and hemp shirts, supporting local, family-run businesses and — let’s get down to brass tacks here people — forgoing profit in the name of doing the right thing. Granola versus Hamburger Helper.
But the problem is that saving the world requires creativity and costs more. Lots more. And sometimes I just want to show a profit, you know? Show Scott A that this year I did more than break even. So I start looking at the catalogs with their shiny graphics, endless colour choices, and “proven best sellers.” I call up a rep and ask what she’d recommend. She points me to the “Naked” series. You know, “Raft Naked: It makes your cheeks pink.” Um, I don’t think that’s really what we’re after, I tell her. Maybe the shirt that says “10 reasons why a life jacket is better than your girlfriend?” Run away! Run away!
Since we can’t actually raft naked, as the shirt suggests, and we have to wear something , why not have it made in the USA, and grown in non-polluted soil? It doesn’t really seem that hard on the face of it. Back to the drawing board. Maybe if I put on a Beach Boys record, find a toothpick with one of those crinkley pineapples on it, and pretend I’m diving in Fiji with Mama Bear Pamela I’ll get the creative spark I need. Oh, except I’m not sporty and I don’t like the Beach Boys. . .but pineapples —I like those!

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Some California tourists may get an unexpected surprise when they go whitewater rafting. That’s because the route goes by a nude beach.
The area has gone unexposed for nearly 30 years as nudist hike the steep trail to go to the beach where they can bare it all. The river raft tour is advertised as a family adventure that’s safe for kids as young as five-years-old. Now, the company offers a warning about nudity.
“It’s a float trip, it’s great for young kids,” said Norm Schoenhoff, owner of a river rafting company. “However, there are some folks down there who are sunbathing in the nude.”
Even though public nudity is illegal in the area, police only enforce the law if there is a complaint. So far, state park rangers say they haven’t received any complaints.
The river rafting companies hope people will continue to ride down the river despite the possibility of seeing a little skin.
